  1. In our Lodge the Unit Election team does the call-out ceremony the night of the election. After the call-out the team can then get all the paperwork filled out and it can then be turned in to the Membership committee or the Ordeal Master.
  2. A swiss seat does not end with a square knot, but does end with a water knot.
  3. CNYScouter, I'm not sure where you are but NEPA Council has a course Sept 9, 10, 11 and Oct 1,2,3. Last I heard they had 43 signed up for the course. The max is 48, I think. Our Council has not had to cancel too many courses, but it seems they have their ups and downs. I don't know if people don't want to commit the time or if they have too many commitments already.
  4. Kristi, I would only be guessing, but 1 It is a holdover from older courses. 2 It gives the Medical Officer only one type of medical to deal with, because those of us over 40 must use the Class 3.
  5. Two years ago we didn't have Venturers on the course, but did send down some of our JLT staff for a day, as we were running both courses as weeklong the same week. This year we are going to have a Crew. They will have a Leave no Trace campsite and lead some problem solving. The second of the 2/3day wkends will start on Saturday and run til Monday. So no school will be missed.
  6. The adult application has about six sections to be filled out. Some general info, a section for the committee to fill in,what committees you might be interested in, Special skills or resources you could bring, the camping you have done, and why you feel you will be a positive role model for the youth. The application must be signed by Unit Leader and Committee Chair. Follow the advice given by those above, talk to the SM and Committee.
  7. OGE I have only heard good things about the Rendezvous. But that would be expected from Jeremy and his staff.
  8. OldGreyEagle, I would have liked to been there but will be at our other camp with our JLT staff doing IOL weekend sessions and some staff development. Hope all goes well and there is a good turnout. Let me know how it went.
  9. Try this web site for some information. http://www.macscouter.com/macscouter/WoodBadge/WoodBadgeStuff.html
  10. I just received an e-mail from Jamboreestuff.org. There are no ceramic mugs this year. I guess my wife will be happy that I don't have another to add to my collection.
  11. Eamonn or Bob White, I didn't see any mugs in the catalog. Since I have all the other things I need, do you know if they are going to have mugs this year or have they discontinued them? Thanks
  12. briantshore, Contact your Lodge. For our Lodge all you would have to do is fill out an information form and pay the dues for this year. You can purchase a sash from them. I'm not sure what your trading post requires, ours are all sold through the Lodge, although you can buy other OA stuff in our Council Trading Post without OA id.
  13. In our Council both the trainings are given on one Saturday - Sunday at camp. The BALOO is Saturday until about 4:00, with the WLOT participants staying overnight and that training goes on Saturday night into Sunday afternoon. You can attend either or both.
  14. When my wife was CM, she used the helps to plan the Pack meeting and informed the DLs what they needed to do for the Pack meeting, but left the Den meetings up to the Den Leader. She made available the helps and our Roundtable used them but the DLs used what they wanted to use.
  15. During your election the Scouts should be told "If you are new in the Troop and do not know the candidates well enough to vote wisely, you may abstain by not turning in a ballot at all, and this will not affect the final results." A scout is elected by being on one half the ballots turned in. You must have at least one half your registered active scouts there in order for the election to be held.
  16. CookieScout, Were these true Eagle BOR or "practice" boards at the Troop level? I know in our Council the EBOR is now done on a Council level. Even back when the EBOR was done at the Troop level there had to be a representative from the District on the board.
  17. I'm not sure what the correct policy is but in the Lodge I belong to we conduct a calling out ceremony the night of the election at the Troop meeting. The candidates know who is elected and we hand each one elected the info on all the upcoming Ordeals and get the info the Ordeal Master needs.
  18. Check out this site. http://www.inquiry.net/outdoor/winter/gear/snowshoes/ You can also do a seach for "making snowshoes" to find other sites.
  19. In the Lodge I'm with, the selection committee reviews everyone who is eligible. The only need for a nomination letter would be if the person is not well known to the members and does significantly more outside the Lodge.
  20. Eamonn our Council is much like yours. We have 4 parent/pal total 730, 3 Day Camps total 300, 4 weeks of resident total 300 with about 100 of these being three dayers and 3 or 4 packs included in this number are out of Council . The adventure three day runs Sunday thru Tuesday and week long Sunday thru Friday. Parent/pal also makes a lot of money for our Council so the only change I see coming is less weeks of resident camp and more Par/pals. Can somebody point me to the 1:1 ratio for Resident Camp? I checked the G2SS which mentions this ratio for other camping, but not resident camp. I
  21. I have seen many posters refer to Webelos Resident Camp. Our Council's Cub Camp is open to all Cub Scouts. Does the Council you serve offer Resident Camp for all or just Webelos?
  22. eagle54 I have had Norton for the past two years and haven't had any problems. Does your Norton have a firewall that may be too restrictive? Is this the only site you are having trouble with?
  23. Blaze66 I would follow the advice of ozemu. The best choice, if all else fails, is move. Get the boys to other packs in order to keep them in the program. Anyone reading this thread please heed the other advice given also. It is the best way to keep any organization running strong for a long time.
  24. I would say we have 3 different setups for camping. 1. We do a lot of backpacking camping so there is a minimalist list of things we take on these outings. 2. District events - We take Chuck boxes, free standing stoves, tables, water jugs and a large free standing dinning fly. Everyone has a backpack for personal gear that doesn't go in the tents. 3. Summer Camp - We take our free standing tarp and tables for our parents night, because our campsites don't have these.
  25. scoutldr, Can you tell me where your quote came from? In the OA a person is a youth member until 21 and can be elected by his Troop until he is 21. Owl62 It was founded by two adults and their staff to help those Scouts choosen to set the example in their Troops. That said I don't see why Venturers, with the same or nearly the same qualifications as Boy Scouts shouldn't be allowed to join. The only change to the program would be that the phrase "boy led" would have to be changed, but that is not a bad thing for me.
