thanks.... personally I would not count a non scouting camping trip i.e. camping with me and his sister for instance as a night for his merit badge or other award. I would use that time to give him experience with his firestarter. For physical fitness wihich he has partial and is currently doing his 12 week schedule I have suggested that he work with his Sensei to document that and other requirements of the physical fitness badge.

If a scout has notified his SM or merit badge counselor that he wants to take a merit badge and work toward that merit badge and the approval is given i would think that is the Auspice of the BSA. My 0.02 cents.. I think that there are very few boys that have made a choice in their faith at the age of 15 let alone 6. I think that that are even fewer atheists. Most of these kids are probably agnostic if you really pressed them for an answer. Joe I think the biggest issue is what is faith in God. Many confuse faith as Christianity.

When he was crossing over into boy scouts he was doing Karate, Cub Scouts and Soccer. I said he had to drop one. He chose Soccer because he said getting a black belk and eagle would me more. The kids that drop for sports let them Kids are starting to specialize earlier. Let focus on the kids that want to be scouts first

I am trying to find something for my daughter that is scout related and outdoorsy. She is a brownie. I went to the girl scout online store and under camping essentials there was nothing that was actually essentail. Does my girl scout daughter need a frame pack? tent? compass or is this optional for girl scouts? I am involved with my sons Troop but the girl scouts are a mystery.

I just reviewed the requirements for this pin. My son never did get this pin as he did not have the skills as a webelo to get it. As a boy scout he saw that the swimming merit badge is needed for many things so he wanted to work on swimming. This spring we ran from my house to the Y (1 mile run) and then swam with him doing 200 yards at least per session. He got his swimming merit badge this year at camp. If your son wants it give him the training and the time to get in the water, and earn the pin when he is ready. There should be no award givin where it is not earned.

KDD ok keep your pack out of uniform. The moment you decide that your pack / child will wear ascots, collerless shirts whatever is your decision. However if your pack dress differently than all other pack they will by definition be not uniform.
