My troop is going on a weekend trip this weekend. Projected temperatures are going to be upper 20's and lower 30's. Any nuggets of wisdom you'd like to pass on?

Beavah, in my State, (Ohio) we tried to pass a bill creating a Committee to do redistricting. It failed 30% to 70%. It was Issue 2 this year. You can look it up if you'd like.

I hope the beat down the Republican party ends the tea party, allowing more moderate Conservatives like myself to reenter the party.

Hopefully this child doesn't lose his ability to trust adults. Part of the beauty of Scouting is having adult mentors outside of your parents to turn to for help or advice. Good luck with this situation, and Seagull posters are always welcome in my book.

Did your co worker catch their Troop number? This is not tolerable. Reading this thread made my stomach roll over. The last thing the BSA needs is to inject itself into electoral politics on accident.

I've seen mostly Romney (Republican) ads and Sherrod Brown (Democrat from Ohio) ads. I'd say the coverage is balanced in my case.

I think with Patrols ultimately Boys want to hang out with their buddies, and all the other Patrol ideas come after that.

I like the EBOR Process, references and all. We are preparing Boys for life as adults. Part of that is job interviews. They will need to sit down with someone they haven't met and they needed to submit references for their job application. I think it'd perfectly reasonable in my opinion. I enjoyed my Eagle Board of Review and none of my references had a problem writing me reference letters. Yours in Scouting, Sentinel947.

While I was a Scout, I was in a troop of a similiar size. I'm sorry to say I think getting about half your Boys to attend a trip is systemic. There are SO many competing activities for Boys time, you simply aren't going to get a majority of them to attend functions. I don't think there is anything wrong with your troop or it's program. Yea seriously? Comparing a girls Christian Youth organization to the Hitler Youth? Lets keep our heads on straight here. There is NO comparison to the Hitler Youth and the Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts, or American Heritage Girls besides the obvious that they wear uniforms and have children in them. Basement, nobody is forced to sign a statement in the AHG. Either you join, and accept the statement, or you do not join and do not accept it. I don't have an issue with the AHG. Like the Boy Scouts, I'd prefer these kind of youth groups be open to all children, but these organizations have a constitutional right to set their membership standards as they see fit. I've only met one family with children in AHG. They are nice family, and their girls are very smart and motivated. Organizationally the AHG is a great program match for the BSA. I think most intelligent people dislike the BSA's policies, but don't hate the Boy Scouts or the Children who are members. Whether or not this a PR move by Obama hardly matters. He just made that young Scouts day and gave him a really amazing story to tell for years to come. Classy move Mr. President!

Southern Ohio is doing well, just a bit of rain and snow. Northern Ohio is getting swamped with Snow, as is West Virginia and other Mountain Country round these parts. Praying for those on the East Coast.

I mean questions of Why like "Why does the Earth rotate?" "Why does the sun rise?" "Why is the sky blue?" Those are why questions answered by Science, but I do see your point.

BSA24- thank you for clarifying your opinion a bit. I'll add there is one positive aspect to Young Earth Creationism( I'm not one) that science does not deliver. Religion comforts and assures people. Whether you believe it's fake or not, part of life is living contently. When people are too content in their religious( Or any idea) to accept the advances of Science, we see the conflicts we are having today between the Youth Earth people and the rest of us. Science uncovers how we live biologically, how we function(again biologically and mentally), how the world around us works

I'm glad to hear some of our British Scouter's takes on it. I don't know if there has been an equivalent American figure. Truly a shame.

The Boy Scouts, the Youth Sports team or even a Media Outlet, is immune to child abusers and molesters. In this case, a very famous British Broadcaster with the BBC- Jimmy Savile was abusing children for decades. This is a worldwide problem.

I wear the Arrow head for COH only. Otherwise it may get lost or damaged.
