  1. Platypi work well as secondary water bladders. I've never had one leak. But they are unwieldy and easy to spill. I only use them to refill my primary water container.
  2. It's not that he himself is a fake, it's the silly stuff he did on his show. If I were him, I'd lay awake every night worried that someone would believe my "techniques" like running straight down a mountain or swimming under a logjam were good ideas in a real survival situation and get themselves killed in a very unhappy way.
  3. Do not use Harbor Freight welding gloves, they will fail on you.
  4. 1-1 1/2 lbs. ground beef 1 cup chopped onion 2 cups frozen mixed vegetables, thawed 1 6 oz. can tomato paste 1 cup beef broth 2 tsp sugar 1/4 tsp salt 1/4 tsp black pepper 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley or 1 Tblsp dried 1 2 lb. package refrigerated prepared mashed potatoes 1/3 cup chopped green onions 1 cup grated cheddar cheese Lightly oil or spray a 12 inch dutch oven. Saute ground beef and onion over a full compliment of coals until browned; drain. Fight with your SPL about adding the vegetables. Add vegetables, tomato paste, beef brot
  5. Always overplan this meal. Everyone eats more of these than they would expect. Hoagie rolls or similar Pizza sauce (If you want to make your own: 6 oz. tomato paste, 6 oz. water, 2 tsp. Italian seasoning, 1 tsp. basil) Mozzarella cheese Whatever you want on top (precooked) These are just like hobo/tin foil dinners. Make a pizza boat and wrap it with aluminium foil. One layer is enough but make sure it's sealed. Make a bed of coals, preferably from hardwood. Any coals that are still flaming are too hot and will burn the bread. Bake about ten minutes, flipping when ha

  8. This isn't much of a recipe but my troop loves it. Boiling water Oatmeal packet (any brand but not steel cut) Spoon Glove or sock (preferably clean) Carefully open the top of the oatmeal packet. Holding the packet in your gloved hand, add a little boiling water and stir. The paper is waxed and will not disintegrate. When you're done, the only thing that you have to clean is the spoon.
  9. I talk to our UC/ADC fairly frequently. He was at our last CoH a few months ago. I've just never seen nor heard of this form. Maybe he copies what he needs off the JTE worksheet. The email was a generic message from my council, so I think it went out to thousands of people.
  10. @ZScout5 @an_old_DC They're asking us (the Unit Key 3) to fill it out and send it in. We're supposed to receive a visit in a few months.
  11. If I understand everything correctly, it follows this format. Correct? [number] YPT Current [number] YPT Expired [number] YPT Never Taken [date] Training Data As Of [number] Leaders Not Trained [number] Leaders Trained [array] Leaders Not Trained List [array] YPT Status List [number] Youth Registered in Unit [number] Adults Registered in Unit
  12. Yesterday, I received a generic email from my council commissioner informing me that "Starting this year, National is requiring detailed assessments to be completed for all units." He included the form but there aren't really instructions on how to fill it out. Some of the questions are a little vague, particularly Section 2. Has anyone filled one of these out before? Link to form: https://filestore.scouting.org/filestore/commissioner/pdf/Troop_Detailed_Assessment.pdf
  13. To be fair, Luke is holding a lightsaber in his hands when he asks an unarmed Obi-Wan, "How did my father die?" How would you have responded in that moment? Hopefully not "I chopped off his legs and an arm, then left him to burn to death next to a river of lava."
  14. #1. No. The LDS Church doesn't really operate as separate, individual congregations with affiliations to each other. It's a top-down, unified organization with fairly standardized programs. That being said, if members of a ward (congregation) want to organize their own troop, they would probably be allowed to use a church building for their meetings. The ward itself would not be the CO. #2. Yes. The majority are LDS, but it's pretty common to have a boy or two that's not. Usually, they came to the troop as a friend of an existing member. Non-member adult leaders aren't uncommon, either. O
  15. The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. Without a moral compass, we're just the nation's largest camping club.
  16. I'll take the fifth item from your search results. https://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/2017/06/23/Same-sex-marriage-rate-lower-than-rate-for-straight-couples-poll-shows/8651498232582/
  17. By taking that position, BSA would be tacitly supporting the belief that truth is relative. It's a slippery slope...
  18. I'm still waiting for a chapter in Driver's Ed. textbooks about how to not drive like a jerk.
  19. Wish I had a picture of my baked ziti. I’ve been thinking of asking the moderators for a Chow sub-forum under Camping & High Adventure where we can share recipes that have worked well for us. Each recipe should probably be its own thread. @RememberSchiff @John-in-KC
  20. That's exactly what I thought when I read @The Latin Scot's comment. If men actually did carry purses, I wouldn't be surprised if more than a few wore web gear or load bearing harnesses.
  21. From the original post, I understood that the OP's son has been in this troop for two years. If that's not the case, I would immediately look for another troop. This isn't how a scouting unit should operate. Even if you've been in the troop for two years, this is abnormal behavior. Could it be a new committee chair drunk on power and needing to learn the definition of defenestration?
  22. This is a good method for making changes, but it doesn't work as well for undoing them. Without knowing what Irving intends to do, I have no way of knowing which issue to write about until the decision has already been made.
  23. Did more people get sucked up in winning or angry when others wouldn’t cooperate?
