  1. Put our council in the column marked 'Have to purchase full cases' We had some popcorn from last year that we had to throw out last month. We couldn't sell it. Oh well, what to do. Carol
  2. I do wish you good luck jethro. I think what you are doing is the right thing. It has worked with my Bears (we've been together since Tigers). I have always held 3 weekly den meetings and the pack meeting. So Monday's are Scout night for us. If there is a 5th Monday sometimes we go ahead and have a meeting sometimes not. Just depends. It keeps the boys more involved if you ask me. Carol
  3. Did the CM tell you he was doing this on his own, in other words you and others were not invited? Did he think that you as CC would notify the other parents? Do you know for a fact that other parents did not know about this? I think that his uniform was appropriate if he were there with just his son or a whole pack of boys as long as he was a registered leader and was there with at least one boy. Back in the spring we sold candy bars as a fundraiser. We called the other leaders to inform their dens that we would all get together at the only grocery store here in town on a certain day
  4. This is only my $.02 but here goes (BTW I have no real experience with home schoolers so BEAR with me). I would combine them if at all possible. The home schooled children need all the interactment they can get. It would be a great learning opportunity for all the boys and parents. The home schooled kids shouldn't have a problem changing their meeting times to meet with the public kids since they don't have the time restraints. Make sure all den leaders are aware of the various advancements and awards that are out there to be earned. Sometimes den leaders focus on the rank and don'
  5. Hey Kenk, can you not PM Bobwhite? Yes I am sure he could point you in the right direction.
  6. Although I can not say with 100% authority, my bet would be that No, that would not qualify. Common sense being my guide. If I'm not mistaken, the outdoor activity could be almost anything, as long as he is with his family. Have they gone to a school game? Picnic? Parade? Beach outing? You get my point. Why try to 'stretch' the rules when there are many oppertunities to be with his family, even if they are not as exciting as balloon races? Just my humble $0.02. Carol
  7. If a boy can't go 15 minutes into a meeting without saying 'I gotta go pee'... then he might be a Cub Scout. Carol
  8. I don't know about other states, but here in Texas we (Cub Scouts, not Tigers though) can earn the Texas badge. Just need to know some very basic history and state symbols, and a few other requirements. My Wolves earned it last year. Don't know where to find out about your own state. Carol
  9. I agree with Scoutnut. You don't have to wait for parents to sign off on everything. You are Akela too. We practiced the requirements at every meeting as well. You should know which of your Tigers has completed the requirements. I do believe in sticking to your guns though. Good luck. Carol
  10. My advise, Keep It Simple, Make It Fun!!! Welcome and good luck! Carol
  11. Just say no. Concentrate on your Tiger Cub and assist with the Troop as needed. Let someone else handle UC, I'm sure there is someone that doesn't have one so young. Enjoy Tiger's!! Carol
  12. Sorry, I'm computer illiterate, but welcome to the campfire. Carol
  13. Thank you Kahuna, you took the words right out of my mouth. The Louisiana gov. should be feeling mighty guilty right now along with the mayor. Carol
  14. This is just my personal opinion but if he were new to scouting I would put him in with his grade if his parents did not object. These are the same boys he will be seeing everyday. But I repeat, this is JMHO. Carol
  15. I agree that not everyone should get something. JMHO. I believe that the winners should be acknowledged and everyone else congratulated on doing their best. My son raced a car at the council level and didn't win. He was disappointed at first until we stopped at Burger King for lunch. Carol
  16. We got ours in yesterday or the day before. We live in Northwest Texas. Carol
  17. Count me in on the once a week meeting group (except for the week with pack meeting)! I had one in July (100% attendance)and one in August (90% attendance). BTW we are Bears. I have a good repoire with all of my parents, of course, I only have 6 boys in my den but it works like a dream. I have 2 assistants and we have just as much fun as the boys. In fact at last night's meeting we were playing balloon games and I thought my mom (one of my assistants) was going to pee her pants because she got to laughing so hard watching the boys. What's not to love with this thing they call
  18. Great reminder. Now excuse me while I go get a cup of coffee. Sniff, sniff. Carol
  19. BTW, the DE that Fred is referring to does not live in our town. This is a big headache, we had planned a fishing derby for the kids while the parents were signing them up, you know, keep the kids active, keep the parents happy. Our District wanted dates of recruitment nights so instead of calling or emailing my husband about our own plans she went ahead and scheduled this on her own. Ack!! Now what do we do? No one could get free tonight from our pack so there will be no local representation there. *pulling my hair out* Do we go ahead and schedule our own recruitment night as we had pla
  20. My husband and I want to try this at our next roundtable meeting. Sounds like a great exercise. You can never be too prepared. Carol
  21. Games, games, games. My husband, our CM, started incorporating games into our pack meetings last year. It was an instant HIT!! We try to come up with games that fit the theme of the month. Some months we do 1 sometimes 2. They are simple but fun. One of our biggest hits was we made foam blocks, glued on pics of the rank badges and had the boys play "Cub Scout Yahtzee". For the theme of water ways we made fishing poles and magnets. We played a game where boys had to roll up newspapers and throw them at the target (the theme was Get the word out). I could go on and on but I bet you get
  22. Here is my opinion, take it or leave it, I don't think you need her in your unit if she is going to act like that. We know as adults that we have a responsibility to keep track of the money that our boys bring in on things like this and that if we don't we will have to pay out of our own pocket. If she did not want to take all responsibility than she should not have signed him up under her name. Now she is acting like a child who doesn't get their way. Now get out there and find you another leader, I'm sure you can do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  23. Ditto with nldscout. We have a goal to beat last year and if we do we get a slighter bigger 'cut'. Carol
  24. What has this topic have to do with being a Christian? As Christians we are taught to obey the law. The definition of illegal... adjective 1. against law: contravening a specific law, especially a criminal law 2. against rules: not allowed by the rules of something such as a game Carol
