What you're talking about is an out of court agreement which prevents the bankruptcy from going into Chapter 7. Once a bankruptcy is accepted into Chapter 7 everything gets arranged into categories, then ordered in those categories for priority of repayment. To be clear, once a bankruptcy judge authorizes Chapter 7 it becomes a bankruptcy of winners and losers by order of importance and age. As an example, if BSA were forced to file Chapter 7, and if it was accepted for Chapter 7 all secured debts/claims get absolute priority over unsecured, and older debts against those secured assets get priority. Using any BSA national properties with a mortgage as an example. Those mortgage lenders get priority before everyone else immediately; unconditionally, they just go to the top of the pecking order to get restitution on that debt; those mortgage lenders could potentially consume all of the value and leave nothing for lower prioritized secured debt holders (like 2nd or 3rd mortgages) and unsecured debt.

No ... I think if there is a cause for cultural intransigence it is actually the inability of any other Scouting organization to get off the ground due to inferior programming. As much as there are issues, and as much as detractors point out all of the flaws of BSA, BSA is the best Scouting program in the country. Especially so is the relative generalness of BSA compared to it's niche competitors. My X just hates BSA and did not want our kids to join, but when we looked at all of the competing programs there really wasn't a competition. BSA is not perfect, there is room for improvement; however, BSA is lightyears ahead of every other Scouting organization in America. BSA doesn't have a monopoly against competition, there just isn't competition; it's like BSA is MLB, and everyone else is bar leagues.

Major Change in Chartered Organization Relationship
Tron replied to gpurlee's topic in Issues & Politics
Am I understanding this correctly? The UMC will still provide space to meet, and expect access to provide religious services, but the COR is now at the Council? Does this mean the LC's are going to have to have district, or council committees of CORs? -
That makes sense, sucks that your daughter doesn't get more summer due to band starting so early.
-
So why are you do something different?
-
Why would she care if the BSA stops to exist? The overwhelming majority of the program is volunteer and local based and something new without legacy issues will rise out of the ashes. I would say the reality Silverstein not wanting BSA to die is not about BSA but about the reality that the vindictive get the BSA at all costs BS that surrounds this case is vastly ignorant of the fact that if there is no pound of flesh to get, everyone gets nothing.

So the BSA told the police there was nothing to see so the police just dropped the case?

I was stationed there for over 4 years, Watertown is basically the heart of the anti-military hate machine. Locals hate the US Army and anyone that has anything to do with it. Since the father is on deployment the mother should reach out to the spouse of the senior officer involved with the FRG and request JAG and CID assistance to get her Scout back into school.

I think cold starting or restarting Scouting is WAY harder than jumping into sports late. The bureaucracy of Scouting is SO massive, there are so many ins-and-outs to learn about the process; there are hordes of personalities to learn, and learn how to manage.
-
So this might be the path forward? Not 1, but many former Scouts iterating through a media campaign. It would allow BSA to hit all of the demographics by rotating people through, and the process could shift around to hit people who are survivalists but also those who took what they learned into become civic leaders (someone wanted that to be a part of the choosing process), and titans of industry.

So if this is patch 476 does the value scale down from patch 1 like other collectables?

This boggles me a bit; I know there is the "not wanting to relive the trauma" aspect of giving a detailed verification; however, if many are suspected to just take the $3500 why is the majority of this thread, the case, and the debate about the money instead of all of the other factors of the settlement?

@SpatulateThere are 2 issues, the first is you have to identify if the "family in question" is the problem or is it something else. The other issue (sort of pointed out in OP) is the repercussions; are you afraid because your unit is not doing things correctly and the ejected family might report you? These issues always come down to, if the unit is following the rules, and doing things to the best of its ability, removing someone from the unit for bad behavior should not be a threat to the unit.

If you know so much, why don't you put forth a name? You have not, because none exists. I just looked up @GrubKnotsuggestion and most of Creek Stewarts classes are gimmick and media based to make revenue through the un-initiated. This is a tough nut to crack; who do you find with bonafidas that is young and energetic enough? Looking back at what the UK did, does BSA just go "screw it, the person isn't teaching so we just get a young face with energy and the best resume possible?

I get the whole difficulty in absolution. I was unofficially told that the overwhelming majority of liability that my council holds was inherited from two other councils that folded and their geographic area was "given" to my council. So as far as I can tell when a council folds under strain/lack of finances/lawsuit/etc ... the council that takes "ownership" of the geographic area becomes the responsible party or such.

Good points ... except ... I have to touch on this Bear Grylls thing. There really isn't a young American who is competent enough in survival to be a media facing brand ambassador. Could we find someone the same age or younger than Bear Grylls that has more competency? Absolutely. If we wanted to go the route of a brand ambassador like the UK we actually need an older survivalist. Older survivalists are just better, more experienced, more proven, and IMHO better at explaining why you do things the way they do it and why it leads to survival over death. That being said, any truly competent survivalist that BSA national could get would constantly lock horns with the national staff over our programming. Who should BSA get as a brand ambassador? Sadly Les Stroud is Canadian and out of the running ... Dan Wowak? Everyone else that I can think of is significantly older and more experienced.

My Council borrowed from the Council Trust (Lucky to have a Council Trust, a different legal entity.), paid those funds to BSA National to cover the Councils liability, and is liquidating assets to pay back the Council Trust within a 3 year time limit. So as far as I know, the local council here has been legally found absolved and is now just trying to reorganize and save Scouting in the local area.
