    Advancement is so focused by National, that quality of instruction has dropped. National actually praised a council giving  over 10,000 in their online MBUs. How can anyone learn in an online class of a 100? Heck I had scouts tuning out when my Troop was doing that for meetings.

    Most charge $25/MB so that would be $250000 in revenue....Criminal

    GTA 7.0.4.7 certainly applies to every one of these MBs.

  2. Girls account for 15% of all youth which is up from 9% 2 years ago.  This could mean more boys left the program.

    Total membership is still down 13% from 2 years ago

    So adding girls would appear to have kept membership from being a worst disaster.

    Two observations I have heard are the blanket extension was solely for the purpose of Eagle Scout and not fair to the boys and every picture you see of a girl Eagle Scout has a full sash of MBs making some wonder what else the girl was doing other than scouts.  A full sash would mean a MB every 2 weeks.

  3. Unfortunately the politics won on establishing this MB as an Eagle required vice adding a section to each rank requirement.  My guess that if it wasn't Eagle Required it would fall behind Bugling in popularity.  These requirements should be taught by the scout's parents/guardians.   My friend did a session and the  feedback from the scouts was "this stuff is so obvious to us"  This tells me his program is working.

  4. This is from the USCCB website:

    Our mission is to support the ministry of bishops with an emphasis on evangelization, by which the bishops exercise in a communal and collegial manner certain pastoral functions entrusted to them by the Lord Jesus of sanctifying, teaching, and governing (see Lumen gentium, no. 21).

    Our purposes under civil law are:

    • to unify, coordinate, encourage, promote and carry on Catholic activities in the United States;
    • to organize and conduct religious, charitable and social welfare work at home and abroad;
    • to aid in education;
    • to care for immigrants;
    • and generally to enter into and promote by education, publication and direction the objects of its being.
  5. My guess is that if the USSCB could/wanted to eliminate Catholic scouting they would have done so already but I believe the Catholic Church supports scouting even if a few dioceses and other individual Pastors do not.   Not all Catholic. Churches have the wherewithal to have scouting or even youth groups due to their size and volunteer populations.

  6. @5thGenTexan  Probably right.   My thought is that a church that leaves the UMC probably would not have entered any agreement option.

    Wonder how this is all playing out with the units since it all has to be done by 12/31.

     How many have the FUA and new chartered partners

    will have FUA and the councils sponsor

    just totally get away from any relationship from the UMC and get sponsored by a completely different organization

    or fold as it's all too hard.

  7. @5thGenTexan  Not sure.  Pardon me if this is too much of a generalization but the Churches wanting to leave the big UMC want to because of their stance on LGBTQ .    These churches may have the same opinion of the BSA because of their policy on the same issue and probably not sponsor anyway.   The others who don't separate have their guidance from the church and it is not likely to change.

    JMHO.

  8. I suppose they "could" but if that was the case, hopefully the NCCS would have said so.

    I asked why the Catholics are not being as draconian as the UMC....the response was "Because we are not Methodists"  😁
