Sen Barbara Boxer proposes using the National Guard for school security. Where do we find these morons....and why do we elect them to office? https://pandaunite.org/ndaa-national-guard-for-school-security/

"A lot of the guns the bad guys get they get by stealing them from the good guys." And that's the final solution after a step by step systematic dismantling of the 2nd Amendment. The left won't be happy until ALL the guns are confiscated and destroyed so they simply won't be available...to anyone...except the Government. Good luck with that.

We already have police officers, um, I mean "resource officers" and metal detectors in the high and middle schools here. They stationed officers (police and sherriff's deputies) in the elementary schools for one week (last week). It must work, since they didn't have any shootings. THey did find a 12 ga shotgun in the car of a high school student in the school parking lot, unloaded and with his other hunting gear. He was hunting last weekend and didn't clean out his car. They charged him with a felony.

News headline: "Violence erupts over Air Jordans" - time to ban Air Jordans and save our children.

In the mid-term elections, we ought to clean house (and Senate) on BOTH sides of the aisle. But, the sheeple voters won't do that. As long as we continue to return the morons to office, we deserve what we get.

I think we should ban children, except to parents who are a)married and b)trained and licensed. No more than 2 per married couple...no on NEEDS more than 2 kids, especially if they can't feed them without government support. We should ban divorce...a lot of kids are dysfunctional because of broken homes.

Please take 5 minutes out of your week to answer this call Dear CV Friends, Imagine being a Catholic priest in Newtown, CT. Fr. Luke Suarez and Msgr. Robert Weiss serve at St. Rose of Lima parish in the heart of the shattered New England town. CV blogger Tom Crowe personally knows Fr. Luke as he was in seminary with him for a year. Tom also knows Fr. Luke's sister, who penned the note below. We send it along and hope you will be moved to act on her suggestion. - Your Friends at CatholicVote.org My friends, All of you, I am sure, have heard so much about the tragedy in Newtown, CT. Many of you have received emails from me about my younger brother, Father Luke Suarez, who is a priest at St. Rose of Lima parish, a Catholic church just down the road from Sandy Hook Elementary. He, and his pastor, Monsignor Weiss, arrived at the school within moments of the shooting, and have been caring for the community ever since. The picture I have included was taken at the school. Father Luke has an impossible task before him. His diocese is without a bishop right now. Monsignor is personally devastated by the losses. The parish is very large. The rectory has received serious threats, and as my brother gave the homily Sunday at the noon mass, the church had to be evacuated by SWAT teams. After experiencing identity theft and online hacking incidents, he had to erase all of his internet accounts. After a weekend of endless media requests, notifications and vigils with heartbroken families, and little sleep, he now has two wakes and two funerals every day, until the fourth Sunday of Advent. Father Luke has not even been ordained two years. My large family has been trying to send Father Luke our love and support from afar, and one of my brothers was able to visit with him briefly a couple times. All he asks for is prayer. I have been wracking my brain, trying to think of a way that our beautiful, loving community could tangibly reach out to Father Luke, Monsignor Weiss, and the St. Rose parish, to support them in this most awful of times. I have sent many prayer requests, and I am asking for more prayers again. But I also want to ask everyone to search their hearts, and if the Holy Spirit moves you, please consider sending one of your familys Christmas cards to the rectory, with a few words of love and encouragement. Here is his address: Father Luke Suarez 46 Church Hill Road Newtown, CT 06470 My brother has said over and over again that without the prayer support he is receiving, he could not keep going. And this week is only the beginning. Everyone there is still in shock. Their peaceful home has been desecrated by violence. They will need to live with this sorrow forever. But in our weakness is His strength. Grace abounds. Can you help me carry him through this time of trial? On a hopeful note, Father Luke did say that no media coverage has even touched the deep, beautiful awakening of faith that has occurred there. Their tiny church, where my children have received sacraments and where Luke was ordained, has been full of people in prayer without ceasing since this tragedy happened. Love is stronger than death. Please feel free to share the address with your family, friends, and community. An outpouring of love will sustain these good priests through their impossible ministryimpossible on their own, but possible with God. I am so grateful to live in this community. We are all so blessed with one another. Every day, I see you all loving one another as Christ loved. Thank you for letting me reach out to you now. With humble appreciation.

Isn't it funny how the Constitution's meaning gets changed over the years. From "Congress shall make no laws respecting the establishment of religion or the free exercise thereof" to "no, you can't wear a Santa hat in a public school". And people wonder why we're so paranoid about the 2nd Amendment...

OK, I'll bite...we do it for the boys, because no one else will. I was amazed at the OP and the list of things that are performed AND funded almost entirely by volunteer Scouters. I find that website post insulting. Now as to professional scouters, over the past 35 or so years, I have seen some that are useless, and some who are hard-working, honest professionals. They work horrendous hours for little pay trying to meet unreasonable goals. Some I have called "friend" and it's a lot easier to work with them as a team, than it is to work under a cloak of animosity. We just need to understand what their job requires of them...to increase units, membership and donations. Delivering the program is our job (the volunteers).

Not Quite Right in the Head - Our Responsibilities?
Papadaddy replied to JoeBob's topic in Working with Kids
As has been stated before, we are not trained psychologists or social workers or even teachers for the most part. We are just parents. Volunteer parents. I think we need to make clear to the other parents and youth what our standard expectations are for behavior and conduct. Outbursts of violence, disrespect, or rage will not be tolerated, period. If you expect us to accept such behavior and make accomodations at the expense of the other scouts, then you need to find another program. I didn't tolerate that from my own kids and I'm not going to tolerate it from yours. Sorry about the diagnosis and you have my sympathy...but I cannot be a part of your treatment program. -
Oh those pesky assult rifles......

I'm afraid of those who presume to think they know what I "need" and what I don't. -
"the right to bear arms is in the Constitution"...so why should we expect Congress and the President to pay attention to THAT amendment? They have trashed most of the others. The right to commit a crime is not in the Constitution. Life without parole for any crime committed with a firearm. Period. Regardless of age. I would gladly pay higher taxes to get the feral thugs and whackos off the streets. Automatic weapons are already illegal, but that hasn't stopped the drug dealers from getting ahold of Uzis and Mac-10s (or whatever they are)...Most of the time the cops are outgunned with their 12 ga shotguns and 9mm service weapons. Need more room in the jails...let the pot smokers out...most of them never hurt anyone else.

The past couple of years, I had returned to the Church (Lutheran) where I was raised, and was even wrestling with the nagging thought of becoming clergy when I retire from my career. This past weekend has landed me square back in the camp of agnosticism. I cannot encourage others to believe in something that I, myself cannot understand and explain.

Not Quite Right in the Head - Our Responsibilities?
Papadaddy replied to JoeBob's topic in Working with Kids
We had a special needs troop in our council, but it was mainly Down's Syndrome guys and they were a joy to work with. I spent a week of summer camp one year trying to teach one to swim. The autism/Aspergers guys seem to get "mainstreamed" because that's what parents demand of the schools. My wife, the school nurse, has a full class of emotionally disturbed kids this year, and she is ready to retire because of it. Every day is filled with screaming, violence and bodily carrying out of control kids down the hall. That's not fair to the other kids who are trying to learn. There is no "learning" taking place in this class...it is free babysitting and the parents are taking full advantage of it. -
@moose: Because, I have become convinced that if God wants them to find comfort, they will. Doesn't matter what I ask Him to do or not do. Yes, my faith has been severely shaken this year. Bad things have happened in my life (as well as many others) and good, innocent people have been inexplicably and permanently harmed. God of goodness and mercy??? Really?
-
I'm not praying for God to step in and comfort those who lost loved ones. Too little, too late. I'm asking Him why he wasn't there to prevent the tragedy. What in the world could be the "plan" in all this??? I understand atheists a little better today.

We never did this at the unit level. Camperships are available from Council that will pay up to half of the fee. Scouts are expected to earn the other half. In the few instances that we did have scouts in a bad situation, the adult leaders just chipped in and made it happen without an inquisition or financial audit. During my time as a unit leader, we had a few scouts who lost parents to cancer and we made sure they made it to camp to provide at least a week of diversion for them. Did they really "need" our help...I don't know. Didn't care.

Is Boy scouting Family scouting????
Papadaddy replied to Basementdweller's topic in Camping & High Adventure
If the cost of your outings is causing families to balk at the price, then you need to scale back, or hold fundraisers to cover the cost to the scouts. I would NOT compromise the experience by letting siblings and parents come along, just so they can have a vacation, too. -
I heard that lodge numbers went away. So, no need to "pick one"...

I thought the rule was to wear the loops for the position you are registered in. If the Chapter Chief is listed on the District Committee membership roster, then silver. I served (registered) as a unit CC and a District Committee member at the same time. So when participating with the troop, I wore red, and when I was representing the District, I wear silver. That being said, some things are not really worth worrying about. I'd be happy if the youth wore complete uniforms.

My Dad enlisted in the Navy after Pearl Harbor at the age of 17 and served in submarines in the Pacific war. 50% of his shipmates in the sub fleet never made it home. He was one of the lucky ones and I am here by the grace of God. It sickens me that he fought and so many died to preserve the freedoms that we are now giving away without a fight.

Is Boy scouting Family scouting????
Papadaddy replied to Basementdweller's topic in Camping & High Adventure
Boy SCouting is about turning boys into self-reliant men. Families should schedule their own vacations. I'm observing an increasing trend of kids (and parents) who never seem to cut the apron strings...still living with mommy and daddy into their 30's, unable to fend for themselves. We are doing them a grave disservice. My own niece is graduating from college at age 24 and has decided to move out on her own to a different state. Mom is so distraught she can hardly function. Get a grip. -
A friend of mine is a Civil Engineer at an A&E firm that just laid off 40 people. ANother friend who is an engineering technician has been out of work over a year. And I wouldn't advise anyone to go into medicine now...
