  1. As long as he can show adequate leadership in a "Project Manager" role, I don't think it matters how the supplies got there...fundraising just won't be part of his project. Sounds like they already know what they want and where they want it, and are just looking for someone to provide grunt labor. The challenge will be to show enough leadership and planning.
  2. Could it be that people with bad credit ratings statistically have more auto insurance claims? Just sayin....
  3. Sounds like a lack of training. The DL's work for the CM to carry out the vision and program decided on by the committee. And I agree, there is no reason to be double/triple-hatted unless you want to have all the power.
  4. There are no "rules" about such things. Committees need to set their ground rules up front...most are very informal and not strict about "rules of order". THe COR is the liaison between the Unit and the CO. So, I would say, yes they have the final say...but if they continued to usurp the responsibilities of the COmmittee and Unit Leader, I would have to have the proverbial "friendly cup of coffee" and ask them to either let me do my job, or find a replacement.
  5. I think if I were being asked to work 50 hrs a week and being called part-time, I'd have a chat with the Labor Department...and the union. THere are laws about that.
  6. "Our MB Pow Wow Organizer who is a District Committee member disagrees and says any scout can attend, so long he is official. (registered, in troop, ect ect.)" This is correct. In addition, they must have SM approval to work on the badge (e.g., signed blue card if your council uses those). Just ignore the DE. He doesn't "approve" anything when it comes to advancement work. It's between the SM, the MBC and the Scout. Now about those MB Pow Wows...
  7. Just like WE are now paying for the "Great Society" that our parents voted for. Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid...what's the diff? Nobody asked ME if I agreed with Medicare. And I DON'T agree with a lot of it...especially the waste and fraud part. And as Big Gov gets deeper and deeper into our lives, it will only get worse. The whole thing is a grand scale Ponzi scheme...the same thing they put Madoff in jail for. Let all the taxpayers keep their money and buy what they need. How's that for "choice and competition". Costs will come down if there is really a choice...but when the healthcare industry knows that Medicare will pay XXX for a procedure, guess what...that's what they will "accept", even if it could be done cheaper. You can bet your bottom dollar that I wouldn't have 4 walkers in my shed if the patient had to pay for them. But the Govt pays for them, so what the hey..."sure, I'll take another one." PS: WWJD? I would hope He'd just cure everyone.(This message has been edited by scoutldr)
  8. Here in the Land of Pleasant Living, we drink "Aruh See Cocola". Usually served with Snickuhs or Moon Pahs. When we do get real Coke in a 6 oz bottle, you have to dump in some salted Planter's Peanuts. (not boiled peanuts)
  9. This is really between the parents and the Troop. Just adhere to the rules...if the requirements aren't done, no AOL. Oh, well.
  10. I think the fallacy in health insurance, and the reason it costs so much, is that we expect it to cover everything health related. I believe that, like auto or homeowners' insurance, it should only cover "accidents" or catastrophic illness. Does your auto insurance pay for oil changes or new tires? Does your homeowner's policy cover a new roof every 10 years? Of course not. You're expected to save for those things and pay out of pocket. My MIL is on Medicare which she gets for free, even though she never paid into the system (her last paying job was in the 1940's). She is refusing to go to the local Walgreens for a flu shot because it will cost her $25. (and she's not indigent, by any means). So, we have to get her an appointment with her doctor, my wife has to take leave from work and spend half a day getting her to and from...because Medicare will cover the office visit and the cost of the shot. But they don't cover the day of vacation time that my wife will lose. This takes up an appointment that the Dr could use to see a sick person, thus exacerbating the health care crisis. So, by her refusing to pay $25, it's costing the taxpayer about $150 and costing my wife a day's pay. That's economic insanity and it's unsustainable...
  11. I also hear it's not looking good for the Heisman Trophy, even though he doesn't play football.
  12. Try www.411.com I was able to find Albert Fromberger in Argyle, NY. (not sure if it's the same guy, but it's not exactly a common name) 4 hours away.
  13. Never heard of it. I would guess it's the result of a Council merger, but usually the Lodges merge, too.
  14. The rising epidemic of narcissism. Get used to it.
  15. I thought it was Sweden, too, until I did my homework...don't want to be called an ignorant worm, ya know. Got called one anyway. I think Lisa was right...even Obama is saying, "Say, wha? Ya gotta be kiddin me."
  16. Well, the Troll accomplished his mission...hit and run.
  17. From reading this forum for the last several years, and reading Scouting magazine and Boys' Life, I can only come to the conclusion that proper uniforming is MUCH more important to us than it is to the BSA.
  18. IF that were the policy, then the standard Boy scout knife (and Cub Scout knife) would be illegal. My philosophy is that, if sold by the BSA (www.scoutstuff.org , search on "knife"), it must be OK.
  19. I asked my dad once, "what will I get if I get all A's"...he response..."you get to NOT be on restriction".
  20. "Away, then, with all those prophets who say to the people of Christ, Peace, peace, and there is no peace!" Martin Luther, Thesis 92 I decided to officially boycott Norway...but found out they don't produce much. Ok, then...no more Lutefisk for me! Who's with me?
  21. How come non-Lutherans know so much about Martin Luther? Luther protested (protestant) against the corruption of Rome, such as the selling of tickets to heaven (indulgences). "It is certain that when the penny jingles into the money-box, gain and avarice can be increased, but the result of the intercession of the Church is in the power of God alone."
  22. My immediate response is "MYOB". It's a family matter how a parent raises their kids, as long as there's no abuse. I bought my sons cars when they graduated high school (used, not new). Not sure that's anyone else's business, quite frankly. But I'll see what the others say.
  23. adj. Determined by chance, whim, or impulse, and not by necessity, reason, or principle I don't consider any of the above rules to be "arbitrary". They all have reasons. Do the scouts understand the reasons? "No sheath knives". Now, THAT's arbitrary.
