Just for the record, bnnykllr is short for something other than bunny killer, right?

You will forgive me if I ask the source of your facts, trust but verify

Good post Novice, or Mr Cubmaster whichever you prefer. The problem is, that some people will continue to deny that governmental units should not be chartering Boy Scout units as your thoughts have been explained multiple times before by multiple people but some cant accept reality.

I don't know who might have access to BSA statistics so I will just ask this generally. Does anyone know how many scouts/scouters died while on an event in 2004? 2003? is this data available? I will go out on a limb and say that if this data was found, and the final totals of 2005 added in, I don't think you would see a huge spike. The Jamboree accident was horrible, had it not happened, the heart attack victim would be a side note to a great, if not hot time. I mean no disrespect to the victim. Because of the deaths, everything that followed was under a microscope and anything untoward made national news. Then the lost boy scouts, the lightning strikes made national news and we look just awful. I reiterate, I dont think the "death" toll of scouting will end up being much different in 2005 than 2004.

Gimme a stick of Beeman's FS, you are a Mad Mad Mad Mad guy

So, FScouter, you fishing for something here? I'll raise to the bait, even though it may be opening another can of, well, worms. If you are casting out for input, I can see you get some trolling in, then again you could just be keeping it Reel (This message has been edited by a staff member.)

Rooster, I was not aware "Thou Shalt Not Kill" was mis-translated and its supposed to read "Thou shall not murder" You are right, that is a different situation entirely. But it does give one pause to wonder what other biblical "truths" our society honors that are mis-translated. It also makes me wonder what we are doing talking old testament anyway as you have said that the new testament wiped out the old testament or least thats what I understood you to say

How morally straight are a bunch of rabble who may be defined as the "lunatic fringe" who advocate the disposition of the current goverment to be replaced by one that is radical and never has been tried? A scout is loyal, John Adams was distinctly not loyal to his King nor was be respectful to the lawfull authority governing Boston

I think Wrangler Jane (melody patterson) may have helped my consolidation on heterosexuality. Dobbs, the bugler showed up a lot, most notably as Michael J Fox's dad in Teen Wolf. Corporal Agarn and Sgt O'Rourke really had something going with the Heckawhi (sp?) indians. Edward Everett Horton played a great Mediciane man as Roar Chicken 200 bonus points for Edward Everett Horton's role in another "hit" 60's show

JD, its not a question of whether or not the BSA can exclude gays and Atheists its whether or not a governmental unit can sponsor a BSA unit. Of course an Elvis club can restrict its membership only to Elvis (he was the King you know) Fans, but if the Elvis club was owned and operated by the local township which spent tax money on the adoration of Elvis and did not allow Buddy Holly fans to participate, or Jiles Perry Richardson fans to sock hop to tax payor paid for music, food and drinks, then there would be a problem. Its not about a privaate club's access to public facilities, its having the public facility own and operate a private club. A small distinction, but very important

FUnny, I thought it read "Thou Shalt not Kill" Not "Thou Shalt not Kill unless you have a really good reason like the person is a convicted murderer"
-
You could add George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, oh heck all of the continental congress and signers of the Declaration of Independence as well.

A great woman I know often says "Merit badges are NOT created Equal". The closer a merit badge approximates school work, the less a scout will like it. This theory would explain why Citizen in the Nation, Personal Fitness (its not the activity, its the record keeping/book work) and Communications are so "hard" to complete amoung others. Reading is just to much like school work to many, and more is the pity. You havent lived until you see the English countryisde through Thomas Hardy's eyes or viewed a landscape as described by James Fenimore Cooper, Sat in an apple barrel with young Jim Hawkins or raced across the Transylvanian wilderness on horseback with Jonathon Harker. Just remember, its a sin to kill to mockingbird

The decision to fire someone, especially someone like St.Jean, I am sure, is not easy. Something like this is not an individual decision, but a group effort. How/Why Smith got the short straw to tell St. Jean I have no idea, but did the BSA know that Smith was a kiddie-porn user when it sent him off to fire St Jean? I agree the irony is tremoundous, but I dont think it reflects poorly on the BSA. John Wayne Gacy worked part-time as a clown and had a photo taken with then first lady Rosalyn Carter. Does that make Mrs. Carter complicit in Gacy's sex crimes? All I have read, and would welcome additional information, is that Smith's porn was on a home computer and no one at the BSA office had any inkling about Smith's Kiddie-porn. After the scandal broke, Smith left and retired. Now, I am not at all familiar with the StJean case at all. But from what has been presented, I have to ask a few questions, mostly rhetorical in nature, I am not sure they can be answered. When St Jean was fired, was he offered the chance to resign and the offer rebuffed? How would we know? next, while I have never been to Seabase, I have an idea of where it is. I also know where Key West is. If St.Jean works for a company that has a "no avowed gays", why is he at a known seabase "port of call" in a gay resort? Didnt he think he might be spotted? Does this show rational judgement? I have never heard of StJean before this, and have no animosity towards him, but what was thinking? As Bob WHites points out you can be gay in boy scouts, just not avowed, Statistics would indicate that there may be some gay Council executives but I doubt they frequent the Blue Oyster Bar. The funny thing about firings is the employer is bound by law not to disclose certain information, no matter how badly we want it.

I am a bit surprised I got here before Merlyn, but the BSA has said it would not recharter any units chartered to governmental units. The topic has been discussed here and there in this forum. I am a little surprised your DE seems surprised as the BSA intentions not to renew governmental units charters has been announced for some time. And now, to point out my errors and fill in the rest, I introduce Merlyn LeRoy

I have some comments to make on the previous three posts, first off, greenSM welcome to the forums. You may NOT realize it but YOU do have a style that is very SIMILAR to another poster, jkhny. In FACT the styles are SO similar as to make one wonder if you two guys ARE related to each other. Look up some of jkhny's posts and YOU will see what I mean. next, BobWhite, Bob, Bob, Bob, Bob you were doing fine until the sentence "If you don't understand the small stuff how will the big stuff make any sense?" its that sort of comment that gets people angry. You had made your point and this added boost is what inflames people and finally Ed, you again show the form, style and panache that make you the ultimate basshole. -
The ASM is providing a great service for your troop. I hope the scouts appreciate it. As there is no time limit on merit badges, the scout has til his 18th birthday to finish them. I think its nice for the troop to keep up on the incompletes, but in no way is required to.
