  1. You can turn in unused patches that are sold via the Scout Store back to the Scout Store. They will issue you a credit on a gift card. I turned in $300 worth. I heard later there was a lady who came in and turned in $800. I did it after being a CM for 4 years. I had a lot of patches...
  2. Did you know that in Webelos that it's the Webelos DL that signs off on the book...Not the parents.
  3. I would have a problem with it. He's scoping out targets while having a meal. Getting close to his next victim.
  4. Instead of jumping, does this DL want to step down? Maybe it's burnout? Do you want to step-up? What do the other parents say? Have you asked this question?
  5. I suspect that you will not pass the background check.
  6. Get rid of the SM. Find an SM. Find the Advancement Chair to review all advancements. Get the PLC to ILST. Get the Troop Committee to Troop Committee Training via in-person NOT Online. Get the ASM/SM to their Training. If you feel like you have been harrassed, take action. You let a lot slide and now your asking us what to do? You know what you need to do.
  7. LNT is still around. However, the patches are not available anymore. The whole Cubscout Program will be changing in 2015. I like the OE requirements. You will see that LNT is still needed. Which, they are just incorporated into them. What lawsuit are you talking about?
  8. What SSScout said. Get to all the in-person trainings you can. Find and go to the U of Scouting in your area. Take the Den Leaders and Pack Committee with you as well. The more you understand the program the better. What you might not know is Cubscout is changing in 2015. All new books and no Beltloop program. So, understanding the program is a must. Take BALOO, OWLS and then think about Wood Badge. (Someone was going to say Wood Badge sooner or later). Get the Journey to Excellence Pack Score Card and start looking at what your weakness is. Go to Roundtable. Look at the Pack Calendar, District & Council Calendar. Plan what you want to do now. If the old CM has files of his planning, get those. Also, talk to the Order of the Arrow..ask about their Crossovers. Plan those.
  9. As to the CSP's...if you want to wear them. Wear them. I have the 2010 100th Anniversary CSP on my Cubsmaster Uniform. On my District Uniform I have a FOS CSP. For the Troop one that I am getting, it will have the normal CSP.
  10. Sorry. It's 10.5 with AOL. 11 without. It will mess-up the Council records when he goes for Eagle. He has to wait if he's 10 at Crossover.
  11. Inform the parents of the Pack with what you have discovered.
  12. Time to come clean with this Dad like SM Bob and King Ding Dong say. Tell the Dad what your telling us.
  13. Good point there! I too was knee deep into being the Tiger Den Leader when I realized there was a pattern and a method to it all. The Tigers survived and I worked the program. Yes, I did end up as the Cub Master. It is a shame when people do not convey the info correctly. I would urge you to go to in-person training than the online. You will get more out of it. Plus make connections to others that you can reachout for support for. Oh, and as for the Knots. Go for it. I read the requirements for the Tiger DL Knot, Cub Master and others and made me realize that there were things/requirements for me to go do. It ended up for the 5 years I was in the Pack that we got the Summertime Pack Award, Boys got the CS Outdoor Award and Quality Unit two times and Journey to Excellence Gold with Boyslife two times. So, the Tiger Den Leader, Cub Master knot and Cubscouter Knot actually got a lot more fun and programming at the Den/Pack level. Which, if you put in my Wood Badge beads (A ticket item), we got the 2010 Anniversary Ribbons done and our local Council's 100th Anniversary CSP completed. Which included Leave No Trace Award and so much more. So, Knots are cool!
  14. Go to the District Commissioner and District Exec. If the CO/COR is not following the rules of the BSA to be Chartered, then they should not be Chartered by the BSA. Time to transfer to another Troop or find a CO that will take you on as a Troop. Basically, it sounds like you have a Parents of Troop XXX or Friends of XXX as a Charter Org. Time to leave.
  15. Yes, you have to be registered for the position for the Knot your going for at that time. So, if you did Den Leader for one year and then registered as Cub Master for two, you cannot claim Den Leader. If you were the Tiger Den Leader for that one year, then you can for that year. However, you have one more year as Cub Master to earn that Knot. You cannot be registered in two positions at once, unless your the Charter Org Rep. Then you can be that and a Committee Member. And no, just by handing on paperwork to the DE and have the Council Registar manually doing it, won't do it either. It still all goes into Scoutnet. You can be registered for multiple positions if your in other Scout Units or at the District/Council level. Such as: District Committee Member, Roundtable Commissioner, Unit Commissioner and Troop Comittee Member. Which, I am. As to registering as Ast Den Leader. Everyone is a Den Leader. There should not be an Ast DL. You are not there as the DL's assistant. Your there as a DL. Also, as it was also said. Two Den Meetings, a Go-See-It and a Pack Meeting...Pretty easy if you make it fun. You could even have a Den Meeting that is rolled into a Go-See-It (which it really is) and Den Meeting and Pack Meeting. Now, if the Den LeadKnot thing does not work out for you...there is always the Scouter Training Award. http://www.scouting.org/filestore/training/pdf/511-057_WB.pdf Again, you can only use the years for one award. No double dipping.
  16. If you look at the wording of the application, it states : "Be a currently registered Cubmaster, Scoutmaster, Coach, or Advisor who has served in that position at least 18 continuous months." http://www.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/512-003_WB.pdf So, no it's not open for Ast Scoutmasters.
  17. I am doing this with my Ham Radios. Setting them all up and will be getting them on the air. Explaining how people communicate. I have done this in the past when a Tiger misses the outing. Very easy.
  18. Your still teaching Leave No Trace. http://www.scouting.org/Home/OutdoorProgram/OutdoorEthics/Awards/CubScout.aspx
  19. I love the Bobcat Breakfast idea. You could spin that so many ways.
  20. The Cub Scout Packs only really advance in rank once a year. Twice if they are new and get the Bobcat. Checking in on Advancement is key to make sure that a Pack is actually putting on a program. You can check the roster and see how many Tigers they have. For example, let's say 10. In Oct you see 10 Bobcats. In May/April you see 6 Tiger Ranks and June you see 2 Tiger Ranks. 6+2=8. What happened to the 2? Did they drop, did they stop coming? Same for Webelos Badge. You had 10 Bears and only 6 Webelos I (the next year) get Rank. Then Arrow of Light is 4. Something would be happening in the Pack that isn't helping with retention. As for the Pack's actually getting the info into Council outside of filling in a sheet at the Council Shop...that's the easy part. Getting them to using Internet Advancement is another. Even if they use Packmaster or some other software, it's hard. If you push IA, then it will be easier to load in the data and also it's easier for Re-Charter and when the new scouts/adults show up. Since your job as District Advancment Chair is really geared towards Boy Scouts and Eagles...I would see if there is a co-chair who is plugged into the Cubscout side who might want to help you on this. Unless you really want to dive into it. This really could be the CS Roundtable Commissioner.
  21. Here is my take. You know the financial hardships. Yes, the Pack covered the Book,Slide, Necker and registration. Fine. That sounds like the Scout was covered. You do that because of the Financial Hardship. You also allow this because he is giving his time to the Pack. That's covered. Money owed. Sorry. Time to man up and go get it. You know his track record and you allow it. You have lent him money and sold him items. I suspect you will never see the $200 so the Pack could just write it off. Going forward. Tell this Parent/Den Leader/Friend that in no certain terms that he is allowed to work with money for the Pack. If that means that his Scout goes with someone else to collect money or man tables...so be it. This person cannot be trusted with Money. You have a deadbeat for a Den Leader/Friend. Cut him off. If your the CC it's your job to deal with it. If not, engage the COR.
  22. This unit is dead. The two people who run this are in it for themselves. Are they married? I would not waste anytime with this unit any longer. Transfer out to another Pack and inform your DE and other parents. Cut your losses now.
  23. While other Den Leaders would help greatly. I would grab the parents and have them help as well. Do not let them sit on the sidelines surfing their smartphones.
