  1. While I am not sold on a sweater, I do like the idea of a cold weather uniform top. Currently I wear a BSA fleece pullover and when it's warmer, the nylon jacket. The wool jac-shirt is on my someday list. How about a nice, heavy wool or flannel uniform shirt?
  2. Man CA, that's some markup! Has anyone thought about a play? You could fulfill several merit badge requirements writing, acting, building, selling, promoting your play. And it is something different than the same old, every group does it, car/wash, etc..
  3. I'm with Ed. While I can overlook flatulence, "fudging requirements" I find intolerable. You teach the boys to cheat and get rewarded. She needs to go. It is better to hurt HER feelings than the success of the den/pack.
  4. Does your unit have insufficient leaders OGO? Maybe dad doesn't like camping. Maybe there are a dozen more kids at home? Maybe his job isn't 9 to 5 with weekends off? Maybe his reply to you was not what he intended to say? When I was a Scout, no mommies or daddies ever went with us, just the troop leaders. It is what we volunteered for. We have (or make) the time, some don't or can't. I Scout when I can, but family and work come first. No work, no house. I have more important things to do, but I like Scouting so I spend the time I can. Plus, I am of the opinion that too many mommies and daddie
  5. The Scout Law and Oath are easy to remember if you repeat them enough. But if you have trouble, record them onto a cassette tape and play it over and over and talk with it until you have memorized it.

    RED Jackets

In short Nate, No. Page 4, Insignia guide, 'Jackets and their Insignia'.
  7. Yeah ASM162, I had that movie. If I remember, Ace Frehley only had one line in the entire movie?
  8. Yeah Moxie, we've got the same book! Next time I'm on Johnson Rd. I will buy a new one. And sadly, the admonition was whispered in my ear almost 24 years ago and I lost my ordeal pamphlets (as well as most of my sanity)!(This message has been edited by local1400)
  9. As a teen I was a cook for two summers at my council camp. It is very hard to feed 200 to 300 people 3 square meals a day but it is possible. We made ham dinners, meatloaf, shepards pie, turkey dinners, chop suey, spaghetti, baked beans(real, soak all night, bake all day),pancakes, omelettes, oatmeal, french toast amd on and on. Bread was baked from scratch every day. Cakes and sheet pies were made, pudding or jello for lunch desserts. Of course with each meal was the appropriate sides.I dislike the cafeteria style of eating- reminds me of school too much. We had tables seating ten and ate fam
  10. I was interested in the "Presenting OA sashes" thread and that was restricted.
  11. Well it is early still, but so far my predictions are right on. My man Edwards is faltering though. Gonzo, sorry about Fred.
  12. And since he wore a neckerchief he had ready access to a bandage!
  13. Getting back to what SWScouter posted, if everyone eligible for election CAN be elected, why hold an election? Why not just have the SM say "Whoever wants to be OA, raise your hands"
  14. Thanks SouthWest. My only OA book is the 83 printing of the 77 book. I knew there was a ratio of eligible vs. the number of names on the ballot. Time to get a new book.
  15. I've got to say Calico, reading about a SM dictating OA elections is horrible. How can everyone nominated be elected? Let's say you've got 5 eligble Scouts but your allotment is 2 nominees, how is that resolved? Why would the SM "control" certain outings as punishment? I think a SM flogging is due.
  16. Well here is the report from the Granite State you all want. Guiliani was a last second no-show at a rally(?) for him last week. Romney is from Massachusetts and those of us who live in Bostons "playground" of palacial vacation cottages can't afford him as Pres. It seems for the Dems, a 3 way tie exists between Clinton, Edwards, and Osama. All have campaigned extensively. And why shouldn't NH get the 1st Primary? We are, after all, one of the 13 original colonies (9th to ratify the Constitution, on June 21, 1788), and is the birthplace of Daniel Webster and Franklin Pierce. If I had to pick to
  17. I have a 100% cotton LS shirt that is darker colored than the poly/cotton blend. They need ironing to make them look good.
  18. I'm cool. I'm stylin'. I wear neckerchiefs. And I confess, I have a problem-over 30 in my collection, and I want more.
  19. This is starting to sound like the Presidential wannebe's commercials I see on the t.v.
  20. I have Merlyn on my ignore list. If everyone else ignored Merlyn, maybe he would just go away and we get discuss something useful around here.
  21. Yes. And it has been for a long time. That doesn't mean when Johnny asks mommy to sew the patches on, they consult the handbook.
  22. Maybe an instruction sheet showing proper patch placement and uniform regulations from the IG could be included with each uniform shirt sold. End of the guessing game.
  23. Ok Jon, finish the song: 'If I go there will be trouble, but if I stay there will be DOUBLE, so come on and let me know, should I stay or should I go? This indecision's killing me...'
  24. Well we've been around this mullberry bush til I'm dizzy. An Insignia Guide (BSA Item #33066, around $5.00) is a worthwhile investment and is light enough to be carried in the 3-ring binder containing your SM handbook (at least the latest version!) QUALITY UNIT EMBLEM: Right sleeve, position 3 (4 inches below seam or, if National Honor Patrol Award is worn, touching it). Only the most recently earned Quality Unit emblem may be worn. GW, the 'Members should make every effort to keep their uniforms neat and uncluttered' is in the paragraph under the heading EXCESS INSIGNIA. Keeping your uniform
