  1. I think folks under 45 should be able to get out of this mess called Social Security if they want to. Folks under 35 should probably be excluded entirely. Folks under 35 have zero faith anyway that it'll still exist in 40 years, so quit punishing them for decisions made by their great-grandparents and promises made to their grandparents.
  2. Forget Andy Williams, this column makes you sound like Andy Rooney
  3. Tea Partiers are probably more an "Anti-Progressive Party" than anything else. This is why they're just as focused on primarying Progressive Republicans as they are defeating Democrats in general election. This is probably a relevant question considering Obama's recent outreach to the Progressive Party. I think the Tea Party mentality is here to stay as a counterpoint to the Progressive Party mentality.
  4. Maybe that's why govt. bureaucracies are so ineffective. Anyone there with any sense has a strong moral objection to being there.
  5. Tampa - Govt. workers do not vote against their "personal interests" very often. They know who they work for.
  6. Makes you wonder how he'd have turned out without the positive male role-models Scouting provides. /instigation
  7. There's a GOP candidate who's been married to the same woman for more than 50 years, has not had any "values" scandals, and has voted consistently based on principle in the House of Representatives for almost 30 years. Say what you will about Dr. Paul, he's without a doubt the man on the debate stage with the most self-awareness, history of morality, and consistency. I'm positive Santorum and Huntsman are also consistent, moral, self-aware men; but they just haven't proven to be such for such a long period of time as Dr. Paul has.
  8. momof2cubs - It seems you're taking my sentiments as hostile towards migrant workers with visas or legal immigrants. That's simply not the case. In reality, more work visas should be given because there's a demand for the labor that outpaces the supply of legally residing migrant workers. However, when someone comes here illegally, they begin a series of illegal activities. What's a shame is that many of those who illegally enter the country become identity thieves, and in many cases steal and assume the SSN of children. This is to prevent their ID theft from being noticed for a num
  9. The question is if he's applying for a visa, or the naturalization process. If he's just here illegally, crossing his fingers and hoping he doesn't get deported, then I think it is a duty to country to protect the sanctity of our borders and report him. It doesn't matter if he's Swede, Cuban, Chinese, or Canadian. If he's in the country illegally, he is violating our borders in a criminal manner that should offend every citizen.
  10. This is questionable, terrifying, but somehow I think it might be genius. Why would I say something in such poor taste is genius? Shock-value. It is shocking to look at this ad. My guess is that this ad not only draws your attention but holds it for a much great period of time. That means you're more likely to go to a website for more information than looking at some of the Nationally produced ads which are in better taste, but are pretty bland. Also, when you add it up, the pictures aren't really that grotesque. They're actually kind of humorous. If this makes people in th
  11. Our DE pulled the Event director for the most recent Camporee aside and asked him when he wanted to come turn in his receipts for the weekend. When the Camporee director said he'd just donate it so the District could show it made money on the event he got quite the lecture about how District programs should be self-sustaining and in the black, but not lucrative. Never quite heard that before...
  12. "A comment in another thread and board regarding youth and adults feeling uncomfortable in a more public area made me think about my own experience as a youth. At that time, we did not have separate areas for adult men and youth in public changing areas or restrooms and so on." I think a return to these more innocent times is a demand of the Occupy crowd, or maybe it was NAMBLA... in either case, I've really no objection to the more conscientious approach of partitioning showers as almost every camp has now done. While one may have grown accustomed to group showers back in the day, I stil
  13. The kids would know. The kids would point it out. I think it would potentially be a disruption of nuclear explosion scale for most units. It's mainly because this is obviously a polarizing subject, and polarization of a unit is never ever a good thing.
  14. My Little Pony isn't for boys and/or grown men? Somebody better tell these guys... http://www.neatorama.com/2011/06/11/bronies-adult-men-who-like-to-watch-my-little-pony/
  15. Here I thought Change meant changing the trajectory at which our debt climbs and then Hope we don't figure it out while he's still president that that trajectory is like handing our children a country with all the makings of Greece's crises. I cannot respect most Republicans and liberals, but moreso liberals for wanting to create a Huxley-esque world. Granted, the Republicans have a Ministry of Truth in Fox News and their taste for war is quite Orwellian. There are probably only three people I think would change the status quo by being in our Executive Branch; Gary Johnson, Ron Paul
  16. If the child was 6-11, no because the parents are pushing a controversial agenda and I would never allow anyone in a unit that is looking for controversy, and they're goofy for telling their daughter she can be a boy anyways. If the child was 11-14, it's a no because she'll still be developing as a female and while she may not be self-conscious about her new womanly development, it will certainly distract the boys. Boys of that age are shut down completely when near a girl, even if the girl thinks she's a boy. If the person is 14-21, a crew works just fine.
  17. Nike hit the nail on the head. Boy Scouts is for boys only because boys have a much different way of acting with each other than they do when girls are present. They become very self-conscious around girls because they view girls as very judgmental. This may be true and it may not be true, but despite its veracity it's the perception. I'd say girls probably are more judgmental though, based mostly on how they treat each other. (who hasn't seen the drama of a cat-fight interrupt their unit committee?)
  18. Can't we just let this thread die? 12 pages is enough for us to all realize there's no way anybody here is changing their mind. I'd say the rhetorical value was worth it continuing if everything worth saying hadn't been covered 5 pages ago already.
  19. Good to know your first assumption was that "The Council" was diminishing the rank of Eagle instead of assuming the reporter was misspeaking.
  20. The level of intolerance shown by those of the liberal school of thought for the freedom of association and first amendment in general is astounding. This thread is a great example of how persecution of morality contrary to the secular-liberal religion has truly become mainstream. I'm sorry Horizon, but I do not wish to buy your pseudo-inclusive morality.
  21. I respect the actions of a person who upholds his oath to uphold the Constitution. When our King decides that a chief executive shouldn't have war-making powers I'll call him President.
  22. Was I invoking Godwin's Law or merely acknowledging its existence by bringing up the nazi reference in the way I did?
  23. Emperor Obama is sending our troops once again into war with no Congressional authorization. It's a shame our country's CEO is acting with the war-making power of a monarch. Onwards to Uganda, in order to form a more bankrupt union. Here's what noted Republican Abraham Lincoln once wrote on the subject: "Allow the President to invade a neighboring nation, whenever he shall deem it necessary to repel an invasion, and you allow him to do so, whenever he may choose to say he deems it necessary for such purpose -- and you allow him to make war at pleasure. Study to see if you ca
  24. I think I've given sufficient answer to the subject in previous posts. If BSA wants to let CO's make their own choice that's fine, but my family won't be in a unit that chooses to allow homosexual leaders. I know there are those with loving monogamous relationships, but allowing them in sets the precedent of allowing those that are not. I think those that are not are far more damaging to the boys than a heterosexual leader who is not. You can counsel a promiscuous heterosexual or ask for their resignation. If you try to do that for a promiscuous homosexual, you become labeled as the
