  1. So give us an update on how it went.
  2. As a counselor use caution ex. that number 5 of req. is still the same number in new req. Easy way to compare is to use requirement book old to new.
  3. srry Boy Scouts. "You camp in the winter? IN TENTS? He'll freeze." "He doesn't know how to cook." "I don't have time." Summer camp. "You do go to class with them?" ugh NO Parents to leaders "That's your job"(This message has been edited by kbandit)
  4. Our old pack used to say the bakers had to be someone who normally does NOT cook help with the cake. They must clean up the kitchen and have fun. Hubby and son once did the ruins from the Lion King. Talk about a big cake. Get some certificate paper and make up awards, leave the name spot blank and recruit a couple of parents to fill them out. Make sure you get the names on a piece of something that stays with the cake. Make sure each scout gets some kind of award.
  5. It may be the eye opener that the troop who normally get your pack Webelos needs. I would certainly call the Scoutmaster and tell him the scouts decision to go to another troop. They should not assume your Webelos would want to come if there has been no interaction. Good luck.
  6. From your last post it sounds as if you may want to see if the CO Rep. is interested in being COR. Our COR signs everything except the charter renewal where IH has to sign. Our COR is at our meetings every week and attends committee meetings. Maybe that's not the norm for other troops/packs but that is what happens to us. To the chartering organization I think we are the group that meets in the basement. We do work for them when they have clean-up days and what ever else they ask but...(This message has been edited by kbandit)
  7. What is sad is when new crossovers think they should get a patch for weekend camping and such and are told this is Boy Scouts and we don't give patches for everything you attend or do.
  8. Ok since I'm the first response I'll ask "Is he trained for his position and Youth Protection trained?" If not I would strongly suggest he do the on-line ASAP. Did he have a cub scout position? Ex Cubmaster perhaps? Used to being in control? Could the conflict(kind of bacon) and not doing things be his way of having power or feeling of lack of control? My council at the University of Scouting has a class on how to get along with difficult people. Hope the scouts had a good time mining. Please try and avoid conflicts with this person. They will probley not change. Is th
  9. We build the travel cost into the campout/summer camp. If it relativley close campout then no we do not add the travel. For summer camp this year our troop was $10/person under gas budget. So new scout books were purchased. Troop ate some gas for the year before at $4.00 + /gal. Had an unemployed scouter pulling trailer to camp and did help him with gas w/CC's blessing.
  10. I just quickly went through the Eagle app and workbook but could NOT find where there is any set number of hours for anything. Matter of fact there was a statement to the effect that there is no miniumn number of hours. This is something I would love to see them produce something in writing. No one can add or subtract to the requirements that National has set forth. Would love to hear the follow-up from you.
  11. That's a great story. Remember don't sweat the small stuff and it's all small stuff.
  12. Why not set up a small display with your sash and maybe some other things from your youth scouting experience? Be sure and get the OK from the person setting up that event.
  13. What about committee positions? Are they filled?
  14. Open up the arms and welcome father and son to your pack.
  15. Will National revoke our memebership if we don't have council approval to use the 800 number? Just kidding. But I will note the number for future use.
  16. I don't know if its me or scouting.org website but I can hardly ever find what I am looking for there. I do know how to get to the training but as far as looking up specific things it just doesn't work for me. Maybe I'm impatient with the site but....
  17. Bear dad Our troop has mandatory fundraisers that if the scouts/parents choose not to participate they have agreed previously to pay XX.xx amount in lieu of selling/participating for that particular thing. We have 2 mandatory things a year. We achieved this in having a troop policy as to what we expect from them and them from the troop. It is signed by scout and parent and kept on file. It is stated in our policy how much the scout is expected to earn for troop general fund and then after that figure a percentage will be put into scout accout. Keep in mind I am talking Boy Scouts he
  18. Try and take committee trainging ASAP. There is online at scouting.org. Our council has it at University of Scouting. There is also a guide book available at your scout shop if your pack does not have one in its library. Good luck.
  19. Scout accounts at the Cub scout level are a royal pain. You must have a person whose responsibility is to keep track of that(usually treasurer). In my opinion it is not worth the hassle of taking the time to do this at cub level. Usually there are alot more cubs than at the Boy Scout level. You must have the accounts available for parents to look at each meeting and believe me a couple will each time. You must keep other scout accounts private or you'll get "Why does little Billy have $XX.xx more than my son?" + it's none of their business. Also with individual accounts I strongly recomme
  20. Please have another person besides you and your husband on the checking account. Some troops/packs require 2 signatures on a check.
  21. Is there a tracking sheet to go along with this? I have started making one through excell but haven't finished.
