Why Wood Badge?

Do you have to wear the hat? I don't like the hat. -
What's an iron ? Some of these banana republic generals need lots of temp patches to balance the shirt. We can't have scouter leaning over all the time.

Seriously guys, she needs to step back from her sons scouting experience and let these nuts ruin it for him by adding to and subtracting from the requirements. These people are presenting this boy with a moving target. Just how long do you expect this boy to stay and enjoy scouting ?
-
BD, the AOL requirement is not just being 10 years old it is being a Webelos for at least six months since turning 10 years old or finishing the fourth grade. So 10 1/2 is the earliest they can join a troop. You have 4th graders who are 10 1/2 in February ? (My son wasn't 10 1/2 until March of 5th grade) I am sure it is possible, but the way you worded your statements gives the impression you may fudging some of the joining requirements. Please correct me if I am mistaken. I admit the BS joining requirements just say at least 10 years old with AOL but 10 1/2 is a requirement for AOL.

Movies for Citizenship in the Community

Operation Dumbo Drop. I am still scratching my head on how Disney was able to make a movie set in Vietnam. They pulled it off and it is one of the best non animated Disney movies in my opinion. -
The cub master is brand new. She's also the bishop's wife and feels she must stay in a favorable position with everyone, so she doesn't get into stuff. Even if they are, by whom?

Why Wood Badge?

You have been missed MB. -
I really do not mean to knock LDS, but when I ever hear about a "bishop" I am always reminded about the guy who drives the truck and calls himself a "Sanitation Engineer". Christinaka, you and your son are "doing your best" under poor leadership. I would welcome you in my Pack and Troop with open arms.

Unfortunately, I'm not a person that's always capable of living up to the Boy Scout philosophy. -

I am not sure, but if there is anywhere in the world they are it would be Wally World. They would shrink wrap a toothpick and put a barcode on it, I can't think of any other retailer that would do such a thing. I will buy the beer for the first person who proves me wrong. The race is on. Go! -
Megachurch Southeast Christian to drop BSA
King Ding Dong replied to Polaris's topic in Issues & Politics
Fair enough. I and others have stated this board that whatever the decision, scouting is larger than this one issue and would remain with the program. I have not seen many that said they would abandon the program if the vote did not go their way. -

Are there hookups for my RV at the "campground" ? -
Have any info on your stomp rocket setup. I have seen some that seem rather complex.

How to handle only a few boys? Lots of advice needed!
King Ding Dong replied to christineka's topic in Cub Scouts
All or nothing is a tough question. In reality few Packs have every boy in complete uniform down to the socks. The all or nothing approach seems a bit extreme to me because it really creates a divide between the haves and the have nots. I used blue Walmart pants for my oldest but the small belt loops made getting the belt with awards on a challenge. They doubled as everyday school pants as well. Personally I do not like the look of jeans, period. However I would rather see a scout in a buttoned, tucked in uniform shirt than a t shirt any day. The boys that don't bother buttoning it just look sloppy, so if they can't even do that part I would say leave it at home. I never liked the idea of forcing or strong arming kids and families into scouts. It should be something they WANT to do. Cubs that are motivated will try to earn their uniform parts and camping equipment. The hat, meh, unless you are in a temperate environment they never get to wear it much because it has to come off indoors and then tends to get lost. I will say my experience with the new cub switchback pants is good. They have the waist cinchers and are great for the changing seasons. With a proper hemming they should last you at least two years. As many have stated elsewhere, encourage wearing the uniform in a positive way. Never berate or embarrass. Reward and praise for the best dressed, no push-ups for infractions. -

No he gets a bath in the lake every day. -
Well sounds like she is acting Webelos Den Leader as your is unavailable. If this person will not listen to facts and reason you need to talk to the committee chairman and the COR. While I agree with others that there seems to be a focus on the awards and not the experience here, If he earned them he should get them. Teaching him to bend over and take it from a nut case is not the message I would want to teach my son. I would help him arm himself with the facts and stand up to this BULLY.

LNT. Did you bring a shop vac ?

As BD said, why does he need all 20 ? Kind of nuts to try and fulfill the requirements as written in 12 months. These people do not understand the point of scouting. The reason for those belt loops in sportsman is to get the den playing together and form friendships. Webelos does involve homework, but what you describe is just NUTS. My son did none of the required belt loops in Webelos at home, he did them with his den. The belt loop is play a game of kickball, not a whole season. NUTS. Cubs go swimming together all the time all over the country. Council Cub Camps have swimming, done it many times. Have her show you in writing a prohibition from National that says cubs do not swim together. That's just NUTS. In fact a certified life guard is not required. have her go to myscouting .org and take Safe Swim Defense. Unless the swimming thing is a LDS rule, if so my apologies. Don't stress about a scientist. A high school or middle school science teacher will work. Know a nurse ? Don't try and tell me a nurse is not a scientist. Know a computer scientist. Not all science is beakers and goggles.

What????? 9 months, WHY ? What grade do they start Webelos? Your not putting 4th graders in a troop, are you?

I never considered a difference of opinion in politics, in religion, in philosophy, as cause for withdrawing from a friend. Thomas Jefferson -
There are several good points here. I looked it up. The wording is screwy, the BSA likes to keep us on our toes. Even if we point it out to National some moron will think that requirement still makes sense. Ask the Dictator what requirement of those listed he should do for two weeks. Change his bike tire every day? Regarding the proof. In these type of requirements the proof is trustworthy. When the den leader asks the boy to describe what he did, does it seem credible. When he can offer evidence then he should. The parent should not be the one telling the den leader he performed a task except to verify. Until recently I had a sprinkler system and no trees so taking care of the lawn meant mowing it. Now a large part will be moving sprinklers and picking up debris. That is a good candidate and sounds like the scout did a great job. The Family Life chore chart does not say he needs to keep track of anything. That is adding to the requirements. It simple states "make a chart showing the jobs you and other family members have at home. Talk with your family about other jobs you can do for the next two months." All that is required is a list of jobs and to "talk" about other jobs. Nothing about doing them or tracking them. The Dictator can't add to the requirements. The next one says to track your budget. #2 does not. BD, where did the OP indicate the Den Leader does not work on activity badges in the meetings. To the OP, in Boy Scouts the troop will not work on MBs in the meetings, if they are following the program.
