  1. should the advancement chair keep track of betloops, summertime activity awards, beads that go on the totem, emergency preparness, etc. ?
  2. is it the advancement chair's duty to keep track of the boys ranks and accomplishments or is it the den leaders duty? We are have a slight disagreement with this and any input would be very helpful. Also if there is any in writing on this it would help also.....

  4. To start of with kudos on the website... I just seen it for the first time today.... As of right now our charter organization has a pack, troop, and crew. As of three years ago our pack had 7 boys. Our pack now has over thirty. Our Troop has 7 boys with only 3 active. I truly think that besides the "program" I believe tapping into the local packs is the way to build up recruitment. Most boys join scouting as cubs. It is rare for a boy to join as a Boy Scout. I think that recruitment in Cub Scouts is the key. After a boy is recruited by the Cubs it is up to the Adult leadership to ke

  6. I'm not looking for a loophole! To be honest I have no involvement with a venture crew or boy scout troop at this time. I was just curious!
  7. Is is OK for a Boy Scout Troop and a Venturing crew to camp together on a regular basis? Yes, girls are involved, and I am only talking about non-council/district events. One more thing, If a scout has joint-registration should he go as a boy scout or venture member?
  8. Lead by Example!!!!!!!! Full uniform!!! except when it gets cold or raining!
  9. Sounds good to me: 1. talk to SM 2. talk to committee 3. talk to charter rep. 4. talk to council 5. talk to new charter rep. 6. talk to surrounding packs for recruitment 7. Get Trained 8. Go camping every month like you are supposed to! Ready...... Set............. Go................. I have always said "If you don't like the way your unit is being run, change it, or start your own" .
  10. for 1. As webelos you don't have to have a parent there.......... The way it was done at our webelos adventure camp was 1 adult leader for every 5 boys and two deep leadership. What do you mean you can't camp with the troop? A "dividing line"? I can understand keeping the webelos tents together but not dividing them completely. We do a troop/webelos camping trip every year and the boys tent/eat/ do everything together. I can understand not wanting the parents in the camp site because it does disturb the "patrol method". Was this something the troop invited you to or was it som
  11. We do not overly push popcorn. The only incentives we offer are the ones that trailsend offers. We have other fundraisers to support the pack. One of the only real reasons we do it is for quality unit. We have don't push it with the tigers because we don't like signing up a boy and then handing them a form to sell popcorn. On a personnel note: Trailsend makes a good product but it is too expensive. It's hard to sit out in front of a store and sell a box of popcorn for 7 bucks when they can buy an almost identical product for 3 bucks in the store. I think if the prices were reduced sales
  12. well the patch went on........... here is the pic............ http://www.cspack378.org/images/jambo89.jpg
  13. So I went to the scout office on Aug 1st. New Cub switch backs on the selves. I grab a pair of size 6 (smallest size) and have my son try them on. He comes out and they are way too big. The shorts run mid calf and the waist is too big even with the little tabs on the inside of the pants. My son is average size of the boys in his wolf den and a little bigger than the new tigers. Next year he will be able to fit them but I don't want to spend 30 bucks for pants he is only going to wear for one scouting year. Did anybody else have this problem?
  14. Does anybody has his EMAIL? please don't ask why I need it....
  15. I had to do a double take on it. She was wearing pink shoes.....
  16. This past weekend I saw a little girl at a council event in a FULL Cub Scout uniform. According to the colors she was wearing she would be a wolf. Many people noticed this and did not say a word to the parents or the leaders of that pack. Personally I wish Cub Scout was a coed program but since it is not, should somebody have said something? Is it the conscientious of most Scouters that Cubs should be a coed program like in the UK?
  17. this is pretty much the geest of it: In return for the privilege of carrying a pocketknife to designated Cub Scout functions, I agree to the following: 1. I will treat my pocketknife with the respect due a useful tool. 2. I will always close my pocketknife and put it away when not in use. 3. I will not use my pocketknife when it might injure someone near me. 4. I promise never to throw my pocketknife for any reason. 5. I will use my pocketknife in a safe manner at all times.
  18. yes, A boy can be signed off on certain requirements by his piers. Also if a registered adult is there, there should be no question about it.
  19. one more thing....... I follow the four corner deal of the whittling chip like a religion. If they do something with a pocket knife that they know is WRONG and they are intentionally doing it,(example: throwing it at a tree and trying to get it to stick) I will revoke their whittling chip and confiscate their knife on the first offense.
  20. My son was a tiger last year and I taught him everything about using a knife and how to sharpen it. He is now a wolf and very responsible with a knife. I do not allow my son to have his knife in scouting because I do not want him to make the other boys jealous. Next year I will go over the whittling chip with the boys and at that point leave it up to the boy's parents if they think their son is responsible enough to carry a knife. I know your answer has been answered already but yes they can carry a knife.
  21. welcome...................
  22. the thing is, I see a bunch of adult leaders wearing past jambo patches and I want to show my scouting experience too. I have only been back into scouting for 1 year. I have had a 13 year gap between being a youth scout and being an adult scout. A bunch of people trip out when they see my 10 year veteran pin. They ask me all about my scouting experience. The only thing I wear from my youth now is my Philmont belt and my AOL knot (never made eagle, only life). At what point do I let my youth experiences go and focus on my adult experiences. I really thing my 1989 jambo patch would be a good con
  23. I see that within scout regulations it is legal but is it "appropriate" for an adult leader to wear a jamboree patch that he attended as a youth?
