  1. I don't see why you would be surprised. I'm not Christian, but have a least half a dozen bibles at home, maybe a whole dozen. "Concerned" family members send them as gifts, people trying to convert me send them as gifts, and its just plain easier to politely accept them from the Giddeons (sp?) on the corner at their twice yearly hand out than to have to stop and engage in a theological discussion, especially when neither of us are going to change our positions. But it's cheaper than a bag of popcorn and all profit. What a great headline "Scouts Selling Their Bibles to Pay for Scouting"
  2. Your right. But then next time they sit down they have bubble gum stuck to their uniform pants.

Do you think you might be able to get $9 for each one ?
  4. Simmer down, International Talk Like a Pirrrrate Day is not until the 19th. Didn't you catch that all December recharrrrters had to pay the $24 ? That's the big issue here. I rrrrreally don't have an issue with the $9 (I do, but for other reasons). The question is do we point fingerrrrs at National, suck it up and sell more popcorn, drrrrop events, pad a couple of events or trrrry and spin it best we can ? My currrrrrent feeling is take it out of FOS this yearrrrr unless I see a betterrrrr idea. I know the Pack will not make a FOS contrrrrribution this yearrrrr. This was a rrrrreal boneheaded move on Brrrrock's parrrrt.
  5. Great that you had so many events this summer. Good job. To second baseball, as long as they attend one event each month they are good.
  6. The problem I have with his comparison is it is worthless. It is like the old BMG music clubs where it only cost $1 for 12 albums. Wow sounds great, sign me up. Then they send you a record and a bill for every month for $17. I have come to the point I really don't care how big a unit is, what I care about is if the parents are going to support the unit and participate. I will take a Den of 2-3 scouts with parents that participate over a den of 8 and make me a babysitter. I am working on a detailed cost estimate to hand out to each parent before I accept the application. What can the DE do about it, fire you ?
  7. I have to agree with BD here. I have seen several Den Chiefs who do nothing constructive. In theory it is a huge position of responsibility, but in practice not many scouts are willing to put the time and effort into it. Being a true DC is probable more work and shows more leadership than most Eagle Projects out there. Transportation is a major hurdle and as is the unreliablity of most younger scouts. In many troops by the time they have the maturity do actually do the job, they don't "need" the POR or are being pulled in so many directions with other activities that they just won't put in the time. Unless you find that remarkable youth that is very outgoing and highly motivated all you are doing is adding another scout to your den and creating more work for yourself.
  8. Yep the completely out of site thing tends to lead to fire issues. Last May we did that and the SPL was creating invisible fire on a picnic table by lighting Germ-X on fire. Singed the table a bit.
  9. Go ahead BD send the email. Make those guys at National earn their new inflated salaries and retirement packages.
  10. Is this just a regional difference ? I don't know any 10 1/2 year olds in May of their 4th grade year. My oldest was still 9 at the end of 4th grade. He wasn't 10 1/2 until February of 5th grade.
  11. Three to five silver devices for the camping badge, that's impressive. Each silver device is for an additional 100 camping nights. Wow. 300-500 camping nights, that's a camping machine. All under the auspices of the BSA with over half his patrol. There should be a platinum device for that.
  12. Instead of asking what kind of tree you would be HR pukes will start asking what kind of duct tape you would be.
  13. And you are a grouch, with no sense of humor. I agree with you that was long for IOLS, but hopefully allowed for some more advanced skills.
  14. Lol. I meant what type of duct tape you are.
  15. The day I need an app to do what I should be able to do myself is the day I'm useless to the troop. It's a useless app anyway, but get lots of press attention.
  16. I thought JTE mentioned 3 summertime pack activities in the past, 2011 maybe but i cant find the score card. Regardless you are correct, it does not now. Just outdoor activities. My old pack had a Pack Trainer who was a JTE fanatic, I think it was because the Council gave a 20% discount on camping with gold. Oh boy, a Challenge. I will appoint one of my loyal subjects to call National. . Hop to it BD. He likes to do that. I suppose "since it just doesn't matter" we should just do away with the entire cub recognition program.
  17. I would if official BSA websites had anything.
  18. Welcome DuctTape, Are you a traditional silver/grey or a progressive zebra/neon ?
  19. What do Klingon warships have to do with Eagle Projects ?
  20. You seem to know a lot about this. What is your take on this statement by BD, "OWL is not required to take a webelo den camping....." Earlier in this discussion ?
  21. Agreed. What would you do about the Webelos who joined scouts in June after he graduated Kindergarten and now has graduated 4th grade and fulfills the requirements ? What pin do you award him ? Another Webelos Pin ?
