I attended Strictly for Scoutmasters at Philmont a several years ago and had a very wise instructor (also named Barry) that discussed the importance of a vision statement. Sounds good to me. As a Jamboree SM myself, I have the same rule. Easy to spot my scouts and insures they have an appropriate shirt.

Yes,even sampled some of the food. Big improvement over 2005, little bigger on the portions too. I loved the stir fry. Meals will have themes. I have the list at home, but don't remember all the details.

One of the cooking merit badge counslor's for the cooking MB at the 2010 Jamboree will be Wolfgang Puck. There was another famous one too but can't remember the name.

Did one ever think that we as NRA instructor speak extra loud or shout louder is for 2 reasons, 1. We are wearing hearing protection and naturally speak or shout louder. 2. The youth BETTER be wearing hearing protection thus we have to speak or shout louder. Maybe the one claiming the instructor was shouting too loud was not wearing hearing protection. If a safetly violation occurs you better hope the instructor is shouting loud enough to gain attention, it might be your boy that takes the hit if the perpetrator did not hear a command.

A new Advanced Sea Scout Leader training will soon be available called Seabadge Underway. Contrary to what was posted above, The Scoutmaster has several responsibilities, with the primary or chief responsibility as the Scoutmaster handbook states, is establishing an environment that is safe for Scouts both physically and psychologically.

Bob White, You mention that if a troop follows the scouting program, scouts will earn two or three ranks the 1st year. I've never been able to find where this prgram is spelled out. I've only seen that it is "encouraged but should not be pressured...so a boy may work on the requirements at his own speed. Contrary to what was stated above. Venturing Leaders DO have a roundtable. It is called a Venturing Leaders Roundtable. (See page 337 of the Venturing Leaders Manual Pub#34655E.

Since we are talking about Merit Badges here and not rank requirements, I have to point out that what evmori claims in the statement below is NOT correct. I think someone may not be able to distinguish between "staff" and "Contingent Leader" It is clear, that if you aplly for and are not chosen as a contingent leader, then you application can be assigned to the "staff" pool for assignment to a Jambo staff position at Jamboree.

Ahoy Captain, I sat 2 rows in front of you at the international conference and have attended Seabadge myself. Infact I was shocked to see that out of 65 participants in our International Conference, 5 of us that I knew of that had taken Seabadge training. Myself, there was two scouters in the row just in front of you, Pete as you mentioned and another Skipper who had a beard one day and shaved the next. I've come to learn that Sea Scouts is the best kept secret in scouting. But I'm trying to change that by taling about it as much as possible.

Pack 15, We are speaking about being registed in 2 different units. NOT two positions within one unit as you speak about. Being registered in multiple units is perfectly fine. In fact youth can also be registered in multiple units.

Bob White, I do see that on the Cub Scout leader Knot progreess records I looked at, (Cubmaster and Cub Scouter) Again, Tenure applies to a single registration within a unit. Note that is says for example, on the Cub Scouter award progress record, "Complete 2 years as a registered adult leader in CUB SCOUTING in a pack" That would indicate one Tenure. Now, if one is also registered as a Scoutmaster that would be a different Tenure. May I direct your attention to the Tenure requirement on the Boy Scout Leaders Training Record.
