Safeguarding Youth Test (Not a Survey)

Just got this "survey" request through email.

But, it is not a survey... it is a test of your knowledge and application of Safeguarding Youth policies and procedures.

Incorrect to call it a survey... a survey asks for your opinion or perspective on things.

This was just a 22-question outright multiple choice exam.

Ignorant? Manipulative? Misleading? Deceptive?

I'll apply Hanlon's Razor and move on...

Scouting America Safety
Dear Scouting America Member,

At Scouting America, safeguarding our youth isn’t just a priority—it’s central to preparing young people for life. Your perspective and input helps strengthen the safe, supportive environment that families expect from our programs.

As part of our continuing effort to strengthen our safeguarding efforts, Scouting America is working with USA Child, a nonprofit think tank devoted to ending child abuse and neglect, on evidence-based solutions to issues related to safeguarding youth. Your input in this process is critical.

Please take a few minutes to complete USA Child Research’s brief, anonymous child‑safety survey.

Deadline to complete the survey is December 31, 2025.

Click here to start the survey:

Thank you for taking the survey and for all you do to keep kids safe.

I'm going with an attempt at quality control. I wonder how many people bombed the survey and had their SYT revoked?

Took less than 10 minutes - 22/22.

I would be surprised if anyone who paid attention to any version of YPT, never mind the update SYT, would have bombed.

What would be more surprising is if we never had another YPT/SYT failure.

Ultimately, the failure before, and very likely again, is not a Scouting issue.  What is a Scouting issue may be too many NOT paying attention or simply following the rules, no matter how they may feel personally.  IF the concern is not valid, then it will likely prove itself, but if it is valid, and it is ignored due to public opinion and personal friendships, then the failure is not on the back of Scouting.

I will disagree; if it happens, no matter what the reason, it is a scouter issue. The sad part is, where does the buck stop?  With the professionals, who are the ones who should be high-level watchdogs, being the least trained and can be the last to unset the offending high-level volunteers, it took over 20 years to get them to stop using torches with the OA

The issue is one of humanity and the people who are warped in some way.  And those people, even if involved in the program, are still warped.  No manner of rules or guidelines will completely stop someone that is going to do abusive things.  That is why everyone needs to be aware and respond as required if something is out of line, no matter who it is.  Sadly, no barriers are completely foolproof, no matter what they are.

There are no watchdogs were there is no transparency and no vigilance.

My 2 cents, er nickel.
