  1. OGE, you are probably correct with your good suggestions. I wonder if William Kunstler is still practicing
  2. Meanwhile New York passed the NY Safe Act 2013 which prohibits AR-15's just by virtue of it's pistol grip alone. Magazines are limited to 7 round capacity. Responsible NY gun owners legally owning firearms which are now labeled as assault weapons have one year to sell them to an out-of-state buyer. I doubt criminals took notice. My father's M-1 Garand (circa WW2/Korea) is now an assault weapon because it has a bayonet lug and takes a 8 round clip. Legally owned 10 round magazines have to be retro-fitted or sold in one year. Massachusetts is next in line with a similar measure. If it pass
  3. http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2013/01/16/list-obamas-23-executive-actions-on-gun-violence/ The President is announcing that he and the Administration will: 1. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background check system. 2. Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from making information available to the background check system. 3. Improve incentives for states to share information with the background chec
  4. Spun from other thread where constitutional freedoms were being discussed. Eagle732 was thinking about becoming a Citizenship in Nation MBC. Great! Imagine Baden-Powell was born two hundred years earlier and started Scouting in 1710 in England and it quickly spread to the American Colonies. Fifty some years later, are colonial scouts remaining loyal to the Crown or are they becoming patriots fighting for their freedom? $0.02 for your thoughts
  5. Yeah, I could see taxing the newspapers to pay for thier decision to constantly use free speech (you meant press) in irresponsible ways.. Yeah bring back the Stamp Act and King George too.
  6. Can yeh name even one example where registration has been a precursor to confiscation in the United States? Post Katrina, New Orleans "NEW ORLEANS, Sept. 8 - Waters were receding across this flood-beaten city today as police officers (and National Guard) began confiscating weapons, including legally registered firearms, from civilians in preparation for a mass forced evacuation of the residents still living here." http://www.nytimes.com/2005/09/08/national/nationalspecial/08cnd-storm.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCX1OfhckC8
  7. Imagine the Tour Permit for this! http://www.army.mil/article/94295/Boy_Scouts_visit_Soldiers_in_Kuwait/ I.O.U. $0.02
  8. This thread has baffled me as, there are already laws in nearly all states restricting firearms in schools. States Prohibiting or Restricting (meaning you need further written authorization) Concealed Weapons Permit/License Holders from Carrying on Elementary and Secondary School Property: 41 states and D.C.. State with laws for insufficiently licensed or random carry on school grounds 48 states and D.C. http://smartgunlaws.org/guns-in-schools-policy-summary/#footnote_82_5686
  9. Doesn't seem small - 5,000 porta-potties! News story link about porta-potties at 2008 Inauguration. As I understand, Don's Johns also supplied the A.P. Hill Jambos.
  10. Often, but not always, that is why we have an appeal process to a higher authority in this country. We cannot wait for an election, retirement, or death in hopes that our rights will eventually be restored. That said, the appeal process needs to be quicker. Only Microsoft tops the government in dragging out the legal process. As I understand, one of more interesting outcomes of Guillory vs Orange County (Gates) decided by US District Appeals Court was that CCW applicants have the right to question the sheriff regarding permits issued to other people. So in California, you are allowed to f
  11. Rick. Yes we are losing the principle that we are a nation of laws. The law is ignored or fabricated arbitrarily by powerful men (big guns), equal justice under the law is disappearing. ATF, the Justice Dept, and Operation Fast and Furious are but one example. I imagine if the Lone Ranger rode through your town, he would be similarly harassed by the local law. "Ke-mo sah-bee, Sheriff have sickness in head, cannot fix with medicine." But he or more likely Tonto would fix it, in short order. Standing up for our rights is fading too... My $0.02
  12. Probably, but didn't Mike Rowe do an episode or two about port-a-potties?
  13. "On Monday, January 21 approximately 750 Scouts from National Capital Area Council will participate in the 57th Presidential Inauguration, continuing a tradition that reaches back to President Woodrow Wilson." Scouts will serve as ADA volunteers, Inside Line Management volunteers, Magnetometer ADA volunteers,... 14. Maybe private sales/transfers are ending, everything goes through a FFL which can cost $25-40 per transaction. So will only police and criminals be using high capacity mags marked LEO (Law Enforcement Only)? As a logistical and political matter, I wonder if the 10 round restriction will extend to police as well? Will the government buy back mags over 10 rounds or pay for rework. Good mags can be $30-50 and hard to find for some model handguns (e.g. Para). I thought the "research" was about video games and movie violence? I read the penalties for straw purchase will increase. Re
  15. Maybe my assailant has a nickel-plated, pearl-handled Colt .45 and all I have is a Bushmaster, so what. Am I a bigot... I dunno. I suppose you could be considered a bigot if you berated your assailant by saying something non-PC like "Only a pimp in a New Orleans whorehouse or a tin-horn gambler would carry a pearl-handled pistol."
  16. 8 round clip for Garand, 5 round for 03.
  17. Help is where you find it, I guess. Has anyone gone through this program? "Autism Empowerment (this is not a BSA leadership program) and their Autism and Scouting Leadership Training Program is one of just sixteen national non-profit recipients (and the only Northwest based honoree) of a 2012 Family Services Community Grant from Autism Speaks. The awards were announced in late December 2012 and Autism Empowerment will be receiving their grant award check in January 2013. http://www.autismspeaks.org/family-services/grants/community-grants/community-grants-2012 (see list here) Bas
  18. I wonder... if more councils will pass similar "approved" Eagle applications along to National? if similar Eagle candidates will state on their college or job applications "Completed Eagle Scout requirements and recommended for Eagle by HisCouncilName Council.", omitting that National rejected them.?? (This message has been edited by RememberSchiff)
  19. Taking local option? "The Mount Diablo-Silverado Boy Scout Council is "directly challenging" the national organization's ban on gay Scouts and leaders and will recommend Andresen attain Eagle, Reuters reported today. The recommendation on the application was forwarded to the national organization for review." ... But according to national BSA spokesman Deron Smith, neither the local nor national council has given the final approval of the award to Andresen. "The Eagle application was forwarded, by a volunteer, to the local council but it was not approved because this youn
  20. Now this is what I want to read and watch. What started out as a hike to Cadillac Mountain to watch the first sunrise of 2013 turned into a test of all their boy scout lessons. A 19-year old girl visiting from Florida along with a friend started the trek to the top, but lacked the proper attire and footwear. The gusty winds and wind chill dropped temperatures to single digits and caused her to be unable to move. Her friend called 9-1-1, but it was the group of scouts jumping into action that helped her until emergency responders arrived..." read rest and watch video here h
  21. Doug Smith directed BSA National's task force to protect children from sexual abuse. In 2005, he pleaded guilty to possession and distribution of child pornography (over 500 images on his PC, as I recall it was a joint German and US investigation). He faced 5-20 years, but 8 years later he is out, but stay tuned for the surprise! 2005 news article: Boy Scout official pleads guilty to child porn http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7326932/ns/us_news-crime_and_courts/t/boy-scout-official-pleads-guilty-child-porn/#.UOYAc4ZC2Zo 2013 news article: Former Scout Safety Director Freed from Prison
  22. Good point and in keeping with a free market, how many insurers would offer liability coverage for intentional or criminal acts by the policyholder? How many do now?(This message has been edited by RememberSchiff)
  23. Good story about a father and son working together in scouting to grow his son into a successful adult. Currently his son is working on his Eagle project. What I liked about the article was it focused on the growth of the boy through scouting and not the Eagle award. His son is on the autism spectrum with a hyperlexia trait. Hyperlexia is enhanced and early reading (decoding words) but usually accompanied with comprehension issues. http://www.neagle.com/article/20121227/NEWS/121229903(This message has been edited by RememberSchiff)
