Another unconstitutional measure. -
In Western New York we tough out the Klondikes. We've never canclled one. We sleep in tents in some mighty cold weather like that. Use a lot of hay!

I get what he is saying. -
Only the Patrol Leaders and the ASPL would report to the SPL. All the other troopo level positions report to the ASPL.

Its still bad art. This is what Western Culture has come to?

Because people like you are destroying the country we love! This isn't the same country it was 50 years ago. Pat Buchanan said it best I think when he said, "Millions have begun to feel like strangers in their own land. They recoil from a popular culture that is saturated with raw sex and trumpets hedonistic values. They see old holidays disappear and old heros degraded. They see the art and artifacts of a glorious pastremoved from museums and replaced by the depressing, the ugly, the abstract, and the anti-American. They watch as the books the cherished disappear from the schools they attended, to be replaced by titles and authors they never heard of. The moral code that they were raised to live by has been overthrown. The culture they grew up with is dying inside the country they grew up in."

SA, if you read what I wrote I said the "ideal" was noble . . .
-
True, but at at least Republicans acknowledge that smaller government is a noble ideal(Though they often fail to achieve it).

The 18th Century Scottish legalist, Sir Alex Tyler wrote something which I think is again relevant, "A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largess of the public treasury. From that time on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury, with the results that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.... The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been two hundred years. These nations have progressed through this sequence: from bondage to spiritual faith; from spiritual faith to great courage; from great courage to liberty; from liberty to abundance; from abundance to selfishness; from selfishness to complacency; from complacency to apathy; from apathy to dependence; from dependency back again to bondage." -- Sir Alex Fraser Tyler

So now Bush gets blamed for losing other people's integrity! Haha In never ends. Let me try: I think George W. Bush caused Hurricane Katrina.

To bring back the good old States Rights argument again . . . Aren't education, libraries, drinking water all state or local responsibilities? Once again the federal government (both parties) are rather horrible at everything they do. Thats why the Republicans (generally, or at least so they claim) want it to do less.
-
So why do we have Amtrack then? Why do we subsidize it? I don't use it. I really don't know anybody that does. Our taxes are going to keep paying for it though. No wonder why the nation is running into bankruptcy. But thats another topic for another day . . .

I find it hard to blame Republicans for our nations debt, even though George W. Bush has not shown the wisdom of fiscal conservatism. The all time biggest federal spending programs were all put in place by Democrats years ago. Social Security, Medicare, Medicade, etc. Recently Bush vetoed the State Children's Health Insurance Program (a rare exercise in his fiscal restraint) and he was attacked for not caring about children. This program would have cost many billions and could only have forced a raise of taxes. I see all the Democratic Presidential canidates proposing huge national health insurance program - thats a sure fire way to bankrupt our country even more. And to blame the Republicans for the falling American dollar? Please! How about commodity prices, such as copper, gold, and oil which have helped the Canadian dollar to skyrocket (Canada is a great exporter of such resources) - the US dollar has not fallen at nearly a comparable rate to other foreign currencies. In reality, all spending by all both parties is simply financed mostly by . . . the printing presses of the Federal Reserve - turning paper into money - and this will only be acceptable as long as others take our fiat money. It is a shame that a middle class mother can not stay at home with her family anymore and when she says how she would like to is attacked as insensitive.
-
funscout you make good points. It seems that your question is a little off though in my humble opinion. Though tax raises usually hit the middle class as well, the Democrats try to limit on the burden on their voters. They usually focus their message on raising taxes on the wealthy. Its a class warfare argument. They never raise them on the poor (many of which don't even pay taxes). That is what irks me the most. Not the taxes themselves (which I agree are fundamentally bad), but the way some, especially Democrats try to play social experiments and pick and choose who to raise taxes on and who not to. Flat tax all the way.

I would say Family Life MB. One requirement could be discuss sexual morality with ones parents.

Setting rank/age requirements for SPL, others
TheScout replied to gwd-scouter's topic in The Patrol Method
Have the SPL need to win a majority of those voting to be elected. The worst performing person getting knocked out of each round of voting. That is how our troop always did it. -
To play devils advocate - Can't the CC hold his signature from the applicaton? Can't he ask the advice of some of the committee members and some ASMs?
-
I am not sure Bush''s "poodle" got cast out too quickly. He stayed on for many years while being hated by large numbers of the Labour Party. I doubt an American parliament would force a leader out much quicker. Congress could stop the war in Iraq very quickly by pulling funding but it does not.

Under a parliamentary system one would still have to elect a president so we would still be arguing. Likewise a "deadhead" Prime Minister could likely be more powerful then a President since he would effectively control the legislative branch as well. The British Prime Miniter has more powers than the President could ever dream of.

California could easily play kingmaker by choosing either nominee that it wanted.

The electoral college contains the problem of election errors. When a recount is needed it can be done is just one state. If the elections were based on a nationwide popular vote, a recount would have to be done throughout the country. That would be a nightmare.

A Scout is Trustworthy: I wonder about a US Senator...

Scottteng, you are right. You are right, the 17th Amendment was a bad idea. -
Yes, it would be a shame for public schools to promote morality. We see where that has led our society.
-
So. It is still not in the Constitution. It was made up.

I think I agree with Oak Tree. I could not care either way. BrotherhoodWWW, to be accorded an honor or position and given a badge for it and wearing it is standard. To agitate for more patches for greater recognition seems to be in poor taste.
