  1. My Eagle son directly solicited funds to cover the costs of his Eagle project 2 years ago. He raised the money to build benches around the walking path at a retirement community. He had hoped to raise enough for 8 benches but had enough for 9. This was done with the blessing of our local district and council.
  2. I thought it was just dyslexia
  3. Very interesting!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. Good job on finding that. I had been looking but had no luck at all.
  5. Our new patrol is the Crusaders and their cheer is.... "Which way is Jerusalem, again?"
  6. We are trying a different approach. Our WII are meeting as a den at the same time as our troop. When the troop breaks for patrol time, the Webelos break off for their own activities. When they bridge over, they will meld into the troop but not as a separate patrol. They will be in the existing patrols. It seems to be working well for our guys.
  7. So let me get this straight....we should only have 2 kids because it is enviornmentally responsible? Which ones of mine should I get rid of? We have four living children. Most of my friends have four or five kids. We live in a three bedroom, one bathroom house. I stay at home and homeschool the kids. Our oldest attends community college because of finances. Our son has enlisted in the Army Reserve to pay for college (and because he intends to make the Army his career). I have no idea about the younger two yet. We do need larger families. Not just for "economic" considerations of
  8. The Den Chief should get a mentoring patch or pin or whatever. Don't know if there is anything for someone who is at that age but has already completed the award.
  9. We were hoping for something more centrally located too! DC is a nice enough area but wouldn't the Black Hills have been great....especially in the summer! C'est la vie. Once more we are just flyover country.
  10. I, as a religous nut, am against the cervical cancer vaccine because we do NOT know the long term repercussions. I simply ask for more information. Also, when I refer to the "church" I refer to Christianity in general not the Roman Catholic Church since I am not Roman Catholic. I belong to a small, non-denominational, independent Christian church. (As in Dodge Memorial Christian Church...85 members).
  11. The Little Sioux Scout Ranch will have its grand re-opening on May 2, 2009, less than one year after the tornado. It will be held with the spring Camporee of two local districts.
  12. Pack, I live in Southwest Iowa near Omaha, Nebraska. We used to go up to Boji during the summer but I haven't been in years...too many scout camps! I guess Iowa now has the second highest number of wind turbines in the country. Just wished they would lower my light bill.
  13. I am a homeschooler and also help my mother take care of my father who has advanced alzheimer's. In my spare time (LOL) I am a cubmaster to a BRAND-NEW pack, a UC, and JOAT. Theresa
  14. It isn't appropriate for an 11 year old to watch an R movie. If that is going to be shown, do they let parents know? What about mature rated games?
  15. They are logging at Little Sioux Scout Ranch in Iowa. Quite a bit of timber is going out of there. Does anyone object to that one?
  16. What about leaders that allow boys to watch R rated movies?
  17. I guess it doesn't matter that they often run food pantries, shelters, voting places, meeting halls for any number of "outside" activities. "They don't pay their fair share"
  18. The "Church building" does not pay taxes but the congregation does. Every member of our church pays taxes, including the pastor, his wife, the youth minister, EVERYONE. Do nursing homes pay taxes? schools? orphanages? hospitals? Do they get a free ride? or tax money? In the listed cases, here at least, they do not pay taxes, receive all services AND our tax dollars.
  19. I am confused. Houses of worship are tax exempt. They do not pay taxes, they do not receive tax money. In what way are the taxpayers footing the bill?
  20. My husband lost his job and has only been able to find work at Target at about 1/3 of his previous income. We are a one income family so we are definately hurting. Anybody need a computer expert? The Omaha market got flooded when 3 or 4 companies dumped a huge portion of their IT departments. Ironically, I don't know that many other people (other than my husband's former co-workers) personally who are laid off.
  21. Gern, When is abortion wrong? Is there a right and wrong? When do YOU say life begins? I believe we should err on the side of life. When in doubt, let them live. I am pro-death penalty but I live in a state without the death penalty and am not lobbying for it to be added because we have life without parole. I believe we should not withhold food and water (not saying it cannot be refused but should not be withheld).
