  1. We are being a little coy with you. The reason is no boy will be denied the benefits of scouting because he does not have or cannot afford a uniform. Review the methods of scouting. Notice they are not required, such as advancement is not required.
  2. Thanks we lost our web II leader and no one will step up.
  3. Uniforms are just a method in scouting. There is NO REQUIREMENT to wear a uniform. EVER. The scout just needs to cover his heart and not salute. This is all rather interesting give LDS has a reputation of being very lax with requirements. Again not meant to be a knock.
  4. On the belt loop technically you are correct. However Webelos is different in that parent signature is not sufficient. Since this is a requirement for the badge he should show his work to a leader. In my opinion. Regarding the lawn. Make a chart showing he did mow twice. Ask your dictator to show you in writing where the chore has to be done daily. With that said, realize that Webelos is training for Boy Scouts. Unless to take your son to Merit Badge Mills, this is just a taste of the documentation and proof he will need to show to a counselor.
  5. BD, don't give me any ideas. That youthful, evil practical joker blood still runs through my veins. I have suppressed it very well over the past dozen years or so.
  6. Why can't I count my two summer camps towards the Camping MB?
  7. The problem isn't YOUR computer. I am sure you can find someone to blame it on Obama.
  8. You must shave on campouts. I am beginning to think that is what's wrong with my collar. That or just inconsistencies in the scout slave labor in China.
  9. My kids hate it when I read to them, much less try to sing. We did some songs this year but it was really just to check off electives. I love how the book assumes you know the "tune" they are sung to. Even some mp3s of the songs would be nice. BS leader training was full of songs, but they were the follow along, do as I say songs. Those work better with boys. You know flap your arms shake your foot hokey pokey type.
  10. To BSA National for how they have handled membership policy.
  11. My fix is to have a Raingutter regatta in August and hopefully a space derby as well, just not sure when. Takes some of the pressure off the Derby. The problem with your solution is it takes away from the, admittedly few, scouts that really put in the time and hone their skills. I have been pushing as well for more emphasis on other categories other than winning. One can't escape the side benefit that it does emotionally invest the fathers in the Pack.
  12. While the vote was the “catalyst,†it wasn’t the only issue, he said. Rather, it was the Boy Scouts’ direction and the desire to keep the church from getting caught up in it, he said. “We want everyone, including ourselves, to live by biblical standards,†Hester said. The way I read that is. "The BSA was not Christian enough for us and would not let us take them over, they are heritics"
  13. I don't know BD, you and me gotta sleep sometime. The woods are deep. Been there.
  14. BD, we have Dads that work for Boeing. Don't think some of these cars don't get wind tunnel tested.
  15. That is a very good question.. As has been stated in another thread there are married couples in Venturing. With the new policy what does the BSA have to say about BS dating ? If they are are they allowed to hold hands? Kiss? Show any affection ? Is a kiss considered sexual behavior? This may be a rare occurrence but it will arise. I am all for the policy change but it does open up a whole host of issues that have not been addressed before at least at the BS level. I guarantee you these kind of issues are what we are going to be debating over the next year.
  16. Nice dedkad. Our council is so backward mom and dad can't sleep in the same tent at a cub campout on council property. Still stuck in 1950's Ricky and Lucy Show with twin beds. One of Scoutings "Timeless Values" is mom and dad sleeping in separate rooms. As a Recovering Catholic that is one thing I miss. The church basement hallway filled with 15 empty half barrels.
  17. If I like something, I want to share it with others. Why wouldn't this apply to religion as well? The problem with almost all religions is they "know" they are right and everyone else has it "wrong". They are superior because they believe in the one "true" religion. If you are one that believes only people who subscribe to your religious viewpoints and dogma will go to Heaven, I hope you are right because I really don't want to be there with you for eternity.
  18. BSA is faith based, this group is Christian based. In this country faith is just code for Christian.
  19. Skits can work if the den practices a few times. The point is getting the boys up in front of a crowd. Magic shows are great. There is a Cub Scout magic book I got used on amazon for about $5. Can be a simple as tying a knot in a rope by crossing your arms and grabbing the ends. The songs that get the whole pack involved are the best. The BSA needs to put more videos online of stuff like this instead of charging for CDs and DVDs.
  20. Not meant to be a knock against LDS Packs, but I thought your leaders were assigned by a church official. You should not have wolfs and bears in the same den meeting, they are working on different stuff. You need another den leader. Keep in mind that very few of the requirements need to be done with the den. I know the Wolf book states most of them are to be done with the family or by the cub himself.
