  1. I like the velexiun (sp) thing. I think that would even be easy enought for the Cubs to make. I have an official Tiger Flag, But I think that I am going to let the other dens make their own like the ones that you showed. I think that I will have them make em up before we co camping this spring and also have them ready for Summer Encampment
  2. Thanks for the input so far. I was at a hobby shop today and saw something that I thought I would get. It is a Model paint kit. It has a compressed bottle and runs off of standard testors paint bottles. Looked pretty cool. I think that it $30. Not too bad for a air brush kit.
  3. I am looking for some conservation project ideas to do with the Cub Scouts. I was thinking of things that can be done at council facilities. These projects are for Leave No Trace and CS World Conservation Award.
  4. I think what you are looking for is something similar to what I asked about. I knew that there was some Excel Spread sheets out ther that had what you were looking for. As low as two lanes and many different ammounts of racers. I am in the process of going through the files that I found. If you PM me iwth you e-mail I will send you some of them when I get to a better connection.
  5. Eagle92 The only thing that comes to mind when I think about Ebay cars is "Down and Derby" I watched that the other day, and I just kept laughing. I am not talking just about PWD. What kind of paints for other crafts.
  6. I just had a question about paints that Cub Scouts use. What does everyone reccommend. Tempera, Oil, or what. I used spray paint on last years pinewood derby models, but I was wondering so that we can be ready for this year. Any help would be appreciated.
  7. I do not know if you are looking for individual or unit, lets not forget the Quality unit. I also know that our council has what is called a Tarten Guard Award. Our Pack earned this one this year. I also saw somewhere at our council an award (National Camp Award I think) that a Scout earns for 100 nights of camping.
  8. Thanks folks. Some of these are the ones that I was looking for. I am going to take some time and look them over to find the one that I want to use. I also have another CM that is interested in the programs. I am going to get them together and show him the programs. He may be interested and he might be loaning me a track to use this year. Thanks again
  9. I was wondering if anyone out there had or knows where I can find some pinewood derby race tracking software. Free is best. We are using a two lane track design, so if the one that you know of uses this design then it would be prefered. or something where the number of lanes can be picked.
  10. OK I will say that a lot of the times there is a need for more adults for the tasks and activities. How about this for numbers 15 Boys - 15 Adults. Two of the adults are the leaders. Is there such a problem that they cannot move away for 15-30 minutes for program training that may help the program. The other parents would be aware of this and could probably help in this case.
  11. ScoutNut The Cub Encampment is like this Session 1 Wolf/Bear Sunday afternoon to Wednesday morning Session 2 Webelos I/II Wednesday Afternoon to Saturday Morning. There is only one week because we probably would not have enough participation to do more than one. They are using the same camp that the council uses for summer camp. The week that we are going to be there will be an off week for boy scouts. So we will have the camp staff there to run the stations. As for the 5:1 Ratio. THat is the minimum recommendation. I have a funny feeling that it will be more li
  12. First Off, This is not a ALL SUMMER CAMP. Look at some of the previous posts and you will see that it is 4 days and 3 nights. Second, when it come to it, if the leaders are there and bored out of their mind becuase the staff is doing s great job with the activities, and the parents are standing back watching, then why not give some additional training for the registered leaders that are present. I understand that if there is some behavior issues then the leaders need to get the boys back in line. I did not say that the leaders would be a mile down the road. I am talking about having t
  13. With the Camp Directors curosity peaked, I went through and broke down the training for at least one of the days that we would be at camp. I was able to fit Baloo training into the day and get all of the training sessions built in. I just have to look into day one, or I might just go through and spread baloo out a little more as to not bore orover do it. I also like the idea of the discussion group. Sounds like a good plan. I will have to present some of the other ideas. Dean. I can understand what you mean by the camp is for the cubs, but this was a general thou
  14. I would like to ask, what is it that you fine folks do with your cub scouts when you go camping. We have some new council programs that are available when we use the council sites, but what kind of activities do you like. Before anyone says it, I have taken my BALOO training. I am just looking for additional activities
  15. Bbeing unaware of where you are, I don't know where to send you. But in our region (South East) I have a list. Our council will be hosting NCS this May. If you PM me with your e-mail I can send you a copy of the file. Just let me know.
  16. I knew that, I waaassss teeeesssting you..... Just kidding. I bet if I had remembered, I would have seen that the informatoin came from the Voters information packet.
  17. Here is our council Grace The East Carolina Council Grace For the Food You Give Us For Your Land and Our Freedom For Those That Guide Us For the Growth and Happiness of Our Youth We Give You Thanks Oh Lord, Amen
  18. ElyriaLeader Where might someone go to find the custom medallions for the walking stick. I like the idea, but I do not know where you might get them.
  19. I thinnk that these people are just out there to cause a stir. I know that it is a tradition that the president elect takes this honorary position. I wonder if they have sent this letter to Bush, Clinton, Bush, or Reagan. IMO I think that these people are just mad that if they want to belong to a private organization, they have rules to live by, the same as the guy who wants his daughter in Cub Scouts.
  20. I don't know if anyone said this already, but I was looking over it. Here is something that may have happened He may have been interviewed. During that interview they asked questions like his opinion, and somewhere down the line asked him who he worked for, or he may have made a scouting shirt on. If the reporter saw that there was a connection, then they will exploit it. Especially on this issue. Make good press. I am not saying that all reporters are like that, but most of the ones that I have dealt with seem to think this way.
  21. John I love that. We had something like that happen to a couple of our scouts at summer camp when I was a young scout. Not peanut butter and not on the face. We returned after a campfire and as we approached the tents, we heard something moving around in one of the tents. With camera ready to surprise a prankster we though was in there, we opened the flap and snapped a picture of, yes he was one too, ricky the raccoon. Except his entire mouth, snout, and paws were orange from the cheetos that were left in the tent. Priceless.
  22. Like it was said before, look online, there is a lot of suggestion there. Get a set of rules. This will be your guidance. SAND SAND SAND. Enough said. when you are painting, stick small adhesive dots where the axle slots are. Big enough to leave the area that your wheels will touch unpainted. this will keep the paint from causing your wheels to stick. If this is your first derby (which it seems like it is) then go to have fun. chances are you will not win. But remember your lessons and have fun with it. And if you do win anything, then don't rub it in on the little
  23. Thanks everyone, these lists are great. nldscout You mean they are not already over active. I guess you are looking to hype them up and send them for a hard crash after the campfire. Eagle92, that would be great if you could send that. Lets see what we have so far Theme Related Items (If there is one) then scrap uniform parts awards cards adult-oriented program materials and supplies pocketknives whetstones craft lace (gimp) whistles water bottles patches T-shirts simple pocket first-aid kits Hot Sparks collapsible cups small magnifying glasse
  24. Lets all remember that these are Cub Scouts, Not Boy Scouts. A simple injury can cause him to never return to the program. Especially if he is laughed at when it happend. I would say a patch, especially if he has a good sense of humor. Maybe look through these spoof patches http://www.boyscoutstore.com/store/Scripts/prodList.asp?idCategory=81 Kids like awards, even if it is a certificate that you print yourself from the computer.
  25. Thank you all for the suggestions. THere have been some good ones and things that I would have not thought of. Scout Nut - You are right in that the director usually picks up the items. But we have been talking and we were looking for what kind of things would be more appropriate vs a Boy scout camp. We have got a lot of suggestions on what to have in there, are there any suggestions on what not to have. you know things that di nothing but cause problems in your camp. let make this a suggewstion forum for both what to have and what not to have.
