  1. Well, he made it to Eagle! Had his Eagle Board of Review tonight. I am so proud of him and am very reflective on the journey. It started with him bringing the “flier” home from school as. 1st grader. He is headed of to college in August. I am so incredibly happy that Scouting found us.

  2. He turns 18 in a couple of months. I watched him go up and receive a couple of MB’s that he has earned. The SM asked him to talk about his Eagle Project that he is going to try to get completed over the next two months. He is such a confident and well spoken young man. Scouting had a big part to play in that...leadership roles in the troop (including SPL), weekends camping with his troop, weeks at summer camp, working a summer at summer camp, a trip to the National Jamboree, relationships with his adult leaders. I am positive that these things have been net positives for him in his growth

  3. After logging into Scoutbook this morning; I had to share a screen shot for my personal kids: Even with a 3 year age gap between them, they have both earn the title of Eagle within 7 months of each other. The younger one even finished it during COVID 19.

  4. A Corporate CEO crawls to the throne of Lucifer, in cardiac distress, eyes bugged, nostrils flared, "Master, Master," he wheezes, "The Americans have discovered Baden-Powell's Traditional Scouting!" "Not to worry," replies the Angel of Light, "I'll send two BSA Wood Badgers up to the BPSA-US to organize it."

  5. LOL! This is just about right. I know that to date, the most talked about camp-out in my troop was the canoe trip where we were canoeing in high (but below "Action Stage") waters on a local river. Everything went great until after lunch. Then we came around a bend unusually clumped together and came up on a tree crossing 85% of the river. Three canoes went down, one got stopped on the far side of the river in flooded, but shallow area and 2 of us pull in on the near side of the river. Police and fireman, who happened to be there frantically hunting for 4 boaters reportedly in trouble, en

  6. I know several people that have dual memberships in both organizations. You can actually enroll as a Lone Rover in the BPSA if you want to try it out. That is what I am doing. I have no intention of leaving the BSA just want to see what being a Rover is like.

  7. Why we do this. And not because he got Eagle. Because he's just a great young person being his best self because of scouts.

  9. Of course they should. Scouts should never feel trapped in a unit. However, I think it is a valuable lesson for scouts to learn how to get along with other kids and resolve problems. I would not encourage scouts to unit shop as a way to avoid having to learn those useful skills.

  10. Folks are still learning about COVID-19 because A) it is such a new virus and B) there are legitimate concerns that information about the virus was initially withheld by the CCP. Plus as more research is done, the information changes.

  11. Our camp (Freeland Leslie) is open and we have 25 scouts signed up. They will be kept in groups (cohorts) of 40 and be moved to a new section depending on the day. Limited MBs, no leaving camp site, adults must follow and stay with scouts during the day.

  12. @ALongWalk thanks for posting. Even if you don't consider your son to be a gung ho Scout, or as I joke "A Super Scout", I'm glad he's benefited from his time as a Scout and you and your family can see how it's helped him. Eagle or not, that is our goal.
