  1. Thanks Local, Fred may have some time to bounce back in SC and Super Tuesday.
  2. Here's part of the problem: The mainstream media will talk up a candidate and all of a sudden, that candidate sees a rise in the polls. The media hyped up Huckabee and he got a rise. The media hyped up Romney, he got a rise in the polls. Since the basically ignores Richardson, Kucinich, Thompson, Biden, Dodd, and the rest, the rest don't get air time and they go unnoticed in the polls. Every senator looks in the mirror and sees a president staring back. But, the electorate does not like electing senators, we like people who govern like governors and mayors. Too bad both parties
  3. BrentAllens structure looks pretty good. I also like ASM915's idea about mixing it up faith wise. G
  4. Ahh, Festivus, a joyous time of year for all. Happy Festivus and Happy New Year. Gonzo
  5. Even more scary is that young people actually think Leno and Letterman are telling the truth when they crack jokes.
  6. I've been busy folks, sorry I missed this one earlier. If I recall correctly, JFK was almost accused of having a red phone to the vatican to find out what the Pope wanted. Carter is Southern Baptist, born again, a Sunday School when not swinging hammers and monitoring elections. Evangelicals would probably say that Catholics are not "Christians" because Catholics are not "born again". Catholics would disagree and say that they are Christians. Would there be as much fuss if a candidate were a Quaker or Pentecostal? How about a Menonite? I think some people are afraid that
  7. Here's a case where I agree with Packsaddle on a political thing. It's inevitable that a politician will TAKE credit for good news and DEFLECT bad credit for bad news. Imagine if the opposite were true in this news story: Teen drug use up, Bush to blame." Remember, someone tried to blame GWB for Hurricane Katrina actually being directed to hit New Orleans. During Bill Clinton's first campaign for president, he complained about how we had the worst economy in 50 years over and over again. Two days after the election, news reports were out that Clinton gets elected with an economy
  8. GW, I think you're off base. Scout Nut has it right. It's not what you think about "exposure" and how someone else "deals" with it. it about the family and what THEY want. About 10 minths ago, one of the dads in the troop dies tragically in an accident. Everyone went to the funeral home, but my son didn't approach the casket, however, my son was there to support his friend. I didn't push him to do anything.
  9. Lisa, Ask your son if he would go to a lock in. Just because some of don't like them, doesn't mean the boys wouldn't.
  10. In this case, I hope the Cradle of Liberty council finds another home, perhaps one thAt is donated to them OR LOW COST and that the current building remains VACANT!!!!!!!
  11. All of them!! OK, not realistic, but rembember, many hands make light work. Some will be ASM's, committee members, newsletter writer, transportation coordinator, helper at the fundraiser, etc.
  12. When signing the application, the applicant could ask "what does this mean?" and someone could explain it or give the applicant a copy or refer the........., C'mon, that's where someone says that applicant agrees to the rules, G2SS, etc. and that the applicant believes in God is straight and so on.
  13. Kudu, WB or any other component of BSA ain't gonna be what is was back in the 1960's. When I went to WB, it was patrol oriented. I attended Scoutmaster Fundamentals, also outdoors mostly) and patrol oriented. Today's IOLS is outdoors and patrol oriented. WB today is supposed to be patrol oriented, right? Now, here's where I'll over-state the obvious: Troops are made up of patrols. SPL is the "senior" boy leader. SM guides the boys. If the SM attends the training and this next part is key - the SM must apply what he (she) learns in the various courses. Then if the boys apply wh
  14. I think I agree with Gern and Beavah, and FWIW, I almost completely DISAGREE with Kudu. WB should be Boy Scout leader specific, 2-3 adults WB trained per troop, more for larger troops. Brownsea, JLT, NYLT, LMNOP, XYZ, PDQ and other alphabet soup courses are available for Patrol Leadeers and SPL's. The troop should be run by the scouts, but WB trained leaders give the proper guidance and training to them. WB, in my opinion should be viewed as the ultimate scout leader training experience. The guided discovery lends to the mystique. The course should be outdoors as much as pos
  15. To WB21C'ers, It isn't that you're less, we're (WB pre 21C) better, it's two different courses. Some element from the old course are in the new course, some are not. That's all.
  16. Brent, How right you are. Besides, I think one of the two American journalists was from NBC who actually died from a deep vein thrombosis, a blood clot that travelled from his thigh to his a lung and that's what killed him. G
  17. I don't know that I'm all THAT mean. Make it a great day!
  18. Yeah, you're the real deal! I thought I was old........... until we met! Then I found out what old looked like. Now you know I'm kidding. You're just an ol' softy deep down inside, aren't you? With a little effort, I bet we can get forum members to snd things for Santa to deliver. Is there a PO Box we can send things to? If not, I have a PO Box, then we could meet half way if you'd like. I'll go to Chik-Fil-A and see if they have some things I can get for you. Their local marketing manager is one of my patients. Gonzo
  19. As I'm originally from Chicago, I have something in common with New Yorkers, I ain't PC! I heard on some radio network news the other day, that mall Santa's are being asked to say Ha Ha Ha instead of Ho Ho Ho so they don't offend as don Imus did. C'mon, it's what santa says: Ho Ho Ho - Merry Christmas. One of my friends wishes folks a happy Ramahanakwanzmas so he doesn't offend anyone. I really think political correctness has gone too far. THEIR attempt to not offend anyone is offensive by itself.
  20. Packsaddle, Who ever decided on December 25 had a 1 in 365 chance of getting it right. It's the day we agree on.
  21. Thanks Packsaddle, Goes to show you the kind of bias in the media. This story will never get air time on "regular" TV news. I hope your cousin returns home safely. G
  22. BTW Packsaddle, I would feel comfortable being the hooded executioner. If I were governor, the wait on death row would be as long as it takes to clean off the chair from the previous guy. But then again, why waste taxpayer money on the expense of clean up. I think in the end, this discussion proves that morality is absolutely relative.
  23. Wow, This is so convoluted, yet so simple at the same time. *** Warning ***.....*** Warning ***.....*** Warning *** I'm about to agree with Merlyn (again ) Societies already had rules in place. If Beaudreaux and Thibodeaux are chasin' you in da bayou, take the air boat, not the truck. Don't keep it, just use it to get away. If the gators get them, consider adding it to your insurance policy. Murder is wrong, self defense has been deemed "justified" but must still be heart wrenching for the person who defended his life. Though not a criminal, he must endure a lifetime k
