  1. If I remember correctly one of the guiding points of the patrol method was having boys of similar ages and interests in the patrol. That is the whys of the the Troop Guide POR.
  2. Canoeing isn't totally ban, but it says flat water and Council or District Activity only. I would print the age appropriate activity chart and present it to the group. If your the only baloo trained adult I would make sure to tell them that you will not permit the group to use your name on the tour permit. Of course with what you have posted I will wager that they don't bother with a tour permit. Bring it up for a vote even after showing her the age specific guidelines. hmmmmm. Doing the right thing can be painful, I am going to bet this is going to be one of those t
  3. Crossovers, everybody puts too much emphasis on them. It is just a ceremony after all. I would see what the boys want to do crossover or work on the AOL. You simply cannot do both in my book. I will say it seems more than a little silly to hold a crossover ceremony if they are not going to actually crossover. Forget about tradition or what you have always done. If the boys want to finish their AOL great, postpone the crossover till they finish. If they chose to crossover and become boy scouts great, see you. It is my belief that you shouldn't have it both ways, cro
  4. ahhhhh, cub's can't participate in the national camping award. Lets see my cub camps 2 nights per month with the BS. Family backpacking during the summer for 14 nights, Resident camp for 4 nights. two council family campouts 46 plus nights a year camping not too bad for a 9 year old. Just curious, why is it so tough for the boys to meet these requirements 20 days is easy.
  5. Here is a link to the master educator course schedule http://www.lnt.org/training/master_educator_courses.php Here is a link to the trainer course calendar http://www.lnt.org/training/trainercourses.php
  6. While I appreciate great chow......Camp chow should be quick and easy. But your menu sounds like trouble. But, you could probably precook at home then no alcohol on the camp and following the rules.
  7. I am not downing the knot program......for some it is a need appropriate carrot. All to often I see adult scouters judge each other by the bobbles on their shirt. My point is....if your involved in scouting in our district or council you all ready know who I am, if you don't then I will prove my worth thru deeds not silly knots. I recall seeing some posts on this forum from new scouters intimated by adults who have a bunch of knots on their shirts. pfffffttttt. I would rather be approachable by new parents or scouters. I do have a shirt with all of awards, patch
  8. Just one scout once we receive the application and fees.
  9. I have to laugh at myself. I musta been in a bad mood last night. It is a bobble for an adult shirt.......WHO CARES??? If it makes a volunteer feel better, bully for them. I will say that at one point having a bunch of knots was important to me, now not so much. My current shirt has my council, unit POR, World scout patch and that's it. I tear them up too much and too often to do all the extra sewing.
  10. This series of links will prove it. Read under tenure This link says complete one year as registered tiger cub leader http://www.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/34169-50.pdf This link says complete one year as cub scout den leader http://www.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/34169-51.pdf'>http://www.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/34169-51.pdf This link says complete one year as webelos den leader. http://www.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/34169-51.pdf Anyone who recharters knows you cannot register in more than one direct contact position per pack or troop or crew.
  11. All this debate is silly, It boils down to the individual Scout. AOL 11, 10, 10.5 or graduated 5th grade. I have seen 12 year old's melt down and a weekend camp home sick.
  12. Did lodge recommend canola oil???? I wonder how it will impact taste I have always used the cheapest veggie oil I can find. Eagle is correct the more you use it and re-oil it the better it will get.
  13. I am an Assistant Cub Master and Assistant Scout Master at on charter org and a den leader and troop committee member at another.
  14. my guess is the server crashes for some reason and the paid IT support person isn't on call. So it waits till monday morning.
  15. I believe all of the Cub knots state Registered for position. As a person can only register for only one position with in a pack at a time then one knot per person. With that said you can hold positions in multiple Packs. I have stepped up and been a den leader for a Pack other than my sons.
  16. This has been discussed many times on this forum. The results were everything from "oh their kids", "I don't want to ruin his life and college prospects" thru "throw them in jail". I am of the belief that law enforcement should be involved. Let them investigate and decide if he is guilty or not. Then based on their finding, decide whether he should remain a scout. He needs helps sure, but now he is involving others in his addiction. I caught a coworker abusing drugs on the job and reported it to my superior as required by our company policy. He was put on a
  17. Here is a link to national about joining boy scouts it clearly says at least 10 years old with the arrow of light. http://www.scouting.org/scoutsource/BoyScouts/AdvancementandAwards/joining.aspx But the soonest you can earn the arrow of light is 10.5 I cannot find a link on national
  18. I apologize for my assumption. In the past we have had a number of new members trying selling gear and training, to the members. The posted links that would eventually lead to their virtual store front. Because you had not contributed to the discussion I assumed you were going to benefit financially from the training. Enjoy your training experience. It is always great to lose yourself in the outdoors.
  19. He has no use for scouting and does not like his wife and Step sons involvement take a read http://www.scouter.com/forums/viewAllPosts.asp?userID=62270&p=1 Just trolling and venting his frustration
  20. Since the ip address are logged I would ask the moderator to see who uniform.knotsy is for sure and take appropriate action if it is needed.
  21. I saw the post and I bet the moderators deleted it. $200 is too much for a 2 day class. With only a hand full of post is was evident to me you just signed up to sell your class.
  22. I believe that you must have all of the basic Boy Scout leader training completed. At least on the three wood badge applications I have seen all ask that question. Whats the rush????
  23. I assumed it was a cub family campout and infoscouter has the correct form. Besides in boy scouts what committee would decide to camp????? The PLC?????
  24. Our public school programs are all pay to play. Which in my opinion is fair since most of the high school parents expect their kids to get scholarships from their playing.
