1. Did you watch the training video KDD provided But more to the point. I think we can all agree it was in bad taste. but taste and morals are not the same. and the OP had linked the wearing of the tee s-shirt during a non-scout function as a moral flaw. to the ASM and a scout.
2. So you cannot have a class for eagle merit badges? and the issue is that kids need to be outdoors to get these merit badges? We have an MBU at our counsel (merit badge university). where kids can take 3 merits badges over a course of 3 weekends spanning a month. These may be eagle required. one weekend is to alllow the scout time to perform the non-classroom items on the MB requirement. This is held at a school where facilities like a full kitchen are available, feilds for aviation, rockets, track for athletics. I dont think providing a scout time and facilities to learn is a bad thing. T
3. When i was in the navy my chief had the patch. whenever he started busting on us I would look him in the eye and wave my fingers ala jedi. "Cheif do you like filtered or unfiltered?" Since the smoking area was a 30min walk we had peace for an hour
4. OK i am very confused. are these entry ranges? e.g. boys 11-14 enter boy scouts or are these age ranges? e.g. boy enters Boy scouts at age 11 and upon reaching 14 then transfer to venturing.
5. Ohhh sentinel you spoiled it lets let people at least freak out that this real for a few hours.
6. ScoutNut. yes but participation in charity 5k does not equal solicitation. Haveing the boy sell entry tickets would be solicitation running a a troop in the event is not. the BSA youth member would not be collecting monies or soliciting money.
7. HI BD thanks. yes participation in 5k where another charity is the benefactor scouts ARE alloowed to run and this is actually incourged when reporting unit activities under https://servicehours.scouting.org

Fun Run / Walk / Hike / Cycle

To report information about a project, fill out the following information and press the Submit Report button. 8. Hi could you provide a link to this reg? We are planing an at least 2 events that are banned' to help with the physical fitness of the troop. the way you state this is that we are banned from doing a 5k and a triathlon. I would like to see the original text. I tried Google but was not successful.
9. let me clarify. I think you have a right to comment and dislike the t-shirts. i don't think you have a right to equate wearing of the t-shirts to the moral values of the ASM and the scout (PL) Which you did when you brought up morally straight in the OP. Calico Pennn is correct the context matters. wearing a shirt like that in the office would get me a fast trip to HR for sexual harassment. At the 5K you are seen as a support of womans health.
10. I like the small LED lanterns with a solar charger and hand dynamo. they are light durable, cheap and effective at lighting a tent if needed. no heavy fuel no fire risk
11. Iamchristian13. additionally many of the breast cancer awareness events do use not so subtle language as part of their marketing: http://b4bc.org http://www.spydersurf.com/collections/b4bc/products/b4bc-tote-bag additionally here is a link to 71 other slogans event use to sponsor and raise money for this research. http://brandongaille.com/71-catchy-breast-cancer-awareness-campaign-slogans/ Many people that participate in these events are directly affected by breast cancer. OK was it racy sure. but you seem to be focused on this perceived slight and not focusing on the g
12. I wouldn't want to define reverence as a church or Sunday all the references you gave are christian based. I don't think I should be pointing the him toward a specific religion but to find reverence
13. As far as the t-shirts as you stated it was not done as a bsa activity or troop activity. As such it is not really for you to judge as appropriate or not. Bsa strictly forbids martial art If you extrapolate your logic scouts should not perform martial arts together. I see it as they did a good deed, improved the physical fitness and had a little bit of fun doing it. Next make the smoking SM run it. and do you good deed by helping him prepare for the run.
14. I have the high adventure BMI stands posted in our meeting area. You don't have to be in shape but you don't have to be able to do everything you want to either.
15. I started one conversation like this. "How are you reverent?" Blank stare from TF going for SC. "OK, what does reverent mean?" Blank stare from TF. "Alright. Talk to you parents about what you find reverent and let's talk again next week. Remember that what I beliveve might be very different from what you do and that's OK. But at the end of the day we both probably have that feeling that wow this has to be something more than me that made all this. What I want to know is what makes you feel that way and why. Also blank stares don't count."
16. We have our camporee this coming weekend. I'l ask during Cracker Barrel if the service Sunday is nondonminational and not christian
17. Packsaddle but where would we find the answers? but seriously....I have been thinking about this a bit. One you didnt say where you where going. I could forsee a formal dinner where the host would expect the dults to partake as part of the culture.. France, Portugaul, Italy Greece for example. and there are others where any alochol if looked down upon unless you are in intimate company. e.g. a dinner with a host in Japn would have tea not sake. and others wher it it forbidden Saudi Arabia OK thats the cultureal issue.. but lets also talk about reality... You ar
18. dcsimmons I have never stated that all scoutmasters or arms will do this. On the contrary i have stated that this can be an issue for some. how about we stick to what i actually said and stop making things up as you go along. Did you forget the part where my troop is mixed religuosly or in your wild attempt to politicize this did you selectively forget some facts. Being happy in a mixed religuos troop (Christain, Muslim buddist, agnostic) is the exact oppisite of bigotry and intolerence. but please proceed to redifine words to make them fit your what you want to say.
19. This is not a learning process. This is a checkpoint per rank that say's before you advance lets talk about God. This can place the subordinate into duress as promotion may be withheld if the scout does not agree with the SM or ASM. You went from what is your duty to god to now we can witness to scouts. And this is done during a SM review for advancement. Persuading a scout to your faith with the threat of non-advancement is not education that is coercion. So if you dont have you faith you have a weak personality? Or maybe the kid will just do as you hope and not make wav
20. dcsimmons, So since i disagree with you I am a bigot and intolerant of other faiths? How did you jump to that conclusion? (perhaps if you had quoted my full text instead of out of context) And if you do perceive that because I do not follow your train of thought or faith that my point of view is inferior; you kinda just proved my point. How did you infer politics into this? Are people of faith from only one party?
