  1. @ShadyRhoads

    Past few years???

Who is telling you what?   I don't know what you have done, but whatever the council camp you went to should have records of the classes etc and the Camp Director should be able to resolve this.

  2. This "Scouts is cheaper than X"  is an old and tired argument.   I have never had any parent say "we are going to join scouts because it's cheaper"   If that was the case the membership would not be down 50%.  The parents want to sign up their son/daughter and continue to renew for years because of what the program offers their kids for their future in instilling Character, Values and Ethics and have some adventures while doing so.

Kids are in sports x/y/z, quiz bowls and their other church youth groups because they want to.  Remember they also have school work which comes first.  You have to be flexible in meeting their needs.  There isn't one unit in the country that has 100% attendance at every meeting or outdoor activity.

I have heard some walk away from signing their kids up when they are presented the additional $25 fee.    Another great marketing strategy to increase membership!

    JMHO.  Mileage may vary.

  3. The 8/26 document is much more specific than the 1 July one with more specific actions by the UMC/BSA/LC/Unit.

It was thought (maybe wished) that the latest agreement which both parties went back in session to discuss would have an option for the status quo for units but that is not in the 8/26 document.  The fact that the LC picks the unit leadership and provides the LC EIN to set up a bank account really means they are the sponsor.

The UMC side has words like "generally" and "reasonably" support no "will".

  4. My friend's troop goes to Camp Rodney.  He tells me they offer 3 ways to feed based on where your site is.

    Dining Hall

Heaterstack where they bring the food out to the site and the troop serves it and cleans up

Patrol Cooking where you are on your own to feed your unit - there is a reduced cost per scout for this option

  5. @gpurlee

Your speculation on a revised traditional model is interesting.    Pay more (at some who knows what cost) and all is well!    Isn't the basic premise of the UMC that they didn't want to sponsor any longer because of liability?   this one is what I said before about jerking around units and scouts and getting them all spun up?

Councils are chartered by National so they can pull the council's charter just like a council can pull a units charter so they have leverage.

We will see what they come up with.   The information flow is crickets sounding.

  6. @gpurlee  Interesting wording  "may lead to modifications to the proposed affiliation agreement"    I still read this as the UMC won't be sponsoring units???  Also did anyone pick up on the BSA Tasks forceS.  Wonder how many there were/are?

@yknot  You are probably right although the extension is also likely because the UMC and BSA put something out without fully vetting it.   Wonder how many UMC scouts they estimate dropping?

  7. @gpurlee  so your council sends out a letter saying units can stay with their current CO,  then they send a letter saying never mind that, and now they're saying in a 3rd communication that you can??

ask if there is an option to transfer to another council!

@Eagle1993  maybe the units should ask the SE the same questions if they are sponsors by him.   The answer is likely not none, it's we send you a bill.
