In case I was vague, the LCs/SEs I mentioned reviewed all the redacted claims that implicate the LC.
-
Deleted. Per the document when issued by the TCC. I don't recall hearing about or seeing an update with corrections and/or fields completed that were misplaced or blank. The information summarized in the attached charts was exported by the Boy Scouts’ professionals from the filed sexual abuse claims. It has come to the attention of the Tort Claimants’ Committee’s professionals that not all the information was exported error free. The Tort Claimants’ Committee intends to address with the Boy Scouts’ professionals any information discrepancies in the claims data to help in ensure the information is collected uniformly and accurately. As we know from the TCC town halls, The Stang repeatedly implored survivor claimants to file amendments to more fully complete their POC. I have no idea how many did. I wonder if Omni would give the number. I may ask. I would think a lot of attorneys would have either scrambled to review and attempt to complete the claims or they were among those satisfied with having a batch of timely claims in the que, waiting for a payday. As I've mentioned before, the firms such as Zuckerman, Mones, Zalkin, Pfau, Anderson and others did their vetting on the front end. I bet their clients didn't need to do much if anything to have a robust POC. Side note as to vetting, and this goes back to the roster requests. LCs had the chance to review the claims implicating them and I am aware of SEs who read all of them for to see if the information lined up to their records and anything they could use to verify. I have wondered how much those reviews played a part in the Ad Hoc Committee's formula for contributions. I have too many blind spots in my understanding of all of this.
-
I think we would have to define vetting, including what method(s), by which entity and when.
-
I couldn't figure out the logic on two fronts. One, the lack of such identifiers in the POC, if that was the case. And two, the failure to note it in the summary of claims wherever it was listed by the claimant. The information is requested within the same question. The POC at Part 4H, page 7 of 12, it asks: What was the name and location (city, state, territory and/or country) of the organization that chartered or sponsored your Scouting unit, including the organization that hosted meetings of your Scouting unit, during the time of your sexual abuse (e.g., church, school, religious institution, or civic group)? I figured naming the CO would've been harder than the city, but I lived across the street from our church for 18 years. Kinda easy for me.
-
Same. St. Mary (or Mary's) and we met in the school, so it could also be the identified CO. I inquired about an assessment of correlation and was told none was done. Was hoping for city at least. I made the request when the document was first made available. Perhaps they did some more digging. Who knows. In my case, I clearly identified the CO with city, address, pastor, current name after mergers and every related person I could think of at the moment.

Chapter 11 Announced - Part 8 - TCC Term Sheet & Plan Confirmation

I understand. I would never suggest you or anyone of us has. Just trying to help, not pour salt. I trust you know my heart. I could've left it alone, but was trying to explain what I thought was meant, though not said. Perhaps my mistake. -

By “highest value” I don’t mean to suggest lifting time-bars. Sorry if I gave that impression. -

"Winning the lottery" is a common idiom to mean getting something unexpected and perhaps somewhat randomly. The random part - state of abuse and legislative action to open a SoL window - I think is operative here. Please, let's not turn on each other as survivors. Words matter, but I think this was truly intended as idiomatic and not literal. It hurts being in a closed state and it's hard not to feel slighted. It's not the fault of our fellows, however, and let's keep that in mind. Also, I don't think JLSS likes the 20k pay to play at all and will open up the entire TDP process to a highest value calculus. I don't know how that gets funded, but may I suggest by contribution of the debtors' council? 5% should do nicely. -

Right. Agreed. I hope you didn't take my opinion to disparage anyone who chooses to wear the pin. I try to be clear, but may have missed the mark. As above. That was my point and would be how I would do it. Have, hold, but not routinely display. I might do the latter if asked to speak or present as a BSA CSA survivor, which may well happen. -

I'm not sure who gave you the advice, but I don't think it was warranted. Good on you for going the extra mile. Based on the glut of anecdotal evidence, I come to the same conclusion. How many, I won't hazard a guess. But c'mon man. Does anyone think the tort machine with call centers and aggregators felt the need to get this 100% right on the front end? These intake folks received bonuses for making and exceeding their daily signups, for the love of pickled herring. We're not talking about selling popcorn, cookies or insurance policies. Head shaker. Yup. (See above.) Again, IMNSHO there is no need. Please don't. Welcome and all is well (in my tattered and torn book). -

This is probably the most sentimental hiking and camping location of my life. I did it with Scouts and otherwise. Along with two best friends, we did it a couple times. One of the two was killed in a head-on crash in the summer of 1976. He was a very close friend, fellow Scout and his dad SM across town. My friend died along with his parents and younger sister. My other friend and I returned the next year to memorialize him. I've not been back. Coldest bath I've ever taken was in Devil's Lake. -

I can't think of many places that even have highly knowledge people anymore. REI is the only one that comes to mind. -

Here's an odd thing about creating a justice and award metric based only on timing and geography. Timing (as opposed to time) and geographic limitations are malleable. By the flick of a pen a governor can sign a law presented to her by the state's legislature that says, "Our state is now 'open' for BSA CSA claimants who, on 2.18.2020, were not 'claimants' (as you say)." That what was not, now is. [*SWISH* & *FLICK* & *POOF*] States have opened since the commencement of the case legitimizing those who you rightly identify as previously SOL-barred. If the case drags, on I believe other states will open. If someone goes from Gray 3 to open before they appear before the Great and Powerful...[*POOF*] In similar fashion, I entered this case clearly subject to the defense of time-bar. Then, in April of 2021, I discovered an IVF implicating the SE who oversaw our LC and my Troop. [*POOF*] I have a tolling argument to defeat the time-bar defense. I believe fraudulent concealment factors into more cases than mine, the research just hasn't been done to connect the dots. I appreciate the attempt to paint the law, and this case, in black and white, but Shades of Gray it truly is, my friends. And, I would submit, it is getting more so. Grayer, that is, not shadier. Okay. Well, that is debatable, but a completely different topic for another post. -
Per the announcement in the link, the BSA settlement and the new YP Non-Monetary Commitments, I would say it's a very good bet the UMC will be one of the CO members on the Youth Protection Committee. If so, that will go a long way to create a tight protocol for their YP through active and ongoing collaboration with the BSA YP Executive and Youth Protection Committee. I assume everyone can access the documents I mentioned.

Is there a data picture illustrating any concentration of type(s) of sponsoring organizations across the cases? Do they center around law enforcement or first responders? The few I’ve read all did. Curious and not accusing or pointing a finger. Looking to answer a question.

I don’t do well wearing a mask, after having had adults put their hand(s) over my mouth in abusive situations. I didn’t realize how problematic this part of my trauma was until COVID. Good points. I prefer not to drive 9 hours to hike, of course. -

This is such a problematic area. Take a 60+ year old man abused at 8 while at a distant camp. He left left Scouting immediately thereafter may not now much of anything other than what happened to them and some of the setting. I've thought about this a great deal after I wrote something to the effect that, "surely you know where you lived, names of some of your fellow Scouts, and etc. That may be a small minority, it may be a goodly number. I really would like to know how many people manipulated this system, including attorneys and claims aggregators. They have abused the system and all of us abused as Scouts whether claimants or not. I take it as a personal affront and offense. I've thought about that a lot, too. -

It’s a fair piece, but nothing drivable is out of the question. (I am not flying in a mask, thank you.) I’m nine hours away from the point the map id’s as the trailhead. -

Not me. My GA Peach. I still sleep at my fishing shack with the heat off in subfreezing (inside) temps. Just bought a cot for a run at the screen porch when it looks to be sub-20 here tomorrow night. My bag is the same one I bought at REI in 1976. It's a gorgeous Camp 7. Been all around, including Okpik. It's had TLC since it was born. That is below 20 and not sub -20, to be clear and not to mislead. I'm not yet ready for that 40 degree dive again.
