We had the similar situation where we were getting a lot of scouts 14 and older transferring in from other troops and almost all the scouts transferring in from out of state. When I asked council about it, they said it was the DE. You have to look at it from the professional's perspective, they want to put families in units where they will stay a while. Warning: when you get a reputation of a successful program, you will eventually be recruited to a lower position in district or even council to spread the wealth. Barry

There are lots of references on how we should judge, but you can just back to the scripture in mathew you refereced. Barry

>>The point is it is not your place or my place or anyone elses place to pass judgement on any other group of people.

>>I think that passage I quoted speaks for itself, and it is not just about hypocrisy.
-
>>The biggest problem I see with what you propose is the BSA's current focus on NSPs and other 'age appropriate" patrols.
-
>>"Judge not lest ye be judged" -a Bible quote for you that blows apart the theory in your last post> IMO scouters are hardly in any position to judge other scouters as to their lifestyle,

More focus on Patrol Meetings and less on the Troop meetings. I could see it becoming one Troop meeting a month with two or three patrol meetings a month. Barry

>>my Christian Bible tells me that I am a sinner too and that all men are brothers under God.

The uniform as the great equalizer is one of the main qualities I teach scouts. I once had a scout do his on personal poll and he agreed, he couldnt tell rich from poor in our troop. He could tell mood though by how the scouts wore it, which is what I teach adults to look for when scouts dont seem focused on scouting. More often than not, a change in how a scout wears his uniform means something is going on at home or school. Barry

>>Christians who sit back and judge everybody and find a million faults and openly state them - but never look for the first good quality

>>Stage-shy is an understatement. If he were forced to sing it would be devastating to him. You people who think this is no big deal need to get your head out of the sand or whatever dark place you have it in.

How would you explain that Reverent is important?
Eagledad replied to MattR's topic in Open Discussion - Program
I advocate everyone starting the discussion at the same place, which is with God. God is fair and just, so starting there starts us in the right direction.. That is why it doesnt work man, try as we might, we can't seem to get our self interest out of the mix. As for the Leviticus reference, read Mathew for the updated version. Barry -
Where does BSA tell us homosexuals are not allowed?
Eagledad replied to shortridge's topic in Issues & Politics
Please Scoutfish (I even call my sons Scooter), no dump cake. Your last post as well as NJs make no sense to me. In fact they imply you agree more than you realize with me that gays are not good role models for scouts. The local option makes no sense if you still believe gays should not express publicly a homosexual lifestyle they believe is normal. Something as simple and innocent as introducing their life partner is an expression of the lifestyle choice. It is also a public expression of their behavior in front of scouts. If you think this serious discussion is anything less, you are pandering to political correctness so you can feel good about yourself and ignoring the real moral issue of modeling a homosexual lifestyle in font of the scouts as a normal lifestyle. >>Posted: Saturday, 9/3/2011: 8:53:36 AM quality I have long wondered why we would want something like 'morality' to be dictated to us, as opposed to thinking it through and understanding morality for ourselves. -

>>If they look like everybody else, then they must be acting like everybody else in public. So they are no more modeling anything gay than you or I. -

>>My Point is how do you know for sure???????? Mmmm, really? I think your point overall is why should people even care at all. Most of us agree that even now there are likely gays mentoring our kids in the BSA. What you really want is general acceptance for them publically role model a gay lifestyle to our sons. I'm not talking about crude behavior that shouldn't be displayed in public, just a quick peck on the cheek from a partner saying good by before leaving on a week long summer camp trip should be acceptable. I don't accept that it nobodies business because its all about sex in the bedroom. Even the homosexual community calls it a lifestyle. Barry -
The way this discussion is going, peer pressure could be defined as hazing. Barry

I hear what you are saying evilleramsfan, but I don't think its about sex, its about morality. Parents don't need to hear about the details of the Scoutmaster's private sex life to learn of his/her moral values. They only need to meet the spouse, or umm, friend at the the next COH dinner. I think that is really what the issue is about. Barry -

>>I gotta giggle here. years ago watched an episode of scout park that had a gay scoutmaster who had been in the position for years, boys loved him and the troop ran great. Well he got kicked out for being gay, they bring in a drill instructor kinda guy who was a whole lot less fun and took pictures of the boys less than fully clothed. -

Eagledad replied to MattR's topic in Open Discussion - Program
Yes I completely agree for families and friends who want their son to learn about their specific religion. But that is not the responsibility of a mentor of boys of several different religions. The mentor guides the boy torward God, but not so much to influence him in conflict with his family. I'm not saying we shouldn't use personal examples, but it's a way of opening a scouts eyes without adding blinders at the same time. Barry -

True, but my wife is the first to say that I struggle with conflict and put it off as long as I possibly can. You can be assured that in my mind "he's out-a-here". Barry -
