  1. I am ACM if I go to council office would they give me the report for all of the leadership in the pack????
  2. I am curious. How do i check my own training records on scout.net??????
  3. Assuming the statics are correct, I think we all agree that retention is a great thing.
  4. Thx for all the replys. My post is the result of my efforts to turn in my training records to the pack we just joined. I tried to submit them to the pack secretary who told me to give them to the CM The CM told me to give them to the Secretary who told me to try the CC The CC told me to give them to the Secretary who told me forget it, it doesn't really matter. I started asking the DL's about training, some had little others had none. I am going to suggest that we do youth protection at one of the committee meetings and I will volunteer to track and arrange the
  5. A question about training. Our current pack does not have any records of adult training. I know the answers but I am looking for guidance to back my argument to assign someone to track it. What recourse is there for adults who refuse to complete or update YP or Position specific training?
  6. Acquaintance- A person you have met in person, does not includes internet people. Buddy-A guy you have had an adult beverage with, you met at a gathering and have some common interest. The kinda person you can BS's with garage race or tell lies around the campfire with. Friend-A non family member who you can trust more than a buddy, The kinda guy you trust enough to go hunting upland bird with. This group you can hold an adult discussion with and not worry about offending anyone. the kinda guy you would share your tent with. Best Friend-I view my wife as my best friend,
  7. My guess is the server crashed and there is no on call to reset it?
  8. Those scout vests, what weight is the Fleece?? there is a huge difference. I have been burned by cheap fleece. Far as the red fleece jacket, Buy one put your patches on it and enjoy it. Who cares what the uniform police say.
  9. Underarmour long johns are not that warm. Your better off buying polypropylene in various weights. Silk weight next to skin, medium weight next. I carry spare gear with me and have given young men replacement long johns after there underarmour was not warm enough. You could buy 3 or 4 piece of poly for one piece of underarmour. Sierra Trading Post. Don't forget a good hat and socks. He is going to need more than one complete set, top, bottom and socks. With Underarmour that will be a $150+ proposition especially for a boy who may out grow it by next winter. As Eamo
  10. You did not mention what your doing, because it does make a difference. My list assumes your Backpacking I like Eagles list..... Gatorade bottles yes yes yes. Lantern no no no. Saw no no no. What are you going to do with it? Campfire????? Cook kit.....Depends a bit on the stove, but I get deals at garage sales and thrift stores. I would not try to cook for the entire group out of one pot.....As suggested Our boys go to walmart and buy a cheap plastic plate and cup, and a spoon. I don't like MSR stoves for scouts because of the pumps I worr
  11. I am going to agree, that the college grad needs to have actually been a boy scout as a youth. How about returning phone calls and emails? Following thru on obligations and commitments. Supporting your volunteers. Showing up a District or Council function once and a while. Caring.
  12. jeezzzz guys. I just noted that people from Tenn, GA, NC believe Global warming is a hoax and those in the north Minnesota, Michigan, and Ohio agree that there is something to global warming. I never commented on education level, income level or social issues. I am sorry that you are thin skinned enough that it bothers you. I happen to agree and believe that we humans are warming the planet.
  13. I read this thread a shake my head. reminds me of the story about a group of blind men and the elephant. It is a snake, it is a tree, it is a wall. In all seriousness, You cannot believe that humanity and our current style of living do not have an impact on the planet. Waste heat from air conditioning, waste heat from our vehicles. Waste heat from heating our buildings. In a typical American style, It is all great till it effects me. You better not impact my life one bit, and I do not care what the cost to anyone else as long as it doesn't change the way I live or
  14. I second the malware attack. My software went crazy.
  15. That is a huge help. Do you happen to know which activity pins they will work on???? thx
  16. rj.....when are they going to post the dates for Friedlander?????? More importantly the Weeb dates.
  17. Simon Kenton's resident camp program is terrible. If it so great why do most of the weebs and boy scouts that attend resident camp leave the Council. The camps are in terrible shape and the rates we pay out of council are cheaper than our in council rates. Two years ago at one of the Kenton camps we arrived Wednesday night for the leaders meeting to discover there was "No official Program" but more what would you like do. The program was weak and staff untrained, the boys spent the week in the pool and shot bb and archery. A waste of my Camp $$$$$$. Another camp is in a s
  18. You need to remember at his level he has seen everything that Cub Scouting has to offer. It may be better for him not to attend Cub resident camp this year. You could take the Weeb den out for a 3 or 4 day camp with the assistance of the cross over prospective boy scout troop. My son is in the same boat and he is a Bear. We attended a couple of council/district cub events recently and he was bored. So we approached the Troop he is joining about attending a few events with them. The scout master was more than happy to have us come along as guests. So we have attended a camporee,
  19. To be honest the way whittle chip is taught is terrible. I would never use a steel knife to do it. Just because other do it does not make it right. I used craft sticks to make wooden pocket knives. Very cheap to make. Plus the parents who chose not to buy their son a knife will not miss out. I have yet to have any injury to anyone while teaching in this manner. First the boys learned safe handling with the wooden knife. Second we learned to sharpen the wooden knives on sand paper sharpening stones. Sharpening is the most important skill IMHO. Then we whittled
  20. Parent "Why did you leave with out him?" me "we left at 8:30" Parent "We were only 15 minutes late." Me "Well I am sorry about that but we were supposed to leave at 8 and we did call your cell". Parent after a big sigh "But I was talking to my sister and we were only 15 minutes late." Me "No, you were 45 minutes late and we did try to call" Parent" you ruined my plans for the day." What about his day??????(This message has been edited by Basementdweller)
  21. eagle.........I think his point was after receiving his eagle he was only motivated to earn two merit badges. I will bet that he had sufficeint merit badges earned for both palms before he received his eagle.
  22. a SM conference takes.....5-10 minutes right?????? especially for a palm.
  23. packsaddle.....that was kinda my read on it. the CC was made that the secretary did her job. Just the way it looks from the side lines.
  24. Take a deep breath.....hold it......hold it......let it out. Did the boys have fun? Did you have fun? Do you think the Pack may do it next year? Pizza Party with the winnings......sounds like a plan to me. Scouting is fantastic and a fun thing till you add adults. Remember it is about and for the boys. You should feel lucky you have help. Packs and troops are killed by adult turf wars. Relax and enjoy your son and his accomplishments.
  25. I do not understand the financing of scouting beyond my FOS, recharter fee and the expenses I pay to attend events. I imagine the politics are immense. Are the financial records public?????? You have aroused my curiosity. I see the way our council manages money, it is terrible. I have spoken on occasion to the councils camp rangers and have helped with their wish or need lists. I trust these camp supervisors, it is ashame there is no way to see to the camps needs with out the greedy people at the council office getting involved.
