  1. I had my ECOH earlier today (right as I got home from staffing a camp, I was and still am tired), and it was a great experience! I thought I didn’t want one at first, but now I realized it would’ve been a mistake if I didn’t. We had a dinner buffet and a cake. I was at camp, so I wasn’t involved in much of the rehearsals or anything but it went pretty good. I was shocked with the town officials coming and everything.

  2. I just got back from a trek run by the summer camp we were at. It wasn't so much cooking our food (more like rehydrating) but it was a challenge that we all shared. In that respect it was similar to patrol cooking. Selling this idea of shared challenge seems to be harder now than years past. The response from the scouts was great, though. This was one of the best trips I've been on as the mix of scouts was about as ideal as one could hope for. Everyone was positive even though there was some suffering. (We even got a few frost points!) The teamwork was incredible and so the leadership req

  3. We just returned from Freeland Leslie, a Patrol cooking camp. 51 scouts, 6 patrols, 23 first time summer campers. Only 5 adults present all week with 1 - 2 other adults rotating in to provide a bit more coverage. Adults stayed out of the patrol areas except to eat, check food safety in 1 instance and address a couple of breakdowns that escalated beyond SPLs ability. Our PLs, SPL and ASPL were busy all week. Nearly every PL had at least one moment where they had some sort of breakdown. One quit for a meal after dealing with patrol members that didn’t pull their wait. One designated

  4. Anyone else at the Pinewood Derby World Championship in NYC today? My son qualified and we went for the first time. It was a fun but long day. Lots of waiting in long lines. No trophies for him or our other Pack scouts, but we celebrated with some really expensive ice cream cones in Times Square. I was honestly kind of surprised at how so many parents and scouts arrive with huge toolboxes of gear, extra parts, tools, etc. We had a backpack with a derby car wrapped in a rag. But then I felt like a real amateur when my son's car failed inspection (rule difference between pack/distri

  6. Bottle that feeling up.and save it for the next scout who you overhear saying he doesn't want a big ceremony! After you rested up, give your mom a big hug! And let her know that a bunch of strangers on the internet think she done good!

  9. Interesting that the question is what do we give versus what information is available. For our troop on the troop website there are links to all the needed detail. If a Scout needs or wants some detail, it is there. At camp we have an information board with camp map, the schedule the scout signed up for, troop activities, the overall camp schedule etc etc etc. If a Scout has a question, we say "check the board"
