  11. I remember Grey Owl from my days as chapter ceremonial chair back in the 80s. I did a lot of drooling then too! At the time, I liked Grey owl a little better than Crazy Crow. But that was a long time ago, and both companies have likely changed! Prof
  12. I lived in that area for several years! Very interesting area. Scouts should have fun there, taking in all that the region has to offer! Prof
  13. Bearshark, I am unaware of any such limits. Some random thoughts, for what they may be worth Not sure if this is really the advancement chairs call. Merit Badge Counselor is a district position. Even if your troop has a counselor, others might benefit. If anything, I would hope an advancement chair would want more people involved. The more options available, the better. More opportunities for adult association with people they may not have worked with before. Philosophically, I hate to see parents who want to get involved turned away. It can create bad feelings, which you have observed. I might be tempted to talk to the advancement chair to see where he is coming from. Is he confused about the rules? Or is there another reason for not wanting this person involved in this role. Might be a back story we don't know about. Prof
  14. Sean, A big welcome to the virtual campfire from a fellow hoosier! Prof.
  15. Aegis, Big Howdy from across the Ohio River in Southern Indiana. Hope that you dodged the recent snowstorm! Prof.
  16. Eagle86, Welcome to the virtual campfire. We look forward to learning from you and your perspective! Prof.
  17. My experience as a scout was similar to that of desertrat. Late 70s early 80s. I often saw the Eagle patch on camp staff or OA members over 21. No one thought anything wrong about it. I kinda thought it was interesting to see Eagle patches from different time periods.
  18. SctDad, My sympathies to you and your family. A named campership would be an excellent memorial. Prof
  19. A group that I work with did this as well at a local mall. Did well for an afternoons work!
  20. Thanks to all who have served! Thanks to all who are serving now!
  21. "Reference checks that are forwarded with the application are confidential, and their contents are not to be disclosed to any person who is not a member of the board of review." pg. 32. I am curious. Would anyone hold back an Eagle candidate based on a letter? If so, how would you explain that to the candidate? (while ensuring the confidentiality of the writer?)
  22. El_Bucho, Welcome to the virtual campfire and welcome back to scouting! Steve
  23. Dave, Welcome to the virtual campfire and welcome back to Scouting! Steve
  24. Jack, Welcome to the forums and welcome back to scouting! I spent some time just south of you, in the Hampton Roads area. I kinda miss the Commonwealth at times! Prof
