This past summer my son and I made a goal to hit all 9 roller coasters at Six Flags. We did it and and went for round two, after the first coaster on round two we were not feeling so well. Don't try that at home

If the military power and abuse structure is what turns his crank then Scouting is probably not the best fit for him. If he is thinking of a military career I would at least arm him with the tools to research their system of justice. If he in any way thinks the scales are tilted against him on the civilian side, the military side is for lack of a better word Nuts.

Excellent point guys. I can't recall any discussion of boy buy in here. I suspect it is going to have to start with the k-3 levels and grow from there. They aren't going to have the funds for some big national marketing campaign to create demand among the 6-12 grades.

I don't know about the tenting alone thing, but shouldn't the Scouts determine who the SPL going to be ? My money says they reelect him.

The cub leader training in my district covers all positions. Most of us end up in at least a couple by the time its over. Either an all day saturday class or two enening classes. Maybe yours will have breakouts for each position. I would go and ask all the fuzzy questions we banter about on this board and report back. Should provide some fun. (Summertime pack award, family camping, wolves and knives, DRP, complete uniform or none at all, hat indoors, den chiefs, how long past June 1 to earn rank and electives)

If they are not an "American" I would just substitute the word Scout or use whatever they call themselves. I also believe that being "American" is more of an idea than a legalistic citizenship term. The idea is best embodied in the Declaration of Independce. Anyone who supports those ideals is welcome to stand with me as American.

My unit is in Todd Akins district to give you an idea of the mentality around here. Business as usual. If someone wants to talk about it, we can talk about it. It is one of those things the adults loose sleep over not the Scouts. We had a few parents huffing and puffing in the Pack last spring, interestingly they are still around.
