The flag patch on our shirts may not be a "real" flag, but it is a represintation of it. When saluting the flag during the national anthem, and no flag is visible, we salute the direction the anthem is coming from. This is not the flag, but a represintation. As far as I know, It has not been discontinued. My den earned this in Nov./Dec. Another good award to offer the boys is the United States Heritage Award. 8 requirements and they earn a medal and/or a patch. Yes, Peel and stick. I found that the sticky back actually helps hold it onto the shirt while sewing it on. And yesy it eventually washes off, without damaging the shirt. Tim Dyer

Absolutely ask what they expect. Then go through training. The UC SHOULD be a person that is a real resource. Able to help spot troubles in a unit and help the leaders think of ways to repair and prevent it. I would not suggest being the UC for your particular pack. Sometimes you may be a bit biased. No, the DC has not EVER been trained. They don't care about training. That was their words, not mine. I am a little unsure how they got into this position without it. Our old DE made the choice himself, without a nominating committee. May problems have come to light because of my stand. I know that in the end I will "win the war". Here is the latest. I regreatfully announce that I have resigned as both RT commissioner and Unit Commissioner. I could not convince the new DC to let me have a shot doing RTs the right way, nor could I agree to do it wrong. I stepped down as Unit Commissioner because I could not encourage units to go to a RT that I cannot support. Okay, update time. I sent an e-mail to the DC telling them that I was moving the CSRT back to the original night. I then sent an e-mail to the old DE to forward to the units stating the change and what they could expect from myself and my RT staff. The old DE called the DC to ask if he should send it out (since it was a change and did not come from the DC) He was told not to send it out. I then got a call from the DC. They were furious. 1. When I first started posting on this site, I would actually get mad at Bob for replying to everything I asked or stated. But I thought I knew everything at that point. Since then, I have had mucho training, and now a Commissioner. I now look forward to his knowledge. And he has helped me out quite a bit. 2. I often see posts asking for advice. In my council, we were told that it was not necassary at this time to have the SSN. That is for a national database that has yet to be set up. Even then, it will not be given out to anyone. Tim Dyer

For those individuals that are involved in both levels of scouting, I would suggest that the other leaders that attend share the info. KISMIF. Kepp it secret, Make it fail. The information discussed at roundtable should be shared with all leaders to make it effective. If someone feels as if they are missing out, then that seems to be a problem within that unit. Okay, Let me explain the situation. I am newly appointed as the Cub Scout Roundtable Commissioner by the DE and DC. Attendance was low at the roundtables due to lack of the fun factor. (I attended and that was my perception.) To increase attendance, the DC has combined the Boy and Cub roundtables. It will consist of the following: 15 minutes......Opening and Business 30 minutes......Cub and Boy Breakouts 10 minutes......Closing and Misc. I was told no crafts and no songs. Does anyone remember when the Cub Scouts all wore the same Blue Cap with the Cub emblem on the front and yellow ribbing on it? And also they ALL wore a yellow neckerchief. I think that looked good, but understand and agree with the updating of the two. Instead of trying to make a new neckerchief, we are going to focus on working together as a den and have as much FUN as possible. Paul, I would not put every position for the Roundup. Some Parents may feel pressured at first. I would have a least the den Leaders and such on your list. After everyone signs up, have a parent meeting after your first meeting. At this meeting have a sign up sheet with the different "events" throughout the year. Have the parent sign up to be on a committee or help with the events. Then let the committee chair of the group set job assignments. Make sure to let the paernts know that without them, the boys will not have a fun and eventful year. This is the way in which we have done

Since posting this thread back in march, I have done even more training and learning. I am now a Commissioner and realize the truth about the neckerchiefs. Even in the Cub Scout leader book it states that the uniform is not to be worn with civilian clothes and vice versa. It is to be all or none. I have a problem, I have been told that the Cub and BS roundtables will be a joint meeting with a breakout session for the different programs. I just finished RT Commissioner training and learned that they should be seperate. I agree with this. What do you do in your District and/or Councils? I need advise on this. Bob White, suggestions? While the orange shirt is the official shirt at this time, it is no longer being made. After the supply is depleted, the Tigers will wear the blue Cub Scout shirt with an orange neckerchief and the current hat. Tigers are no longer a seperate program than Cubs. Tim Dyer

As far as I know, there is no offical date at this time. National finished it's contract with the company making the orange Ts and the warehouse is full of them. Local councils will start wearing the blue uniforms when the orange shirts are gone. Tim Dyer

While poeple talk about the "value" of the popcorn we sell not being a sound one, let me offer this up. Many individuals buy the popcorn for the popcorn. But I would bet that most people are buying it for the "value" of helping the boys. I for one think it is a great value. Popcorn money funded our pack for the entire year. The boys got to do things they would not have because of financial issues. So when you talk about "value", please consider how much value the boys are worth. Tim Dyer

ExperiencedUniforms, As far as having the requirements on the site, I feel it is a great help. Boys do have their own books, but having them their is also for the parents. Or say someone is on vacation and wants to see if they can complete something while away. Our site is for our pack members. We have a list of upcoming events and a calander. Each den will post their calander after school starts back up and the dens as well. The site also shows others what we are up to. So yes. It is for us AND others. Our pack has been around for 1 year now and only started this site recent

As an asst. Cubmaster and Unit Commissioner, I see several problems. First, once a boy has earned ANY award, they should recieve it in a meaningful way...most of all fun. The old Cubmaster cannot pick and choose which awards to hand out. Second, The old Cubmaster can only suggest the a leader step down. The final decision is made by the Committee and Chartered Org. I would bet that almost all Chartered Org. would have a problem removing a leader if they have done nothing wrong. Thank you for your input. I agree that putting the den photo would be a good idea. However, I don't feel comfortable putting the boys first name and photo, from a youth protection point of view. So, looking at it from that stand point, I could put their first name OR den photo. I personally theink that the boys would like to see themselves rather than just their first name. I don't want to place any more risk than necassary on the boys. Tim Dyer
