  1. I would like to personally thank everyone who has participated in all the discussions in this forum and others. As I sat in Court today reflecting on the three-year journey we have all been through I thought about all of the passion that has been displayed. Regardless of whether I agreed with any opinion it helped to inform my thinking by understanding the views of others, and recognizing the amount of education the TCC needed to undertake. The nine of us on the TCC sought to do what was best for ALL Survivors and be agnostic about the BSA. We recognized that Survivors fell into three camp

  2. First I heard of it also. Was part of BSA PR releases yesterday: https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/the-boy-scouts-of-america-bsa-announces-confirmation-of-plan-of-reorganization-and-emergence-from-chapter-11-bankruptcy-to-equitably-compensate-survivors-while-ensuring-scouting-continues-across-the-country-301802086.html

  5. Happy birthday. Your presence here, your wisdom, knowledge, cool head and steady hand have been a gift to all. I appreciate you. I'm glad you like your present. We searched for a long time and, when we saw it, knew it was the perfect gift. We tried to wrap it but it was just too unwieldy and oddly shaped with lots of pointy edges. 😬

  6. I reckon after blowing some ham-sized holes in the bottom of the Good Ship Lollypop she is rather disinclined to come aboard. Those in the know predict she either significantly cut back the number or let the vessel sink into the muck.

  7. Folks, Dopes anyone know anything about the "special pathway to Eagle Scout for those whose journey was interrupted during their time in Scouting?" I have a Scouter who is a CSA survivor, and quit after being assaulted. He was not involved in the lawsuit as he did not beleive BSA was liable and his assailant has been dead a while now.

  8. The form is, as you have noted, entirely focused on firearm use. It is, however, still required according to the Shooting Sports Manual (Appendix 9, p. 179): So, as I read it, to use private land as an archery range, we have to have our Chief RSO come and inspect it and certify it safe for firearms use. <facepalm> But wait! On the next page, the range for an "Open Shoot" is defined as: Hurray! No approval required! And then in the next Appendix (The Instructional Archery Experience), we're back to having an NRA CRSO inspect our range and make sure it'

  9. Today is my birthday... What a present. While the process was terrible I'm not sure there was a better path to compensate victims. I hope the trust is able to ramp up quickly and find a way to provide some sort of closure to those abused. BSA exits in a much weaker state than it entered. For it to survive, strong leadership and bold action is needed. In the end, I'm glad this forum was a spot where both victims and scouters were able to interact. I hope it helped on various levels. Most of all, I hope child abuser find less and less opportunities to harm children and perhaps

  10. Those insurance companies have a right to not settle and go to trial ... if they choose. From what I understand, the trust would have the right to fund and represent all those covered by the trust. Effectively, trust money could be used to advance the victim's claims.

  11. So, what about the non-settling insurance companies that didn’t agree? How does that get resolved? Is that only upside? That is more money into the trust? Who lays the legal part of getting those to settle?

  13. I appreciate that. When I first walked up to your "campfire," I would not so much have expected to hear this from many of you, three years hence. There is also comfort and appreciation in that. Some have continued to beat us about the head and shoulders, several of you have become friends. I do not regret those first weeks and months, and also learned a great deal from you and saw the compassion and concern ease then flow out of many Scouters here. Nah. Not at all. To paraphrase Mark Twain, you only know if you can trust a man by trusting him. I take your sincerity at face value and t

  14. Yes, I am glad of it. As for survivors, our "moving on" means reprocessing our claims for the Settlement Trustee, undergoing the scrutiny process, arguing our case if need be, and waiting many months or years for the envelope that could be wee Lilliputian size. Don't forget about us. Fortunately, we will have YP representation from tip to tail and a Youth Protection Committee perpetually at the table. There is more than a little solace in that knowledge but recompense is not unimportant to many (most?) of us.
