  1. I figured I would plug the website that I have set up for my pack. I am trying to make it fun and useful for the cubs and parents. Would a few of ya'll mind checking it out and tell me what you think? www.geocities.com/cspack56 Thanks in advance, Tim Dyer
  2. Tiger Cubs do have a seprate motto. But the abide and learn the Cub Scout promise. I guess they did that to start incorperating the tigers more into Cub Scouts. Tim Dyer UC
  3. I believe that if you use the Den Cheif, they are useful. But if you look at them like another boy, they will seem to be in your way. Den Cheifs are very useful to each den, but it is up to the Den Leader to make them part of the program. Plus it helps the boys to see someone in Boy Scouts. This will also help with Webelos to Scout transition. This year I will be trying to get a Den Chief for each one of our dens. Good Luck Tim Dyer UC
  4. Were you answering me Bob? if so, do most UCs were these patches? Tim Dyer UC
  5. I am getting a Uniform shirt for my job as Unit Commisioner. This shirt will only be used for this position. My question is: Do I, or is it acceptable, for me to put my OA flap patch and square knots on my uniform shirt? I will not have my unit numerals since this is strictly a DIstrict position. Thanks for the input. Tim Dyer UC
  6. My suggestion, Have the scouts wear their uniform to and from the camp. Once their, they can change into other clothes. This is what we do when taking our pack camping. Tim Dyer UC
  7. First let me start by saying...I am back after a short absence. While focusing on new boys who have never been in scouting before is fine, I would suggest working with the area packs. Most pack don't really ever see their troops, so the boys don't really know what the boy scouts do. We are really starting to work on our Webelos to Scout transistion. 1 Troop meeting is good, But the 2nd year Webelos NEED to go camping a few times with the Boy Scouts, and visit the troop meetings more than a few. Work on Pack to Troop communication and involve each other and I will guarantee You
  8. Feathers, I am in need of a adult XL or LT for a scout. He is a tall lad.We are having a Court of honor soon and then off to Summer camp. Can you help? Thanks in advance, Tim Dyer Troop & Pack 56
  9. Here in Tennessee, we have the Cumberland Caverns that allowed camping in it. I had a blast going when I was a scout. They even take you spelunking. Tim Dyer
  10. How about each and every one of the Scouters that have given freely of thier time to lead and teach the boys that will someday lead us. While it is important to remember the well known heros and leaders....let us not forget those who do it on a day to day basis such as each one of you that is active on this board. Tim Dyer
  11. Quixote, The Cub Scouts do have the Law of the Pack and the Cub Scout Promise. As for ideas..... Repeation. You could incorperated props to help them along the way. The How To book provides several ideas for many different projects, games, etc. I think I saw a pection on promise and law...but I may be wrong. Get with you Unit Commissioner and get ideas from them as well as other packs at the roundtable. Good luck, and Congrats on leading the boys, Tim Dyer
  12. The nieghborhood cleanup and such would count towards the award. Any project that benifits the community, as far as the environment goes, counts. When I was a cub, we planted about 100 pine trees. The wolf den in my pack just cleaned up an outdoor amphitheatre from trash and debris as part of their project. For the most part, it is up to the Cubmaster and other adult leaders as to what counts, but if you have any questions, I would ask your DE ot unit Commissioner. Tim Dyer
  13. Feathers, I another thrread, you said you have uniforms availible for boys in need? I have a scout who needs a Boy Scout shirt. He is a tall boy and would probably need an adult XL or adult LT. If you have either, could you e-mail me? tdyer56@yahoo.com Thanks, Tim Dyer
  14. Here is the link. I found it at the Virtual Cub Scout Leaders Handbook. Great resource. http://www.geocities.com/Yosemite/9152/cub-tracker.html#download Tim Dyer Pack 56
  15. Coffee Lady, I applaude you for taking on the task of SM. As a new Unit Commisioner myself, I would suggest that you contact you District Executive and ask who the District commissioner is. Then Contact them and request that you get a Unit commissioner to sit down with yourself and the rest of the adult leaders. They can give you tips and resources to make sure everyone is on the same page. Then have the unit Commissioer visit with the PLC to do the same and really get them excited about the patrol method. A good Unit Commissioner will visit and check on your unit at least every other m
  16. That's okay Bob. It me happens to also. Thanks for the input. I have discussed it with my den parent and we will finish meeting this month and then take a break over the summer except for the planned event at the pack level. This will give me a chance to focus on my other positions and get them "down" before picking back up for fall. Tim Dyer Pack 56
  17. I have been approached about becoming a unit commissioner. I was wondering how involved a position it is and what is expected. Did you serve as a unit commissioner? Is there any place online I can look at the "job"? Thanks for all your help, Tim Dyer Pack56
  18. Does anyone have any idea what the "job description" for what the unit commisioner and district commisioner do? Or is there some place online that I could find this info? BobWhite hope you have some info I could use. Tim Dyer Pack56
  19. I believe you got that title from "Follow Me, Boys!" Am I right? That is my all time favorite movie. I cannot count the times I have watched it. Tim Dyer Pack 56
  20. Bob, I have always had my top button fastened while wearing a neckercheif. Is this incorrect? Even as a scout, I believed that it made the uniform look better. When I wear nothing around my neck, it is unbuttoned. Also when I wear the Bolo. Tim Dyer Pack 56
  21. Bob, My screen name is Tdyer56 not Tyler56. Everyone else, Thanks to everyone about the ideas on activites, but we have activites planned. I need to know about actual meetings. Is it wrong to have meetings through the summer for my den?(This message has been edited by tdyer56)
  22. I have a question. Do most or your packs have meeting such as pack and den meeting through the summer or do they shut down? We are planning 3 events as a pack. However, I was told that we were not having ANY meetings...pack or den. I really disagree with this. I believe that we need to keep up the pace during the summer to keep the boys interested and involved. I am planning on having den meeting throughout the summer. That way, when the boys get "bored" they have their next rank to work on. What do most of you do durng the summer? Thanks, Tim Dyer Pack 56
  23. Can anyone tell me how long it takes for a unit to be listed on the NetRoster? I "signed-up" my pack 2 weeks ago and still nothing. I have tried to contact the staff here at Scouter.com with no replies. Has anyone else had a similar problem? Thanks, Tim Dyer Pack 56
  24. Well, we are planning a day full of wet and/or sloppy events. The boys will compete as dens against each other. Some of the event planned are: Wet sponge or water ballon toss Mudskipper marathon Den Leader dunk tank Cheese ball stickem Taget practice with water ballons Raw Egg Toss We are still planning the event. It will be held in August, so getting wet will keep everyone cool. Mudskipper marathon was my idea. Get a couple of wading pools filled up with mud. Throw some diving rings in the bottom. The boys run down and find 1 ring using only thier feet. then re
  25. We are having a raingutter regatta, camping at a baseball game, and the highlight---the Sloppy Olympics. I will have many activites for my den as well. Tim Dyer Pack 56
