  1. A couple of things and I am doing this from memory , so you Popcorn Kernals correct me if I am wrong. 1) All of a unit's scouts turn in forms via their unit and the unit gets credit for the sales. Once in the system and prizes and cash are distributed to the units it's a done deal and out of the council's hands. 2) This is a unit matter, specifically CO and committee, and the pro should have told her such. 3) If their is a problem with this leader, the CC needs to be informed ASAP since they need to take care of it. Whether it's pursuing her wishes, readjusting the units use of
  2. GW, When you have a retired MCPO as Dist. Comm., and the uniform inspections points have decided who won the district trophy in the past, they get nit picky. Heck he makes them raise both legs to make sure that the scouts don't do what one patrol did in the past. Since not all scouts had official socks, they shared the socks by having everyone wear the right foot.
  3. Chikara, Basically about the position of the POR and trained patches and the new socks. The inspector wanted the trained patches were they go on the ODL uniform, and folks had them as shown in the flyer. Also the Thorlo's put the BSA logo in a really poor spot: on the foot. Scotu had to take off his boots to prove they were official BSA socks.
  4. Chikara, Do you know when the new insignia control guides and/or inspection sheets come out? There were some minor issues at a camporee's inspection this past weekend. Thanks
  5. BW, The lady and others do have a point, once official uniform always official uniform. So if she has the official skirts, she can wear them. Please remember that until recently Supply did sell blue and green skirts, and culottes for the ladies that went with the yellow or tan blouse respectively. Most female leaders didn't wear them, trust me I hated inventorying them as they never sold at my store, but we kept them in stock per national.
  6. District patches are not required uniform patches as they are considered temporary insignia. Don't know about the other stuff you ask since I don't work for supply anymore, nor do I have a new uniform. However I've been told by those who do have the new shirts that the button on the right pocket is useless as tempoary insignia with loops fall right off. One person I know did modify the pocket by by making a slit onto the pocket cover and sewing the button onto the pocket proper. His OA flap covers up the modification.
  7. I'LD look into the various Webelos Activity badges and come up with events based on those. Or you can give them a taste of Scout activities like basic pioneering. One of my old troop's tricks was divide the Webelos amongst the patrols and let the scouts teach the webs basic lashings. We then had 'Chariot races" as described in the last Green Bar Bill handbook. We've also had guest speakers, specifically the local swat team or search and rescue team come and give a presentation.
  8. The original post was about a ribbon. I'm the one who mentioned a support the troops patch.
  9. crazy idea so bear with me. Since you are trained in the basics, have you done WB21C yet? if not, 'git r done," make contact with others that are willing to help solve problems, and make training a ticket item. We've had soem problems with the district fallign intot he same pattern, withthe same peopel doign the same things, basically for the past 10 years. We were suffereing. We got a bunch of Wbers who are getting things done. Are they making mistakes, sure, btu it's a learnign experience for all and the kids are getting into the programs they comeup with.
  10. Not to change the subject, but I am in reference to district support, are the Venturing Roundtables successful? Need to know and some advice as I was asked this weekend to be a venturing RT Commissioner. Told them I would have to think abut it since I am trying to back away from Scouting commitments for a few months. Plus I will be a TC DL next year, and know I will have my hands busy with that;)
  11. Usually it's your larger councils that have a Venturing Exec. My council use to have one, except it was back when Venturing was still Exploring. She really didn't do a great job as the DEs still had to administer to the posts, and when it did change to Venturing the crews. When she left, the council never replaced h
  12. I'ld wear my yellow ribbons on my right sleeve to show I'm a Quiet Curlew of a Brownsea 22 Troop Seriously though if you want to wear the yellow ribbon, wear it on the right pcokect as temproray insignia. I'ld wish I got one when I saw them, put they sold out like hotcakes. One LtCol. had IF/GWOT support the troops patches made as temproary insifnia, with the money going to the units he was affilaited with. Thus it not only showed support for out troops, but also was a fundraiser of sorts for the troop and pack. At least in my council, those units that depend on military personall
  13. AnaMarie, 1) RETURN THOSE PANTS they are guarenteed so if there is a problem, return them. Also Supply division needs them fro verification of problem purposes. 2) Write a letter to you scout shop manager. While they may not be able to do much, they do forwatrd those up the chain of command. At least that's what my old boss did. Yep I've had problems with the fabric and stiches on a pair of scout pants before. national took care of it.
  14. My advice with CS pants, go up 1 size. They have elastic in them and the size stated is withthe elastic fully expanded. By getting them "big" it will last alittle longer.

I may get some flack here, but her it goes; why not wear a pair of grey trousers, white shirt, blue blazer and some type of patriotic tie with your Eagle medal. FYI the Professional uniform, aka dress uniform, is the above except you wear one of the professional ties,i.e. "barber stripe," CSEWC tie, the current 'power tie" etc.
  16. BSA did away with time requirement for the lower rank at the same time they did away with Skill Awards, approximately 1990. In my neck of the woods there is still a lot of people who think time requirements should be reinstated. I've been on BORs where one Scout went from Scout to First Class in one night!
  17. My troop had a bead necklace, or totem, that we usd to keep track of various things, i.e. Totin Chip, religious retreats, campouts, summer camp, 50 milers, etc. So everytime you did one, you got a bead. I wore 3 of them. Anotehr thing besides the cloth patch to get them would be the leather ont that goes on their packs. I still have the pack I did 2 of my fifty milers with and it has that patch on it still.
  18. The old WB course did have continueing education credits attached to it. With all the changes that occurred with WB21C, I wanted to make sure that CEs were still given asI would get some credits for my job. When I asked this question this past weekend to a course director, i was told " When I asked regional they said they would get back to me on it and I haven't heard from them again." Hopefully it is certified for CEs or wil be shortly.
  19. Bonner and Pamlico may not be in the moutains, but they are a blast. best thing is, they've impvoved both facilities within the past year and are more improvements are on the way. Bonner has NCS in May, and the OA are going otu of our way to make it the best camp in the region!. We're #1...17
  20. Don't know about the current ed of the fieldbook, but the 2nd ed. had lots of great info for both Scouts and Explorers. Look through the book and you see pics of both groups of young men, in uniform, throughout the book.
  21. Here are my recommendations. 1) Youth protection, available onlione 2) CS Fast Start, available online 3) New Leader Essentials 4) Webelos Leader Specific 5) Outdoor Webelos Leader 6) Roundtables. Congratulations on your position, good luck with the cubs, and thank you for makign a difference.
  22. The complaint I've heard is that it's not fair to the scouts running the events, since they miss out. Yes there is some of that, but I know of some scouts who are bored with camporee. not many, but a few older ones. What we did last year was get one of the Venturing crews involved in running an event.
  23. While not the SM, when I left my old troop, they threw me a surprise going away party. They had pics of me through the years there, they had some of friends and scouts who've moved on there. they roasted me with some of the things I did as both a scout and leader. Really touching and memorable. One thing i'ld advise if you do have a surprise party, call the person near the last minute and get him to bring something to the meeting that will cause him to be a few minutes late. They tried to get my mom and then girlfriend to delay me, and it didn't happen. I showed 15 minutes early as usual
  24. Also contact other scout musuems as they may have extras that you need. DO NOT RAID PERSONAL COLLECTION!!!!!!!!
  25. Youth lead units do tend to go faster in advancement because the youth are doign the work all the time, so requirements are easily met. Furhter they tend to have more motivated Scouts. In adult lead units, the advancement is scheduled, and scouts tend to get bored. But this is my observation. As for leaders getting too into advancement. I'm Guilty I know that everytime I see some a scout, especially the ones I know and "pick on" I always bug them about when they are getting their next rank and or palm. My advice is 1) let the scouts go at their own pace in advancement. You will b
