Facts About Atheists according to Pew
King Ding Dong replied to skeptic's topic in Issues & Politics
DC, I think you will be hard pressed to find an instance of Pastafarians demanding the removal of religious symbols. Quite the opposite. Christians tend to get very upset when FSM displays are erected. One example of Pastafarians being persecuted by Christians. http://www.examiner.com/article/pastafarian-holiday-tree-rejected -

Cow Tipping MB ? -
Keep looking. There are troops where uniforms are expected. Flags are normal but not required for the pledge because every scout has one on their sleeve. Obviously not in this case. Boy led is going to be difficult to find when the max age is 13. 14 and on to Varsity scouts, correct? Some level of chaos is to be expected with boy led. Webelos was adult led so more orderly. A bunch of 11 year olds together seems more like Webelos 3 to me than Boy Scouts. Hopefully you can find what you are looking for within LDS. Would you ever consider looking outside LDS ?

For some reason when you insist on equal time for the FSM the former usually gets chosen. -

How is requiring a territory to conform with US law if it wants statehood persecution ? Just because a religion has certain beliefs and practices does not mean it gets to ignore US law. Should we allow honor killings ? Marriage of minors ? slavery ? All in the name of religious beliefs and practices ? Has the US Government persecuted religions in the distant past ? Sure, history is full of examples. What current persecution does it practice ? -

Back in July a specific example of Christian persecution was requested of Stosh multiple times and none was provided. I doubt it will happen now. The fact remains it is not Christian persecution at all because if you replaced the word Christian with any other religion the same principles would hold true. What many Christians fail to realize is that Christianity is unlikely to remain the majority religion in this country forever and ever. The separation protects us all from the imposition of say Pastafarianism, Islam or Atheism on our future generations. -
recruiting new blood into pack committee

The open invitation never seems to work. I think it should still be put out there so people know the position is open and they can't come back at you complaining how you hand picked everyone. -

Americas Mood Map: What state should you live in?

Mars or maybe Titan. -
I was told by my UC it is a big deal when a unit folds under a DE. Sounds like he was trying to resurrect the unit and then dropped the ball.

Need ideas for Scoutmaster Roundtables....
King Ding Dong replied to WestCoastScouter's topic in Open Discussion - Program
Amen! That's what turned me OFF to roundtables. Dry 30 minute slide presentations on poisonous plants, etc, with mile long URLs on the screen. That's what you DON'T do!!! Good point Frank. If you do PowerPoints or provide urls, make sure you send out an email or such with the resources covered. You want them focused, not taking notes. Our cub RTs generally have breakout sessions with a facilitator for each one. My problem is I can't go to all of the ones I want. Discussion is smaller groups of about 10 is great. -
Interviewing for DE position....what should I expect?
King Ding Dong replied to ProScout's topic in Council Relations
I know our DE mans cub camp all summer. He gets 24 hours off once a week. That would be very tough with a family, or any relationship for that matter. I have been told a DE needs to make his recruiting/fundraising goals or is out of there. Not easy with declining enrollment and a weak economy. One thing I always want to know is why the position is open. -

New MOU between BSA and Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod
King Ding Dong replied to AZMike's topic in Issues & Politics
I first brought news of this policy change to the forum's attention a month ago here. http://www.scouter.com/forum/issues-politics/392828-religious-co-policy-modification One of the major objections over the New membership policy was it appeared that a CO could not deny membership to a youth over sexual orientation alone. I can only assume the same same applies to all religious COs. The BSA cannot turn around and tell the Catholics or Methodists something else. Fred, I do not understand your objection to this. It roles back the the May vote so any CO can deny membership to the unit for pretty much whatever reason it wants to. They just can't force the BSA to remove them completely from Scouting. So what we are left with is Local Option Lite. No gay leaders, gay youth restricted to units that will accept them. Is there some other interpretation ? -

Pack I don't have an answer it is a very complex subject. One that needs discussion and one the right refuses to allow. -

I meant your proposal. BSA manage program structure and materials, CO manage membership and leadership. Sounds like local option to me. -

Good point Fred. Question is that any different than the original Local Option ? -
New MOU between BSA and Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod
King Ding Dong replied to AZMike's topic in Issues & Politics
I had a discussion with my UC last night and it seems to boil down to Local Option for all religious COs that only accept members of their own congregation. I don't know how many of those there are, around here there are not many. What will be I interesting is how this will be applied to those that do allow in members of other faiths.
