What's the uncool stuff from the Lifesaving MB ?
-
Yes cooking and dishes are covered elsewhere. Sewing is not. laundry and ironing is not. Basic automobile skills, MB in intense. Very basic home skills like running toilet, stopped toilet, finding circuit breaker.

Maybe he has a girlfriend......

Sorry I wasn't more explicit. How did he get a blank MB card period ?

I had seen this mentioned before. I will DVR it and check it out, it could be interesting. It could also be over the top, but I think worth checking out. http://blog.scoutingmagazine.org/2013/10/29/watch-tonights-a-century-of-honor-celebration-online-on-tv-on-your-phone/#more-21197

Obama Care Vs Affordable care act.
King Ding Dong replied to Basementdweller's topic in Issues & Politics
Why doesn't anyone ask why a drug patented under US law is allowed to be sold overseas for a substantially less amount than in the US ? Thus making the US patients shoulder the entire responsibility of the R&D costs and selling overseas and manufacturing costs plus a small profit. The US should get the a lowest cost guarantee. It is our laws and legal protections that allow the patent in the first place. If a foreign country violates that patent and the World Courts fail to remedy the situation. We always have the Tomahawk. -
Second Tampa. I have see a shadow box made with the shirt and beltloops maybe the AOL arrow included. That said I think it is a Scouting value to pass the shirt on to needy scout families and make a display of just the badges. To each their own. Some may find it a little over the top, but in most cases it is at least an 8 year journey. As long as it is not presented as the journey is over, I am good with it.

How did the boy get a MB card signed by his SM ? Sure he can take care of another dog but I wouldn't accept the cat. That may fall under the Pets MB. Check GTA 2013 7.0.4.7 Limited Recourse for Unearned Merit Badges You need to act swiftly, within 30 days. The Scout may have done the badge because he wants a dog. Hopefully what he did with the badge taught him how expensive owning a dog is. More than the cost of scouts in many cases.

A Walk on the Wild Side
King Ding Dong replied to RememberSchiff's topic in Camping & High Adventure
My boys are being extra hyper today. I may a suggest a hike to Rio in the morning. Passports will be expensive. -
My 8 year old's defense is "I don't remember you telling me not to do that." He will argue that to the death.

National Volunteer Training Courses
King Ding Dong replied to pcola's topic in Open Discussion - Program
Pcola, I was really gung-ho about it in cubs because it beats making drums out of coffee cans, but now that I have a fuller understanding of BS trying to add that on seems a little much. What are your priorities? Proper sleep, homework, reading, music practice, chores, exercise, some play time, maybe some sports, Scoutcraft, required merit badges, after school clubs, friends, family. Stop the insanity! As you can tell I am getting overwhelmed trying to juggle it all. I know national wants the scout to be 1st class before working on the Supernova. -
Paragraph break. So what would you all suggest I do for conditioning for my son ? I can get him out once on the weekends, but there really just isn't time or daylight for hiking during the week. Homework, reading, sleep, chess and science club, eating, troop meeting all eat up a lot of time. I place a high priority on 10 hours of sleep. Clark over at Scoutmastercg recommends the $65 Teton Sports 3400. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000F34ZKS/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B000F34ZKS&linkCode=as2&tag=cagreenwoodw Should I get him it for Christmas and just have him practice with it on our weekend hikes ? Need to measure his waist, not sure it is 26 inches yet. I swear his body reminds me of the classic little green alien. One of the other boys has it. Maybe they will drop out and I can pick it up for $25 EDIT: jblake, just reread your suggestions. We have some large Speedo swimming backpacks that we could progressively load up in weight. Might be more comfortable and closer to a modern backpack. What advantage do you see with the yucca ?

Update : I got a short report on that weekend backpacking trip. The three other 1st year 11 year olds went with nice fancy new packs they had never used before. The troop has not done a hike since April. There were apparently tears from all three of them and they had to drop out Saturday, but had to make it back to the camp road. I expressed my reservations about it to two of the other Dads, but they thought 7-10 miles in a day was no big deal. Hope they stay in scouting. Glad I took a pass on that one. Took the family for a 4 mile hike at a state park Saturday instead. Boys were tired but fine, wife was crabby and didn't want to cook dinner.

How Prepared are Utah Scouts?
King Ding Dong replied to RememberSchiff's topic in Open Discussion - Program
I read through a large chunk of the comments in the sltrib piece and in combination with what is posted on this forum there certainly are problems with the LDS Scouting program. They are also a large, and at least in Utah somewhat concentrated, Scouting organization so therefor have a large target on their back. No way to really tell statistically if they have more problems than the rest of scouting or just get a bum rap. The comments are full of stories of disinterested leaders providing the scouts with to much rope without proper training and guidance. That can happen anywhere, but the "voluntold" issue gives it some plausibility. -
Naw, not Bush......Cheney probably.

Absolute power corrupts......(kidding) I do have a question though with some of the recent spam. A few other members responded with lots of "llama" and I chimed in as well albeit blindly. Can someone explain what that is supposed to accomplish ?

Custom Chuckboxes
King Ding Dong replied to jpstodwftexas's topic in Equipment Reviews & Discussions
Those are very cool jp. I like the one with wheels, but wonder how they stack in the trailer. I saw one last week that had casters on it. I suggested to the kid he should add a lawn mower engine to it and make it self propelled. -
Unfortunately for me the wife doesn't hem so it actually adds $10 to the cost of the pants
-
Two boys fell asleep in my arms watching the game tonight. Life doesn't get any better than this.
-
It has been two years since I bought new microfiber switchbacks and they were not hemmed. I bought microfiber switchbacks for my son last March and they were not hemmed. For some mystical reason my pants shrank in the waist recently and the scout shop had the nylon switchbacks on clearance for 15 so I picked up a pair in a larger size and they were not hemmed, I bought my bear cub switchbacks recently and they were not hemmed. When I look at Scoutstuff.org all they pants are listed as unhemmed. So there may be some available with determined inseams, although I have not seen them. jblake is obviously blessed.

As you know I took over as IH recently. Although I had not filled out the paperwork I was able to call the service center and ask all sorts of questions. I had concerns about certain leaders being registered and their YPT status and such. I got all the answers I needed and the helpful registar even emailed me a PDF of the entire roster. Now I am not in any way suggesting you violate the Scout law and oath. Just sayin....

So let me get this straight. You claim Christians are persecuted and when shown evidence of Christians in government persecuting another religion you chalk it up to "crabby" ? -
