...The Survivor Working Group will work with BSA leadership to, among other things, continue to enhance the BSA's current youth protection program, discuss and address survivor concerns, assist in preparation for and implementation of the non-economic commitments of the BSA under the Plan of Reorganization, and discuss how to expand the input of survivors at the national and local council level. The Survivor Working Group will be comprised of between 15-20 members, including between 8-12 survivors who are members of the Coalition, and at least 6 representatives of BSA, including (1) the CEO/Chief Scout Executive, (2) the Chair of BSA's Safe Scouting Support Committee, (3) the Executive Vice President and Youth Development Officer, (4) the Director of Membership Standards, (5) the Chair of BSA's Audit and Risk Management Standing Committee of the Executive Board, and (6) a representative of the Ad Hoc Committee of Local Councils. Importantly, the Coalition demanded that the Working Group be open to all survivors, to ensure that all perspectives are heard. ...This announcement follows a recent commitment from the BSA to appoint a survivor to its National Executive Board. Both the formation of a Survivor Working Group and the addition of a survivor to the BSA Board are the direct result of Coalition negotiations with the BSA. Louisville (KY) - Explorer Post Abuse Scandal
RememberSchiff replied to RememberSchiff's topic in Issues & Politics
Statement on city website https://louisvilleky.gov/news/settlement-reached-explorer-claims Settlement reached for Explorer claims November 01, 2021 The Boys Scouts of America and its related local organizations and Louisville Metro Government, through its legal representative Jefferson County Attorney Mike O’Connell and his office, have negotiated a settlement that resolves all claims involving seven lawsuits related to the Boy Scouts of America Explorer program. $3,650,000 will paid to seven plaintiffs, with more than $3 million of that amount coming from Old Republic Insurance Company, the insurer for the Boy Scouts of America. The remainder will be paid by Metro’s self-insurance under the Louisville Area Governmental Self Insurance Trust. Per the settlement agreement, counsel for plaintiffs will retain an independent third party as a settlement arbiter to allocate the funds between among the seven plaintiffs as the arbiter deems appropriate based on the facts and circumstances of each claim. The first of seven lawsuits was filed on March 8, 2017 in Jefferson Circuit Court. The attorney in that case, then Metro Council President David Yates, was later disqualified for his conflict of interest. Mayor Greg Fischer suspended the Explorer program on March 13, 2017 and on March 17, 2017 appointed former U.S. Attorney Kerry Harvey as special investigator into allegations about the program. Harvey’s report was released in June 2018. “Since the beginning of the Explorers case, my ultimate goal has been to find the truth and get justice for the victims,” said Mayor Greg Fischer. “It’s our hope that this settlement brings some closure for those involved. We must continue our work to ensure the appalling interactions that led to this investigation never happen again.” Three LMPD officers pleaded guilty to federal charges related to allegations that occurred related to the Explorer program. In 2018, the matter was transferred to federal court where the Plaintiffs were represented by Tad Thomas. The cases were settled on October 29, 2021. -

Random thoughts: I probably could not get past the "Key Terms" as they are defined and maybe that would be the first class, e.g., is diversity about "identifiers" or is it about "experiences", "opinions", "ideas"? Replace "upstander" with "Scout", as in a Scout helps other people at all times. Saw no requirements related to federal, state, local laws, not even how to interact with police. What is does "Rule of Law" mean? Will the BSA's DRP come up when discussing inclusion? My $0.01, -

Regarding @qwazse point about taking complaints to the Bar Association, I looked at the link below https://www.americanbar.org/groups/professional_responsibility/publications/model_rules_of_professional_conduct/model_rules_of_professional_conduct_preamble_scope/ Noticed this [16] Compliance with the Rules, as with all law in an open society, depends primarily upon understanding and voluntary compliance, secondarily upon reinforcement by peer and public opinion and finally, when necessary, upon enforcement through disciplinary proceedings. The Rules do not, however, exhaust the moral and ethical considerations that should inform a lawyer, for no worthwhile human activity can be completely defined by legal rules. The Rules simply provide a framework for the ethical practice of law. -

Sort of STEM and story is a bit old but an entirely different fundraiser. Fremont Mischief whiskey distiller recruited four captains to age its whiskey at sea, then marketed the four differently aged whiskeys as a challenge fundraiser. In 2016, Captain Sig Hansen, Mandy, Nick & Crew supporting Sea Scouts: $5,305 came in second. Barrel-aged in the bow, under the forward wheelhouse of the F/V Northwestern, this whiskey was thrashed by the turbulent icy waves of the Bering Sea...Taster notes: Hints of the briny sea, sweet smoke, and a warm toasty finish. Captain Sig Hansen has been featured on Discovery Channel's Deadliest Catch. @mashmaster Reference links: https://fremontmischief.com/storm-tossed-rye-whiskey/ https://www.king5.com/article/entertainment/television/programs/evening/deadliest-catch-captains-age-whiskey-aboard-boats-seattle-distillery-fremont-mischief-crab/281-7e32404e-4bbe-45b6-bbd4-321d02bda660

Our local technical high school received a state high tech grant which funded a first-rate HAAS CNC shop, oh they have Bridgeports , lathes, and my favorite - an anvil. Only a few students registered, so the school setup a cross-program with the local community college. No shortage of interested, more mature students. The tech teachers whom I have spoken say they want better students ahead of pay, benefits, new equipment.

I hear you. IMHO, for public institutions that has to be changed by taxpayers; we should not throw money at replicating chemistry labs, auto shops, ... While a DL, we met at the local playground which was on school property...until a new principal said we could not. This didn't sit well with many in the community who volunteered to build that playground after a tax increase to fund it. Her attitude was adjusted as was nearly her employment. My $0.02,

@ThenNow We should not be copying the whole article of a commercial publication, rather just quote a few excerpts while noting source. Also, that article is now paywalled. Judge Silverstein will "delay ruling on whether to shield mediation communications from discovery" while reviewing precedent and establishment of privilege. https://www.law360.com/insurance-authority/property/articles/1432329/boy-scouts-judge-mulls-if-mediation-talks-shielded-in-ch-11 -
..."The Roy Grindstaff Skilled Trades Center will provide scouts ages 13-18 the opportunity to earn the merit badges of automotive maintenance, electricity, home repair, painting, plumbing and welding. The facility will also include a classroom to accommodate hands-on skills presentations by volunteers who are experts in the trades’ fields." The center to be located at Boxwell Scout Reservation is scheduled to open next summer and was "made possible through a gift from the Maddox Foundation of Hernando, Miss. The Skilled Trades Center is a priority project of the Middle Tennessee Council’s Campaign for Boxwell Reservation. The $10.6 million effort (for renovating the whole camp - RS) is underway and just less than $7 million has been raised."
