  1. How many men earned Eagle after 18? 100 maybe? 200? That number will pale in comparison if girls are allowed in. It's not about girls and Eagle though. It's about having an outdoor program where guys can be with guys. Girls want Scouting? Join Venturing. Girls want Eagle? Fine let Venturing earn Eagle. Good luck.
  2. Magazine regulation. Reduction of hand gun availability. Just two of several left platforms regarding gun control.
  3. Well that's why Council showed the SM he was wrong because the GYA allows for non scout actitivies as a reason to explain lack of "activity" in the troop. I hope the council forced the SM and CC to sit through a 16 hour season on the gta and how to read it.
  4. The facts are that BSA was losing units AND members at a rate of 2-3% PRIOR to the membership chnage. Afterwards it's been 6%. There's a net LOSS in units and members. That's a fact. The reasons many COs have given was the policy change. Let's stick with what the facts are, shall we? Let's not obfuscate facts with supposition. By the way here's a good historical graph by year. http://www.scoutingforall.org/data/layer02/articles/2008010101.html
  5. In my Council they will confirm your status and then you pay your dues. Done. You get a Lodge flap.
  6. I must have missed the smiley face then. Always good to use those so people know you're joking.
  7. A bit unfair. We don't know the circumstances. But I'm not sure what she expected (or planned for)what would happen AFTER the contested EBOR. I certainly wouldn't expect any troop to lift a finger in such circumstances.
  8. @@desertrat77 Mike Rowe had to go to a copy of his signature since he got so many. You'll love his response for parents who gave him grief over it. https://www.facebook.com/TheRealMikeRowe/posts/1444289945581144:0
  9. @@The Latin Scot, agree we should encourage the young man. However, he should go in with eyes wide open that he's entering a hierarchical, low-paying career.
  10. Just make sure that's on your permission slip so Parents buy in and approve their kid participating. I've seen all sorts of injuries from stuff like this and Parents blaming after the fact.
  11. If he's mature enough to attend then yes. If not I suggest waiting.
  12. This makes sense. Still would like to see if preservation of a building would be considered "conservation".
  13. I stand corrected. Two packages now, $2100 and $2900, but you have to buy extra uniforms so that's another $50 per shirt or pants, so add another $200 on top, plus spending money and extras. So over 3k per person to attend. No thanks.
  14. Disagree. Since it's part of advancement it should have guidelines in the GTA.
  15. That's training not service hours. Helping the troop get the badge is not service hours that's fulfilling a role. Perform some service like trail clean up? That's service hours.
  16. We have a rule: If your kid needs someone, at camp or elsewhere, you are NOT the one to deal with them. So mom can come if she wants but she won't be anywhere near her kid except at meal time.
  17. Seems our district started a forum like this one. I'd be much more in favor of well organized info distributed there, and focusing the real RT on solid issues. Recent Example: The Meeting teaser was how a discussion on integrating Webelos in to your troop given the new requirements in both programs and their impact on the "usual" crossover timeline. What happened? PowerPoint from a DC about issues we already knew. No discussion. Felt like someone punching a WB ticket rather than what could have been a goodnindepth discussion. 70% of those who came left.
  18. Really? Paper? Since we're all using an online forum now,I assume using a google drive and printing what you need isn't beyond anyone. Why waste more paper than necessary?
  19. It's hard enough that getting fifth graders to adapt to camping without mom and dad. Couldn't imagine them doing it earlier. Why not just have the PARENTS of Webelos get more involved and deliver a good Webelos program? Make it more outdoors and more camping. My guys camped monthly for nearly two years. Weren't bored. It's all what the leader makes of it.
  20. Attending once a year is beneficial. It remibds to never waste an hour of my life on silly, useless things.
  21. You know what left will say if we had gun co from this would t happen. That's the excuse every time a gun is used.
  22. Media to blame lack of gun control rather than poor parenting in 3...2...1...
  23. Focusing on the outdoor program is key. Forget STEM. Leave that to the schools. STEM outdoors like the Philmont program makes sense. MBs that keep up with the times are okay but the core program should be outdoor focused.
  24. @@Adamcp, I don't mind those requirements. Frankly the knots should be Tenderfoot as they are basic camping knowledge. I have no issues with the cooking. MyPlate is a joke so my guys follow the pyramid still, but yes they make sure the meals are balanced. No hot dogs or other stuff that's warm and eat. They actually cook unless the activity plan requires something faster or to take with.
