  1. I have been avoiding reading this thread because I hadn't seen the movie. Earlier this evening, my wife and I saw it. (I guess that has become our idea of a wild New Year's Eve date.) I barely recognize the movie I just saw from many of the comments in this thread (including the Vanity Fair article.) I thought it was a good movie, if somewhat derivative of Episode V. There was no Jar Jar Binks and the Porgs were at least tolerable. And there were more humorous moments in this one than any previous SW film, though my wife just told me that the humor is one of the reasons it has be

  3. I wasn't going to ask this, but @NJCubScouter put porgs and Shatner in the same post ... Did anyone else think "Trouble with Tribbles" when Chewy brought them onboard the Falcon?

  4. I enjoy the vintage versions of things as well. I picked up a 1970's version of the SM leaders patch. Hopefully, a previous SM left some luck in it. While not something to wear, I picked up the 1938 version of the Handbook for Scoutmasters. I've been looking for the red wool jacket lately. Sadly, no stories behind them, just cool old things.

  5. Yes. I have a conspiracy theory - the newbie directors/producers taking over Star Trek/Star Wars franchises are throwing pacifiers to old fans who are upset at reusing previous plots, inconsistent or contradictory story lines and characters, overuse of CGI,... I wonder if The Federation will respond to the Rebels distress call?

  6. Typically, I try to stay far, far away from this particular I&P sub-forum but the words" Naturalist" and "Environmentalist" caught my nature-loving eye. What we call ourselves (or others) is of little concern to me anymore with regards to environmental issues. When it comes down to it, we all rely on clean water and clean air. We all need nutritious food, which is grown in (hopefully) healthy soil. And we need to have a clean living space free from hazardous wastes, such as garbage and biological byproducts, mucking up the works. I don't see how a naturalist couldn't be an

  7. YWCA?? isn't that just for Girls? How in the world can you have a club just for Girls? Isn't that a bit sexist? Won't someone get offended? Isn't GSUSA still just for Girls? How can such a thing exist? It is the current year! Oh wait. . . Girls can have their own clubs, but boys can't. Got it. It is sad to see the greatest boys club ever die like this. . . A death by a million helicopters and power point slides. . . From an outdoor game ---->>>> to a boring indoor classroom of advancement.

  8. They changed the uniform strip to just " Scouts" back in '72. Probably what they will do again. I don't care what they change it to so long as they change it. I don't want any confusion between the organization I once proudly belonged to, and what it is morphing into in its declining years. I'm exactly one year I plan to set up my old canvas tent, light a huge bonfire, uncork a bottle of old Irish whisky, and toast my old scouting friends, some dead some living. It's called a wake
