Funny or at least humorous camping stories

I disagree with the ACLU because I haven't found one thing yet where they argued a point that I was FOR. Gonzo, you said June would be empty on your "holiday tree." You forgot June has Flag Day and the US Army's Birthday on June 14. Also, maybe put a few college baseball team items on there to celebrate the College World Series being held in the month of June. And heck, you might as well throw the tree up right now to celebrate Halloween coming up, Thanksgiving's in a month. Might as well get started now!

I will be formulating an addition response later today, but I wanted to bring up a couple quick points... First, the Boys Life-- Typically, I read one or two things in the magazine. The "Hitchin' Rack" and the "Scouts to the Rescue" or whatever it's called. Every now and then, I'll see an article that looks interesting, but I'm tired of the video games and such all the time. Next, I'll address the "old symbols"-- I guess the USA needs to get rid of Old Glory too, I mean it's only, what, 230 years old? What about the Yankees uniform or the Red Sox uniform? I'll post more details later, those two things are what popped out right away...

Having problems with the pages on the forum
hops_scout replied to gwd-scouter's topic in Open Discussion - Program
"You are not authorized to view this page" I believe that statement is not of big concern to us, but mainly to Scouter-Terry and his company. That is taking the place of a Google Ad that must not be programming properly therefore the ads are not showing up. It shouldn't affect much. "Back button issues" Unfortunately Scouter has had to go to using Google ads in order to pay for this site. Terry mantains this site free of charge to its users and uses the advertisements thru Google to pay for it. The ads themselves reload every so often. This creates a "page" in your "Back button" therefore you have to hit the back button again and again until it does go where you want. I typically go up to the arrow next to "Back" and use it instead of just hitting the back button. Hope it helps:) -
Gern, as logical as that sounds, I don't think he's talking about making them shorts to "shorten" them. I think he's looking for pants that are shortened, but still are pants.

Most of our permission slips go out in the mail with our monthly newsletter. Some, for things such as color guard details, can only be had by talking to the SM. Also, they keep a couple generic slips on-hand at meetings in case somebody forgets and the parent is there.

Still hanging out. There's another in right now as well..

I'm going to be in most of the evening. Come on by!

As silly as it sounds, it's the truth. Your wet clothes from sweat can cool quickly if the temps drop even a little bit. I experienced that today right after football practice even though it was 93 degrees.

I'm gonna be in tonite once again.

I'm in right now. It's been pretty quiet this week; not much action in the chat room.

I think it's time people stop blaming the BSA for all of the health issues. You gripe when they don't let somebody do an activity for health reasons, so when they let those people do it, guess what? It's the BSA's fault when people who shouldn't be in the heat are. I understand it was hot that day. I made the trip from Subcamp 4 after, on that day, having already walked from Action Center A back to Action Center D to the Subcamp 3 where I was working. There were a lot of Scouts and Scouters, and parents, etc there should not have been. Also those people didn't come PREPARED. I blame adult leadership, youth leadership, and the individual Scouts quite a bit too for the heat issues that arose that day. Oh, and in case you didn't realize; it's 90+ degrees in 90% of the country right now!! Work is still getting done! BE PREPARED!!

I'll be in tonite for probably an hour or so.

Qualifying to attend summer camp
hops_scout replied to Chippewa29's topic in Open Discussion - Program
EagleinKY, I was in the troop for at least 2 years before I got Tenderfoot. I didn't go to summer camp until my third summer in the troop and on campouts we seldom did requirements. -
AK and I are in right now, but it's pretty quiet.

There's 3 of us in right now.

I'm in the chat room now. Venture's here but not here;) Let's get some more in here:) http://groups.msn.com/boyscouts/chatroom.msnw

The camp we went to a few weeks ago did mainly Patrol Cooking. We had lunch in the "bullpen" which was an open-air facility. Breakfast and dinner were both cooked in the campsite most of the time. Parents' Night was Porksteak under the bullpen.

Venturing Crew headed to Boundary Waters
hops_scout replied to purcelce's topic in Camping & High Adventure
Dan, I talked to Purcelce on Friday or Saturday. He had taken his laptop with him to upload pics off the digital and it turns out he was able to get a wireless connection. He joined us in the chat room while sitting in a tent, he said. I believe he was supposed to return either today or yesterday. Problem is he's coming back to a disaster area so he may not have internet at home currently. The St. Louis region is hurting right now.
