  2. Times change. Remember when your SM one-liner was "Being a scout looks good on your college application, Earning Eagle gets you a pay grade bump if you enlist." ?
  3. From FB A SCOUT IS TRUSTWORTHY. The picture taken below is of the Rifle Range shelter at Camp Mountaineer. Sometime between Sunday night May 14th and last night, May 16th, an individual or more likely individuals broke into our Rifle Range building and stole one of our Sentry Safes (crap - RS) filled with 10 .22 rifles and 4 pellet rifles. Here is a description of the guns stolen: Savage Mod Mark 1 G 22 Long Rifle single shot, birch stock with serial numbers: 1171782, 1280641, 1280644, 1280645, 1280646, 1280647, 1280648, 1280649, 1280650, and 1280653. Each rifle was
  4. Welcome to scouter, com My understanding, BALOO training is for Cub Scout overnighters. An overnighter may or may not be a campout, e.g. museum overnighter. Usually Cubs just visit a camporee during the day, while Webelos (older Cubs) might camp overnight with a Boy Scout troop.
  5. Welcome to Scouter.com Is the old SM available? How many Assistant Scoutmasters are there in your troop?
  6. A tone of liberation from the LDS scouts?
  7. MORGANTOWN Local Boy Scouts need the public help to find a dozen rifles stolen from their camp. Mountaineer Area Council Boy Scouts CEO and Scout Executive Jeff Doty said that volunteers were last at the shed at Camp Mountaineer on Sunday evening, May 14. By the time another volunteers returned May 16, they discovered someone broke in. The suspects took a safe that had 10 22-caliber rifles and four pellet rifles, Doty said. The rifles were Savage Mod Mark 1 G 22 Long Rifle single shot, birch stock with serial numbers: 1171782, 1280641, 1280644, 1280645, 1280646, 1280647, 12806
  8. I dunno if only the web had the ability to have central places, call them hubs or portals, where you could start and then easily navigate to the desired information and as a backup the whole site accessible to and indexed by common search engines... We seem lost, but let's look at a map. http://2zcwe21sj5ak1wpzl92omr3u.wpengine.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/architecture.pdf http://itroadmap.scouting.org/
  9. My concern is while those scouts would remain enrolled for say a year, they would have less time for Scout activities with now LDS youth activities. So if it is a LDS hike or campout, allow credit to Scout advancement. Not unlike allowing all the double and triple dipping that goes on with service projects among school, scouts, and church.
  10. Sleepover? Let's keep the outing in Scouting - a summer bag.
  11. Okay of that 61,000, as an "encouragement" to continue in Scouts, should the BSA accept non-Scout hikes and campouts towards advancement?
  12. Getting back to topic, how could the BSA persuade these 185,000 boys to re-register in another troop? As alluded in other topics, could the BSA credit non-Scout outings towards advancement?
  13. Fairly common. A major advantage with a heated cabin is the ease of drying gear after a day's activities.
  14. Hah. This just came up again in the Eagle Project Workbook, page 13 Logistics Check with your council service center to determine if a Tour and Activity Plan is required. How will you handle transportation of materials, supplies, tools, and helpers? Will you need a Tour and Activity Plan?
  15. So my limited understanding, Varsity Scouting was created by and for members of the Church of Latter Day Saints who now want to leave it behind. Why not transfer it to them as a lovely parting gift? http://www.scouting.org/scoutsource/BoyScouts/Resources/ThreeWaysVarsity.aspx https://readtiger.com/wkp/en/Varsity_Scouting_(Boy_Scouts_of_America)#History Does anyone have any non-Mormon membership numbers for Varsity Scouting? Can the BSA drop the program? From wiki, 2013 membership https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Varsity_Scouting_(Boy_Scouts_of_America) 62,902 youth 22,915 adults 8,
  16. How large is your pack? "Communication and organization were a huge issue last year" - my experience this is usually a people issue not a tech issue. We have phones (land and wireless), texting, email, faxes, FB, a website, apps, FTF meetings, XBox Live, ....and our communication and organization was still bad.
  17. Yet the BSA has repeatedly made this mistake over the last 40 years. The inconvenient truth, no matter how you change the program to accommodate, any replacement demographic sees the core demographic dropping out and questions why should they join.
  18. Supervision To meet the requirement to “give leadership to others,†your Scout must be given every opportunity to succeed independently without direct supervision. The Scout’s troop must provide adults to assist or keep an eye on things, and your organization should also have someone available. The Scout, however, must provide the leadership necessary for project completion without adult interference. http://www.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/510-025.pdf
  19. I think that boast disappeared around 2008, after the NESA hired Harris Connect to send out postcards to all Eagles. They got a disappointing low (30%?) response and not all positive.
  20. Mormons and Scouting explained in 5 graphics http://www.deseretnews.com/article/765694087/Mormons-and-Scouting-explained-in-5-graphics.html
  21. So the United Methodist Church will have the largest percentage of scout membership? Maybe there will be an increased number of 13yr Eagles in LDS troops and camps sold in Utah.
