I’m not aware if some of you know this so I’ll put it out there.

Office supply stores such as Staples will bind (with plastic spiral) your scoutbook for cheap, and it’ll hold really well. I had mine done a few years ago and stays great.

I think it happens to every scout... I always keep mine with a cover on and it still fell apart.

My scoutmaster always said if your scout book did not fall apart you were not reading it enough.

My son's handbook had one of the covers on it, but by the end of 7 years it was still a sheaf of mostly loose water-stained pages kept in a plastic ziploc bag.

 

1/2 of my book went for a swim on a canoe trip. Thankfully I had the 1/2 with my advancement records, and I made a copy of those "just in case." Turned out I needed those copies.

My old scout book might have had a bent corner or 2 but basically it was a fresh and clean, rarely cracked open...door stop or bookshelf end. My Field Guide was another matter. I think I had three copies before I was 15. I read and reread it at various stages of my scouting experience. Still have the last one I bought but it needs some serious help.

mine was held together with tape.
