  1. Um if they already have my application from a couple years current, why the need to do it again? My social security # hasn't changed and I make sure my council has the most current info on me address wise. Sounds like something for another data breach to happen. I know council runs background checks on volunteers. They disqualified our assistant cubmaster a couple years ago due to a domestic violence arrest and they told him he was on the banned list...

  2. In the old Troop, we had three types of Scouts that were MCing. The first was those working on Communications MB. They were usually the worst. Second was the SPLs and ASPLs. They varied, but were usually better than the Comm. MB Scouts. The third was the kids with the gift of gab. (Often they were the older scouts who were former SPLs). They were good, otherwise they wouldn't just volunteer for it.

  3. What about my description makes you think the youth aren't planning it? We have a lot more campfires than CoHs. And, SPLs usually need to earn Comm MB too. He is "ordinary rank and file." Regardless, we've never considered it the emcees job to hand out awards.

  4. I agree Prof. Hate to see some of the old CAC camps be sold off. Spent many weekends on camp outs and Firecrafter rituals at both Red Wing and Bear Creek as a youth and an adult. I feel sad for the scouts who have spent years keeping the scouting spirit alive at each camp.

  5. I camped there several times! Nice place. Will be missed. An important item from the article is that Red Wing is one of three camps that the council will divest from. Camps Bear Creek and Wildwood are also to be divested. Sad Day for the CAC

  6. The delay maybe be from insurance pricing. Unless BSA is self-insured, we may be unable to get liability insurance in the future. If you were an insurance underwriter for BSA, how much uncertainty would be in your cost algorithms right now? If the liability costs of having men and boys in the woods has ballooned to what the lawyers have trolled up, what are the future costs of having girls in the troops with the 'Me Too!' movement?

  7. This is an issue in our troop. We have a number of scouts that have been attending a monthly program where about 15 MBs are offered in morning & afternoon 3 hour sessions. Every one of the MBs that scouts have taken at these sessions have resulted in a signed off blue card during the session - some of them in highly questionable circumstances. Once the Scoutmaster found out about the cost for this program, and the issues with how they obtain & use counselors, he announced to the troop that he would no longer issue signed blue cards for anyone attending those programs.
