  1. Report said he was on scene for nearly two hours. I hope post trauma counseling is available to responders. CBS This Morning had a video interview, Eagle Scout Hero.
  2. As suggested by several members, the side discussion about using "moderator" in a display name was moved to Forum Support. That discussion was then locked per @NJCubScouter .
  3. This topic is a relocation of the misuse of forum display name discussion, specifically calling yourself a Moderator when you are not.
  4. Seeing your first snow is always magical.. well for the first couple of inches.
  5. You are NOT now nor have you ever been a moderator on this forum under any of the various display names you have created and used: jblake, Stosh, Heretic, Lurkin. A trustworthy scouter would not claim to be what he is not. Scout Law. A person with common sense would not claim to be what he is not. Pending moderator review.
  6. Software feature. I don't know if Administrators can change those default title names across the board or the necessary number of posts for those titles.
  7. Well if you could only participate in one forum, I would say scouter.com is not a bad choice.
  8. Scouter.com members choose their own display names, assuming that name is not already in use in this community. What names you had on other forums are irrelevant. Members can also change their display name. "You are permitted to make 3 changes in a 30-day period." Just a matter of going into Settings and changing your Display Name. As I recall, one member changed his scouter.com member name to Lurkin (sp?) earlier this year for awhile. I don't know why. Changing names causes confusion in the community. Hope this helps.
  9. His merit badge advancement perhaps goes against old scouter wisdom, but his results and actions speak louder. And he just turned 11.
  10. 10 years old, 5th grader Tenderfoot Scout saves a classmate choking by quickly using Heimlich maneuver. Check out the video. Well done. http://www.khou.com/news/boy-scout-saves-classmates-life-in-the-cafeteria/499874098 Scout Salute.
  11. IMO, at our local council summer camp, the tables flip. The young staff and New Volunteers rule and the Old Guard's sphere of influence is limited to his troop's campsite.
  12. Well in this case, the scout's scoutmaster wrote a letter for the discipline hearing. Milton, Mass Dec 13, 2017 A 13yr old Boy Scout who mistakenly forgot his folding knife (2-inch blade) in his backpack and then showed it to friends while on his way home from school was suspended for eight days following a disciplinary hearing Tuesday with the school’s principal and vice principal. “I confirmed with the school yesterday they intend to put this on his permanent record and use verbiage that uses the word ‘weapon,’ ” said. his mother “He is a male of color. ... My son doesn’t mis
  13. I'm more worried about NNRE, Net Neutrality Reversal Event.
  14. Scouts are like squirrels, they forget where they bury things. Schenectady, NY "A Statue of Liberty replica that was erected in Liberty Park by the Boys Scouts in 1950 is looking for a new home. Schenectady was one of six locations in New York that had enough interested and enthusiastic Boys Scouts to order a statue. Due to construction in that area of State Street, across from the former YMCA, the replica has been put in the city garage on Foster Avenue for safekeeping. But Mayor Gary R. McCarthy expects it to have a new home soon.... The replica is about 8 1/2 feet
  15. @an_old_DCAccording to NPR (link below) Sydney Ireland has been involved with scouting since she was four years old, when she began tagging along with her older brother to Cub Scout meetings. Since then, she has been an unofficial, but enthusiastic, member of Troop 414 in Manhattan. " Over the years, Sydney's activities with the troop have included camping trips, hiking, archery, ice climbing and, yes, knot-tying. As a city kid, she has learned to cherish a connection to the outdoors and she credits the Boy Scouts for helping to foster it. But although the local troop has welco
  16. So if I understand, a double standard would be avoided the den gender assignments were as follows: X=female, Y=male ? Leaders Den XX or XY XXXXXX YY or XY YYYYYY
  17. @Back Pack your post was edited. No need for derogatory references. Don't confuse awards and achievements. Your achievements are not worthless nor are their worth determined by awards assuming you receive an award. And no one can make your achievements worthless. cc: @NJCubScouter @Sentinel947
  18. Ok then, this topic is about "soft launch" of registering girls in Cub Packs. There's been some good information provided by a variety of members. Please stay on topic. Thanks cc: @NJCubScouter, @Sentinel947
  19. 3 adults needed for a girls den? I have seen fewer adults at a Girl Scout troop meeting.
  20. This has been on my mind. Maybe a well-trained, trusted elite ranger scouting group that can go on outings , service activities without adults.
  21. My understanding, Ms. Ireland wants admission into Boy Scouts now so she can meet all the same Eagle requirements by her 18th birthday. Time is not on her side.
  22. It bothers me when real scouts are not used in photos, like the fake Eagle Scout with TWO Camping merit badges on his sash who appeared on the back of merit badge pamphlets. Those girls can't be Cub Scouts yet, right?
