So you cannot have a class for eagle merit badges? and the issue is that kids need to be outdoors to get these merit badges? We have an MBU at our counsel (merit badge university). where kids can take 3 merits badges over a course of 3 weekends spanning a month. These may be eagle required. one weekend is to alllow the scout time to perform the non-classroom items on the MB requirement. This is held at a school where facilities like a full kitchen are available, feilds for aviation, rockets, track for athletics. I dont think providing a scout time and facilities to learn is a bad thing. This is not required but it is made available. edit -- my son took all 3 citiznships last year. at the MBU. completed 2 still working on his third. it not like if the requirements are not met they get the badge.

OK i am very confused. are these entry ranges? e.g. boys 11-14 enter boy scouts or are these age ranges? e.g. boy enters Boy scouts at age 11 and upon reaching 14 then transfer to venturing.

let me clarify. I think you have a right to comment and dislike the t-shirts. i don't think you have a right to equate wearing of the t-shirts to the moral values of the ASM and the scout (PL) Which you did when you brought up morally straight in the OP. Calico Pennn is correct the context matters. wearing a shirt like that in the office would get me a fast trip to HR for sexual harassment. At the 5K you are seen as a support of womans health.

Lantern – Propane vs. LED
st0ut717 replied to CNYScouter's topic in Open Discussion - Program
I like the small LED lanterns with a solar charger and hand dynamo. they are light durable, cheap and effective at lighting a tent if needed. no heavy fuel no fire risk -
Iamchristian13. additionally many of the breast cancer awareness events do use not so subtle language as part of their marketing: http://b4bc.org http://www.spydersurf.com/collections/b4bc/products/b4bc-tote-bag additionally here is a link to 71 other slogans event use to sponsor and raise money for this research. http://brandongaille.com/71-catchy-breast-cancer-awareness-campaign-slogans/ Many people that participate in these events are directly affected by breast cancer. OK was it racy sure. but you seem to be focused on this perceived slight and not focusing on the good the kids and the ASM did. As the ASM he spends valuable time away from his family to support the troop. on top of this he is getting the boys involved in the community outside of scouting and devoting time to train and be engaged in this event. A breast joke MAYBE in bad taste but immoral? NO! If you are so upset next year have the troop run as a troop and you volunteer to run and lead the event.

As far as the t-shirts as you stated it was not done as a bsa activity or troop activity. As such it is not really for you to judge as appropriate or not. Bsa strictly forbids martial art If you extrapolate your logic scouts should not perform martial arts together. I see it as they did a good deed, improved the physical fitness and had a little bit of fun doing it. Next make the smoking SM run it. and do you good deed by helping him prepare for the run.

I started one conversation like this. "How are you reverent?" Blank stare from TF going for SC. "OK, what does reverent mean?" Blank stare from TF. "Alright. Talk to you parents about what you find reverent and let's talk again next week. Remember that what I beliveve might be very different from what you do and that's OK. But at the end of the day we both probably have that feeling that wow this has to be something more than me that made all this. What I want to know is what makes you feel that way and why. Also blank stares don't count."

Packsaddle but where would we find the answers? but seriously....I have been thinking about this a bit. One you didnt say where you where going. I could forsee a formal dinner where the host would expect the dults to partake as part of the culture.. France, Portugaul, Italy Greece for example. and there are others where any alochol if looked down upon unless you are in intimate company. e.g. a dinner with a host in Japn would have tea not sake. and others wher it it forbidden Saudi Arabia OK thats the cultureal issue.. but lets also talk about reality... You are overseas. you are weather you know or not and like it or not you are ambassadors for the US. If one of the scouters has too much because hey man it greece WTF could happen...dealing with a foriegn police is NOT fun this can turn a fantastic trip into a nightmare in an instant. Greek Ouzo is made with raw poopy seed oils and has mild heroin affect. (military cut us some slack on that test whew) just because you can....(and I am not sure can or cant not my expertice) doesnt mean you should. If you are being hosted for a dinner and the host offers acceppct one glass with dinner to show respect for that culture. otherwise abstain.

dcsimmons I have never stated that all scoutmasters or arms will do this. On the contrary i have stated that this can be an issue for some. how about we stick to what i actually said and stop making things up as you go along. Did you forget the part where my troop is mixed religuosly or in your wild attempt to politicize this did you selectively forget some facts. Being happy in a mixed religuos troop (Christain, Muslim buddist, agnostic) is the exact oppisite of bigotry and intolerence. but please proceed to redifine words to make them fit your what you want to say. Actually it is you that are sterotyping. you feel as if you know my entire world view based on my insistence that this is a bad idea. I was asked a few posts ago do i have an example of if this has happened in the past. Well no since this is a requiremnt that is not enforced yet its difficult to come up with past instances. Based on the the viciousness directed at me in the past few post is there any doubt that a scout that had the same point of view as me would be denyed rank based on these post from scouters?

This is not a learning process. This is a checkpoint per rank that say's before you advance lets talk about God. This can place the subordinate into duress as promotion may be withheld if the scout does not agree with the SM or ASM. You went from what is your duty to god to now we can witness to scouts. And this is done during a SM review for advancement. Persuading a scout to your faith with the threat of non-advancement is not education that is coercion. So if you dont have you faith you have a weak personality? Or maybe the kid will just do as you hope and not make waves just to get by and take it to get what they can out of scouting? Perhaps that SM or ASM should be open to other faiths.

dcsimmons, So since i disagree with you I am a bigot and intolerant of other faiths? How did you jump to that conclusion? (perhaps if you had quoted my full text instead of out of context) And if you do perceive that because I do not follow your train of thought or faith that my point of view is inferior; you kinda just proved my point. How did you infer politics into this? Are people of faith from only one party?
