I don't know why I don't like pancakes. They're just different from waffles. Maybe it's bacause the waffles are crispier on the outside than pancakes. Thanks for the suggestions.

What about Universties that have historically significant churches or chapels on grounds available to all faiths? And how about the chapels at the military academies? UC Berkeley has a respected divinity school as do many of the Ivies. In trying not to say what you mean, you often say what you really don't.

Maybe? I don't really like pancakes, so my husband makes me waffles every weekend. I thought it might be nice to get him some kind of waffle iron for Cub camporees. I like waffles because you can eat them with your fingers with fruit and cream on top. I'm familiar with the clam shell pie irons, and I've seen similar things made as waffle irons.

Does anyone have experience with a camp waffle maker? How'd it go?

I meant no one was commenting on SFGate.com, the SF Chronicle's online edition. The comments section is usually pretty jumpin'.

It must be a beautiful day in CA since hardly anyone is commenting on today's article, unlike yesterday's.

When the colonists first pushed west over the Appalachians, they wrote that the trees were spaced so far apart they could drive their wagons between them without cutting a road. Compare that "virgin" wilderness to the overgrown clogged up mess we see today. Etchings and paintings of New England before the Civil War show many areas cleared for farming. Today those areas are overgrown with dense forests. What we see today is not as it has always been. Responsible logging of Scout camps can reduce fire danger, windfall, and, God forbid, bring in some much needed cash (aka filthy lucre) to rebuild and improve the facilities. As for the camps given to the Scouts in the name of "preservation", many gifted lands, collections, and endowments are increasingly being used in ways contrary to the gifter's intent, with resulting lawsuits. However, that intent must be weighed against modern needs. Scouting needs and legally deserves as much leeway and flexibility as anyone would allot any other charitable orgnization. As for the Seattle article, I have to wonder how much anti-Scout bias the editor tried to filter out, or added in.

San Francisco Chronicle jumped on the bandwagon. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2009/01/29/MNAK15FFTA.DTL The comments are "just precious."

Oh, I should pitch for Camp Powhatan, Blue Ridge Mtn Council, near Galax, VA. (Hiwassee just doesn't ring too many bells.) My son's going back with his old troop this summer. He better get his watch off the bottom of Claytor Lake.

We discovered the steel wool and lantern battery trick in sixth grade science period. Mr Cobb kept glaring at our little cabal. We kept doing it until he confiscated the battery. Lesson learned, no harm done.

If you are going to brand/mark car bottoms, then you should have a pack rule that undersides should never be painted. Sad that these things have to be done.

Bravo, ScoutNut and Tia!!

Isn't the DE the first level of "Professional Scouter?" Someone who gets paid to wear the uniform by the Council. I would worry less about who the DE works for and more on with whom he works well. If he or she can't relate to the District Committee and thier folks and the unit leaders, he is sunk as an effective DE.

What I really need are official kevlar nylons that won't run. (There really is a skirt. Go look at supply division: http://www.scoutstuff.org/BSASupply/default.aspx?cat=01RTL&ctgy=PRODUCTS&C2=UNIFORMS&C3=TROUSERS&C4=&LV=3

And once again they forget the Boy Scout skirt.

1) Too many cooks in the kitchen. Two or three boys should be able to prep and cook for eight to ten in sixty-ninety minutes on propane stoves to include clean up. Cold meals only require the laying out of ingredients and each Scout makes his own. (Assuming sandwiches and chips for lunch.) 2) Whoever is head cook is CHEF. The kitchen is his, and he is in control. If a boy is not part of the cooking team, he stays out of the way. 3) The kaper chart is king and established before camp. If the PL can't or won't enforce the kaper chart....

At our house, the parent who is most able to go (not already going to another meeting, not on a business trip, not trying to help another child finish a project, etc.) goes.

Is it legal to lube the axles with graphite spray?

Tia, You're already on the right Journey.

The last time I sat through a banquet that long I threatened to stab someone with my fork. My Tiger would leave, loudly inquiring as to where the exits were. I don't get why the B&G has evolved into this excruciating experience. Can anyone tell us when this happened?

I can not tell you how my faith in mankind was completely ruined when I saw my first human cadaver, and it did not have red arteries, blue veins, and yellow nerves (latex paint I suppose) like the specimens in HS biology. Thought I was looking at really dry bar-be-que. Doesn't PETA know that in some countries, eating the kittens is perfectly OK? What do they call crustaceans?

I'd rather be in a troop where almost every Scout Eagles because they are enthusiastic and enjoying the program than a troop where it's a special honor because the boys drop out from boredom.

We always loved taco salad in GS. The only thing that had to be cooked was the ground beef, so no help for your vegetarian. It is something that everyone can fix just like they like, and it has plenty of oppurtunity for vegetables as well as roasting corn or making Spanish or dirty rice. For breakfast, oatmeal can be cooked fairly plain and other things added in the bowl. As you can guess, I like to make a base and then have everyone else add their own thing.

Eagle Scout Question regarding required hours
Nike replied to actipis's topic in Advancement Resources
I don't think paying for labor is any different that Mom and Dad paying for all the materials, etc. And, I also don't see what is wrong with a Scout seeking funds from community groups. (Please don't give me the "earn their way" speech. It's just my opinion.)
